The best part of these vintage receivers and why we buy them is their FM Stereo tuners. Streaming is great, but there’s nothing like good local radio, properly reproduced through an analog tuner tuned with a graceful flywheel, and zeroed in with big meters. When you show us your work, please include the FM section (and if the tuning capacitor survived after power washing 😆). Cheers!

Pffft. AM better. Then again commercials suck.

@@chublez Here in Detroit we still have WJR AM 760, a powerful clear channel station. In my younger days when we only could afford AM radio in the car - and those old Delco’s with a full throated 6”x9” speaker were awesome - I could drive all over the country and, at least after dark, hear such music programs as Night Flight, a 12 midnight to 5 am live adult music show hosted by Jay Roberts, Exploring Music, 12:45-2:00 pm CLASSICAL music hosted by Karl Hass, and Tiger baseball announced by the inimitable Baseball Hall of Fame member Ernie Harwell, all in glorious wide bandwidth AM, and, for a while, AM stereo. Now it is (well, was..) Rush Limbaugh and Dr. Laura 🥺. I used to love AM broadcast. I still have my McIntosh MR66 vacuum tube tuner that has an all-out AM section with 4 bandwidth settings including all out 15k extension. Merry Christmas!

I have head to wash out many a unit when using an air compressor just can't remove all the grime. (hey they have had 30+ years to build up dirt) Just always remember to use a compressor to blow out all the visible water while turning it over and over. Then use a hair dryer to help get rid of the water you can't see. Like under capacitors and tuning cans and keep going for as long as you can. Then let sit for at least a day or 2 before applying power. I also have a big box and UV lamp that produces ozone to first get rid of bad smells that many units sadly pick up from smokers etc.. I contemplated installing Bluetooth to older units, but the nice thing about these is that they are timeless. Once you install tech that gets upgraded every few years, you sort of put them into the same realm as AV receivers.

One tip for everyone!, after power washing, use compressed air to dry everything off, and wipe off all damp surfaces to prevent corrosion!!

Some decades ago Fender recommended removing all the boards from their professional mixers and soaking them in a Simple Green solution for several hours or overnight, rinsing them with distilled water and drying them for a couple of days before reinstalling. It worked!

I don't install bluetooth boards internally any more. They can become out dated. For example, my bluetooth, with the 4.2, standard did not show up on my friend's new phone. Some companies don't bother to make their products backward compatible anymore (it did work with another board with the 5.0 standard). Looking forward to your future videos, thank you.

Power washing electronics is as old as the hills. The trick is to allow lots and lots of time for things to completely dry out. Ya dun good.

people don't seem to realize the PCBs are washed during production anyway - washing them later isn't a big deal. You just need to watch out for components that can hold water, or that originally had a protective cover on them initially when they were washed in production, like beepers and paper speakers.

I have an SX 750 sitting around that has a background hum. I haven't plugged it in for over 5 years, and my wife has asked what I'm going to do with it. I'm looking forward to watching you restoring yours, so I can judge whether or not I want to tackle the job, or trade/sell it. I found your channel when I clicked on a Jag LS swap video, and I stuck around for the HiFi gear.

@@b.powell3480 I replaced it with a late 80s Kenwood integrated amp, and my wife and kid like it better. It's simpler to operate. I'd like to get a nicer pair of studio monitors, so I'm still on the fence about the Pioneer.

For those into the finer points of home computers, they can get just as dirty inside, and there is a KZbin channel by Cary Holzman, showing him power washing several computers, during the repair process.

I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the power/speaker select switch on the SX-750. I own an SX-450 and an SX-434, and am wondering how much i need to be worried about their failing, and if there is anything that I could be doing for preventative maintenance.

People on Audiokarma have added a triac to switch the power on and off. this takes the heavy arc off the switch. Others have 3d printed the flat plastic disk that breaks and rebuilt the switch. If its stiff to operate the grease may have dried out and that in turn can break that plastic part. IMO

I wonder if there is some sort of GPIO on the up2stream mini you can use to auto power on the marantz when content is playing. 5V relay across the power switch. That would be sick.

Actually the correct way to wash that is one I use Dawn dish soap with just the hair little bit of bleach not just a spoonful disassemble anything that would be damaged buy moisture. I usually just power wash with a garden hose.
