I bought my first motorcycle in a long time from a Harley dealer in 2003. I started riding at the age of three. My first new bike was a Buell Blast! After Riding it for 1000 miles. I was ready for something more powerful to just get out of the way of traffic when I needed to. So I traded it in on a 03 9S! Great bike! I had it for about a year and rode it on some track days! I knew it could out perform me!!! Then I did a test ride day on a XB12R Firebolt and had to have one!!! So, I traded in my 03 9s for a late model year 04 XB12R in Red in December of 04! I loved it! I ended up putting the famous Kevin Drum exhaust and technolusion fuel programming! Everyone who heard it on the track or road loved it! I miss it even now!

But that's wrong, LAP did absolutely nothing to build the brand and EBR is no longer in business with all of their assets being liquidated by LAP earlier this month. When my shop became a dealer for EBR last year I went out to the factory to meet with everyone from EBR and LAP I was filled with false promises from LAP, there was supposed to be a plan put forward to build the company and there were supposedly customers already lined up in my area itching to get their hands on the new EBR's. To date we have sold 2... After the first 6 months of seeing absolutely nothing done in the form of advertisement, brand building, or even communication from LAP it became clear that LAP only ever intended to do just enough to keep EBR running and then make a quick flip to Polaris. As more time passed these problems got worse and worse and the bikes I purchased to floor my showroom are sitting and devaluing more and more every single day. This brings us to January of 2017. At this point it has been almost a full year since we took the brand on. Nobody knows what EBR is, where they're made, and we have sold ONE bike at this time and had 2 pre orders of the Black Lightning. The day after Polaris announced that they were closing down Victory in favor of indian I got an email from Mike over at EBR telling us they were ceasing production. In short LAP's plan to make a quick flip to Polaris fell through the floor as soon as Polaris made that announcement, this was confirmed when I spoke on the phone with higher ups at EBR shortly after receiving the email from Mike, I was told they were looking for other investors as LAP was getting ready to pull out and they were in the contract phase three different times in the coming months and all three walked for one reason or another as soon as it came time to sign. It's unbelievably sad and I have nothing but nice things to say about everybody over there at EBR. Erik, Mike, Dan, and the rest of the guys are fantastic people with a genuine passion for what they do and are absolutely the most down to earth people you could ever meet. Liquid Asset Partners? Not so much. Unfortunately this ended with EBR being closed down once more with the exception of parts and warranty support in the form of two employees (100 frames kept by EBR and $4.5 Million in various other parts kept for future support on EBR motorcycles so owners aren't left holding the bag so to speak) and a lot of burned dealers due to LAP actively refusing to fulfill their promises to EBR and the dealer network that was built. I wish Erik and everyone over at EBR great success in their future endeavors. If there's anyone in this world that deserves it it's them.

I met Erik last year when one the motorcycles shops in my area was going to be a EBR dealer and again at the Motorcycle Show in Long Beach CA, he is a very interesting man to listen to, and once you get him going on something technical hold on. Buell motorcycles are unique the ones with a Sportster Engine are cool you hear them coming around the corner and you expect to see a cruiser and then a Sport bike shows. The Firebolt is still my favorite Buell oil in the Swingarm, Fuel in the Frame and the other unique touches. I wish Erik Buell well.

I want to mention a specific Buell you missed, that happens to be one of my favorite bikes of all time; the Buell 1125CR. Similar to the 1125R mentioned in the video, but with a radically different look and feel. They were manufactured only for a very short time in 2009 in INCREDIBLY small numbers, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of them a few years later. It is by far the most fun bike I've ever owned (Coming from a guy with a gen 1&2 Hayabusa, as well as a 2012 zx14) and I STRONGLY recommend anyone that has the chance to check one out to do so.

Great video Yammie! I'm an EBR 1190RX owner and out of the liter bikes I've ridden it's my absolute favorite. I've actually been able to meet and speak with Erik a couple of times and he is just so passionate and genius when it comes to motorcycles but at the same time super humble, always doling the credit for the bikes to his team. unfortunately LAP seems to have had no intention of sticking out the rebuild of EBR after the receivership. The Liquidation auction just took place and the whole company is up for sale piecemeal including all IP... I can't stand to think how Erik feels, and I just don't understand how the 1190RX didn't sell like crazy, every time I'm out on mine I draw stares from all corners, when I'm at meets everyone asks where they can buy one, and the rare occasion I let someone actually ride it they were calling the dealership to pick one up. at 13,999 the RX was a steal. I'm so sad that EBR is done and it makes me so angry that I can't watch an American designed and built machine in MOTOGP or SBK all because Hardly Dumberson sells unreliable fashion accessories at huge markups and buries any American competition as soon as it can. Anyway Yam, if you read all this. Thanks for giving the Legend of Erik Buell some screen time.

Erik Buell is a genius pure and simple. You forgot to mention that Buell died because he was sick of making sportbikes for your average Hardly Ableson rider. One of the reasons the EBR didn't slay the competition was that its Rotax mill was ~25 hp down on the competition. He needed a KTM or Aprillia motor but that wouldn't make sense for them. Sell some motors to EBR so that my friend of 17 years Geoff May & his EBR could go out and beat the pants off of the field the AMA Superbike field.

I liked Buell's philosophy because it was similar to so many great cars of the past (exotic chassis with simple American powertrain) like the Cobra, Pantera, etc so I bought an '03 Firebolt XB9R after learning to ride on a Grom for about 4 months. It was fun to ride and the looks on people's faces when they heard a Harley loping idle come from a sport bike were hilarious. Bought an S-1 Lghtning in 1996- 90 + hp XL engine that revved like mad and was easy to maintain for a long time Sportster nut. It was just plain fun to ride.

Harley should have never let Buell shut down. They should have put more money into the company.

It wasn't a moneymaker. The market is full. Who needs Buell when Japan and Italy and Germany and England make everything anyone could want and more?
