Thank you for talking about a series that I discovered long ago. It was a really cute series and something to my younger self really enjoyed. However if you're looking for new series to check out, I got two series that are quite old but I think make a good impact. The series names are called "The Imperfect Girl" and "Skip Beat". If you have the time, I would highly suggest checking these series out. They are really good and you won't be left disappointed.

I'll admit, looking back on Shugo Chara, I... can see why its a bad story. Honestly I watched this in middle school too and I never quite fully noticed the incest part. Nor the middle schooler and high schooler situation. I was an innocent and sheltered child. _But anyway,_ that doesn't change the fact that I absolutely _adore_ the anime. I know you're talking about the manga but it's still the same story. I love the character designs and the message the story gives. It helped me a lot throughout the horrors of middle school, and rightfully introduced me to the Magical Girl genre. I was bullied a lot and had trouble trying to figure out who to be and what to do, but come to find out Hinamori is in the same boat, I learned that I need to just be myself. Easier said than done, but I survived, didn't I? ALSO _I refuse to believe the same people who made the horror that is DearS, the anime I highly don't recommend for anyone's sanity, also made Shugo Chara._ That just doesn't process with me.

What I learned... The more learn about Japanese the more you realize the name are uncreative. I’m now wondering what Lillie name is in Japanese? Lillie: “What be my name, meaning?”
@TeruteruBozusama4 жыл бұрын
I help out on a confession blog on tumblr sometimes, and because of that has to do some research sometimes. Apparently she's called Lillie in Japan too, but Lillie is probably from Lily, which is ゆり(Yuri) in Japanese which is also slang for lesbian, as some people there thought lesbians were lily people. So it could be just the flower or you can chose to read into it.

This is funny to me since I've gotten more and more into donghua lately, and a lot of the Chinese names are designed to be super poetic and meaningful; especially when it's set in a xianxia/wuxia setting like Mo Dao Zu Shi. The one I can think of off the top of my head is Jiang Yanli, which means "hate/can't bear to part" and ties into her character's story. In contrast I remember finding out when I was little that the Mamotte! Lollipop characters were just named after numbers in Japanese. 😂 Like it was literally Zero, Ichi, Nina, San, Forte, etc. Just an observation! Not a knock against manga/anime. I just thought it was kind of amusing.

Yeah, but is sad we don't ever think about the meaning of the names for the characters here in our media lmao Idk, the only book I read that actually tried to use the meaning of the name was about some angelic figures (their characters served this purprose) and use their literally translation from aramic and other languages: Daniel, the server of God/Rafael, who heals the injuries/Isabel, the God's lamb (she was the needed to unleash the apocalypse in the book by the order of God and she opposed It)/Martínez, the son of war (he was a general)/Jared, the fragile rose (he was a child who was also prince and his family's sign were roses)/etc
@TeruteruBozusama4 жыл бұрын
@@zarinapena5846 many Japanese names in media are based on puns too, look at Gyakuten Saiban/Ace Attorney and the Disastrous Life of Saiki K. for example. Some are good, others bad. Mario is called that because of NoA's landlord at the time, Luigi got his name from Ruiji, meaning "another", and it happened to be the katakana for another Italian name, so it was perfect. Having thought behind the names and what they mean is a lot of fun. Many English (as in from England) stories have punny names too. Having a pair of Scandinavian werewolf twins called Alf (used to be short for adolf, "Noble wolf") and Ylva (female wolf), gives both a hint to the reader and serves a purpose. Timmy means "Honouring God" or "Honoured by God", and aside from the creator of a certain show with underlying motives, most don't have any special character called that "Timmy, chosen by God", although most do not take the name very seriously these days. Sheldon in TBBT means "valley with steep sides" and besides a reference to someone doesn't really mean anything for the character, maybe. Although, like in USA, one can apparently call one's children whatever one want in Japan. So Utau isn't less of a name than Hope or Joy. And despite having rules, here in Norway Stein, literally meaning "stone", is a really common name.

I loved Shugo Chara in middle school. Just like Amu I didn't know who I wanted to be or what I wanted to do. And neither did some of my friends and classmates. So I would create Charas and eggs for them and myself. It didn't resonate as much with them as it did me (cause they didn't watch the anime) but they still appreciated it and felt attached to the little drawings. The idea of these little beings inside your heart guiding you to be who you wanted/were meant to be comforted me. And in a way, the fact that they didn't appear if they weren't needed, helped me. I didn't have one and I didn't see them, so I didn't need them. Yes I know it's a show and they don't actually exist, but look at the Harry Potter fandom crying over not getting their Hogwarts letters. We all want something fantastic and magical in our life. I also own the anime and a random volume of the manga, and I have to agree with you, I can never make it past the first couple episodes. As much as I love it, it just doesn't hold the same magic and feeling when you're older and know the direction you're meant for.

For heaven sake, it's not the end of the world that Amu and Ikuto are 5 years apart I actually ship them because of how they well they interact with each other and they look cute together But seriously everyone in the entire comment is just making a mountain out of a molehill. Do you want me to name you a list of all the anime couple that have a way more different age gap then this? Manga recommendation: •Sakura Hime Kaden Absolutely beautiful artstyle and artwork, entertaining romance (and not cliche), intense battles for a shoujo manga, and suspense since the very beginning! The story even has some lore behind it. Protagonist is a bit typical but some characters are quite interesting! One of the best and most unique older shoujo and magical girl mangas I know. I love the combination of Japanese history and supernatural. Definitely worth trying if you like the genre!

The age gap between Amu and Ikuto got a lot more uncomfortable for me somewhere between when I was a “fresh outta the mentary”middle school kid simping for him and when I became an adult with common sense about grooming practices. (SPOILERS) A 17 year old flirting with an 11 year old (sneaking into her room for the night, hugging her close, teasing her) is something I’d rather not see. She’s out here playing hopscotch at recess while you’re doing calculus and learning quadratic equations my guy 🤦♀️ plus him saying that he’s not going to form a relationship with her until she’s grown feels so groomy. Like your dads friend saying he likes you but he’s not gonna try anything till you’re legal. What’s even worse is (and correct me if I’m wrong, it’s been a while) that at the end Amu tells him she’ll come back to him when she’s older and it just feels like he succeeded. It flipped that whole romance narrative in my head immediately.

The scene I remember the most for this feverdream of an anime/manga (though I'm a huge fan of Rozen Maiden to this day, that series is lit and Peach-Pit are such talented mangakas) is that scene where Tadase confesses to Amu as her Amulet Heart persona, not as Amu herself! That was wild. He was crushing on her possible self as happy-go-lucky atlethic girl?? Though I found that the more they got to know each others the more sides they realised in each others that they liked... Until that scene where Amu like took care of sick Ikuto and instead of going to her friends for help she hid them from them for what?? Like even if she knew they didn't like Ikuto he was very ill so unless they are like assassins who don't care for basic human life why would she hid that from them. But then Tadase found out and was like 100% disillusioned or whatever with Amu... and after that the very creepy pairing of an 12 year old and a 17 year old set sail with a pirate (quite literally) on board!

'golden time' lmao??? This is a weird take especially considering the fact that the whole incest and age gap thing added NOTHING to the show value wise and was just weird. This is exactly why I call it golden time, for me, idk for the rest. A series didn't need a big reason for include anything or take a controversial stand. It was just weird, like you say, but it didn't matter. One could just read it and shrug off the weird or just not read it. So simple.

Fun Fact Peach-Pit also did illustrated Zombie Loan another manga series which has a pretty cool concept and is an interesting read , but Rozen Maiden is great and is probably my favorite thing they have done so highly recommend reading it, DearS is very different from shugo chara and is written for a much older audience. So happy to see you do a vid on this series as i dont see people talk about it much and it was absolutely one of my favorites as a kid and i was in the peak demographic when it was being serialized, but ya...... there are definitely some questionable things that happen in the manga/anime... mainly ikutos age and his sister being in love with him. I agree with you on the message of the manga it really is about growing up and finding yourself, Im still very attached to the characters in the story because i feel like all of them go through different arcs where they grow as people and i related to it alot when i was a kid. Also recommend checking out the manga Sugar Sugar Rune, its a magical girl/witch manga but I dont feel like people talk about it enough at all, it had a pretty interesting story and i still think it holds up pretty well.
