1125 had a rotax engine in it from Austria. That's why it was the best Buell. Eric Buell is way ahead of his time. This motor actually allowed his bike to demonstrate its full potential. Too bad Harley-Davidson CEO at the time who couldn't even ride a motorcycle made the call to close Buell.

Unfortunately it would have had to have HD’s name and notoriety But they put their hands into the works. Eric Buell KNOWS how to build beasts, he built a bike that could win the Daytona 200 but his braking system wouldn’t allow a decent pit stop. If HD put their name in the bike with “Powered by Buell” it may have lasted. The EBR was also a good bike but starting a company from scratch is tough no matter when you try it

Buell was shut down at the beginning of the 2010 cycle - just after they had Officially won the AMA Overall title for 2009. Something HD could not handle - thus Buell had to go. A truly sad story. Buell won AMA running a 1200 in a class of 600's. The rules were bent, so how can you look at that as anything other than an embarrassment? Honda had the RC 51 and Super Hawk, and Suzuki had the TL 1000R, all with better hp and slimmer, not to mention Ducati 996.

@@railroadtrash09 1125cc but - Other bikes besides the 600s were in the class as well, however, due to a lot of the American tracks being shorter and twisty - the 600s were usually the dominant in any event even in mixed racing. The first record the little 900XBR air-cooled took was a Honda 600CBR on a track in Barcelona Spain - its opening introductory press release. Later nominated as the world's Best Handling Bike by a British motorcycle magazine. That's really the only time folks took notice of the bike in general. That's what I ride an EVO powered Harley with somewhat loud aftermarket pipes. It shakes and it makes beautiful music. It stirs my soul. It makes me feel good. It is FUN. Spec sheet numbers mean nothing. It's either fun or it isn't. Of course different people have different ideas about what is fun to them. Buell may have picked up a bunch of power by ditching the Sportster engine, but it lost almost all its charm. If they hadn't done that, maybe they'd still be around. Steven Brown , I agree with you. HD really pi**ed off a lot of people when they axed Buell. Cycle World had a series of articles about it around 2010 and told the truth about how poorly Eric was treated, the low budget Buell was given, etc. Also the HD dealers would do anything to talk you into a Harley over a Buell. But, there were a lot of recalls on Buells which didn't help matters. Curious about yours, supposedly the stator would fry without the mod or replacement, problems with the electronic speedos, and some claim the fuel (in the frame) would bubble under hot riding, curious about any trouble you've had. There's a clean, low mile 1125R near me with the flat panel fairings, steering damper, aftermarket pipes, etc. I could get for about $4,500 . . . it's tempting.

@@captainamerica9353 1. The 2008s didn’t have problems with the stator, the 2009-10 bikes did. Pretty easy to fix, and most have had it done by now 2. The clutch slave on all of them leaked, almost from the factory. Again, most of them have had that fixed. The updated slave is cheap and exceedingly easy to fix 3. The fuel boiling in the frame and low speed surging issues are both fixed with an IDS ECM, which is necessary for an aftermarket exhaust anyways. And you’ll want one, because the 1125 is one of the best sounding bikes out there 4. I’ve never heard of issues with the speedos, but I did have my starter switch quit working for about half an hour after washing the bike once. Not sure what that was about, it hasn’t happened since These bikes are far more reliable than they were made out to be. My 2008 has had zero issues besides the clutch slave leaking, which took like $100 and an hour to fix. Parts aren’t that hard to find either, which is another common trope people love to push If you can still buy that bike, do it. I think the word you were looking for is "ambient". Also, the front rotor is attached to the rim instead of the hub, in order to not put a torsional load on the hub. The underslung exhaust is actually massive and has an active valve that opens a more direct flow path at high rippems. Anybody who buys the bike you present will need to download service documentation and learn how to work on the bike himself. My 2008 1203 cc Buell XB12X Ulysses, which I bought new in late 2007, has 40k miles on it, is still going strong, and is my favorite, even next to my other bike, a 2010 Triumph Speed Triple. Lost a lot of faith in HD. Scrapping Buell was a decision to benefit the executives during the collapse at a price to HD and its investors. Not to mention the American public. HD is only around thanks to the constant support of the tax payers.

I bought one when Buell was going under for 1/2 price of MSRP, thats what they were going for at the Harley dealer. It was a good bike but it had issues. I sold it after 3 months for a profit and bought a Ducati 749, now that was a fun bike.

It was a shame that HD dropped that bike. The new Rotax motor beats that old Sportster motor for a sport bike. That is a nice bike, too bad it has less than 7,500 miles. Why? California DMV rules...

Early Buell models had bad geometry according to Sport Rider magazine! A short wheel base (51-52" ) and 21 degrees of rake, 3.5" of trail contributed to It's "quirky" handling! The lightning long was a lot better model!

1125R had an Austrian Rotax vtwin motor, unlike earlier Buells, not an American motor, much more like a KTM or Aprilla twin hence 150hp, cool pieces of kit

1998: the Dyna Super Glide Sport Harley-Davidson buys a majority of the Buell shares and holds 98%. This year the production of the Twin Cam 88 engine starts with better cooling, more power and double underlying camshafts. Again a new model, the Dyna Super Glide Sport with black engine, double disc brakes and a new raw styling.
@ianfossett4482 Жыл бұрын
I thought the 1125r had Rotax engine that was designed developed and manufactured in Austria . Its not American and certainly not made by Harley Davidson, which probably explains why it was the best bike ever produced by Buell
