My SDiT is 11m/o and we’re starting non pet friendly PA in the next few days so this video was really helpful! We’ve done some pet-friendly PA in small stores but I’m really nervous about taking her into somewhere that’s not as tolerant of dogs making mistakes. She’s going to be attending school with me this September so I’m ready to start putting in lots of work with PA to get her confidence up. :)

Im working on training my german shepherd puppy to be a service dog, we got her and have been working with her since she was 6 weeks old. She's 13 weeks now, potty trained, does knows her basics, and has learned touch indication and to retrieve items I point at if I ask her if I can have that. Shes not too good in more public settings, shes excited, but were working on it. I hope to have her trained up for light mobility assistance and anxiety. I became visually impaired after an accident in the military and now how trouble getting around alone. I bump into people and stuff, trip over steps and curbs. Truly a mess by myself.

I'm getting a puppy to train as a SD prospect in late May and one of their big tasks is going to be crowd control. I can't recall previously seeing any vlogs of SDs/SDiTs doing off leash crowd control, so I really appreciate this video!! Are you training Sirius to do automatic blocks (aka blocking when someone gets too close without you having to give him a signal) and if so, do you have any advice? Also, do you have any advice for teaching a dog to ignore drive by petting (love that term btw!)? I'm getting a lab and I'm a bit worried we might have trouble with ignoring drive by petting since labs are notoriously social. My plan is to redirect with a leave it/focus (command for making eye contact with me) but I always love hearing how other people approach training. By the way, Sirius looks great, especially for an 8 month old SDiT. His focus and obedience both seem wonderful!! Also, I love the color scheme of his gear-- it's so pretty and very eye catching!!

This was a super informative video Hunter. Thanks so much for making it. Is Aspen still in training as well? What kind of dog is she? She’s really pretty. Why did Mia try to grab a series of tail? That’s great that he ignored the treats while he was helping you with your medical episode.

Yes Aspyn Is in training! She is a 9 month old golden retriever @aspyn.servicegolden on Instagram. We do tail grabs because people in real life and crowded situation for some reason go to grab tails in drive by petting. !

They actually sell some service dog or working dog supplies at 5 below. Nothing that says "service animal" or "service dog" on it but it does work really well if you have a service dog that you are taking outside or to school or everywhere. Like the pop bowls, or treat bags or leashes although the leashes from 5 below and the collars are kind of not very well made. I personally only buy supplies that I can use. I do have a dog at the moment that isn't a service dog but I'll be getting a service dog very soon.

Loving your channel! ❤️ My SD is a yellow lab and is 2 1/2. He’s a program dog, I got him last June at the age of 1 1/2. He actually walks on my right side. Also when getting out of the car he walks away a couple steps and then stands in front of me so I can put his handle up (mobility harness) and then he goes into a side (goes on my right).

Omg when someone grabbed the dogs tail and he jumped 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Hes a brilliant dog though, I hope mine can be as well trained in the future :) I literally gave a chihuahua as a service dog and I'm currently working on his walking and general obedience but he is rask trained and goes out 'to work several days a week and does brilliantly. I recently got a new mental health nurse who is very breathing oriented, which annoys me cuz my last nurse was trying to convince my Dr to out me on more appropriate meds and this one's like 'nah forget meds, breathing exercises fix everything ' lol But one day she started breathing fast and heavy, trying to show how it raises your heart rate and my tiny little dog ran across the room (he was working off-leash ) and started jumping up at her the way he does to tell me I need to take time to calm myself down before it turns to a full blown panic attack or autistic meltdown 🤣 He does have some more specific tasks but my nurse was super impressed even with that basic one lol Hes not great at walking nicely though so although he just turned 2 our main focus at the moment is to learn a proper heel 🤣 I realise we're doing things a bit backwards but I can't go back in time (if I could I'd start with a much bigger dog, probably a lab) so I'm just glad he's been so helpful since he learnt his tasks ^_^

@debbiesmith22072 жыл бұрын
Hello, not sure how the experts do it. But my 11-week-old golden retriever puppy goes on command because every time I've seen him go pee ( which is almost everytime he has gone) I say go pee good boy and a happy excited voice. Also go poop good boy good poop yada yada. To my surprise he does start sniffing around immediately if I say go pee or go poop.and he goes. Sometimes I say go poop and he tries even though he doesn't really have to, LOL

@siriusly.working58663 жыл бұрын
Start in low distraction areas like your house and than move to the backyard, around the neighborhood, the park, and so on!
@danielletheriaque11623 жыл бұрын
This requires a lot of patience, but this worked for me and my dog. I recommend doing this on regular walks, and then when that is down really well doing this in a store. Bring your dog on a walk. If they break heel and start to walk ahead stop. Don't pull. Just hold you ground. Then once the dog realizes you aren't moving bring them back into a heel position. Once you have their focus again start walking . Do this every single time. Eventually they realize that staying in a heel is actually faster than walking ahead and the behavior goes away.

My puppy is 8 months, a sdit. She has issues with reactivity so we have never done pa, her heel is always trashy and I’ve tried most things like prongs, head collars , treats etc. would anyone think an e collar would help?

an e collar will only help if your dog already knows the heel command. if your dog doesnt know the behaviour youre asking, and you use an e collar you'll just make your dog frustrated and stressed. theres a ton of heelwork e collar videos on yt made by professional trainers & behaviourists that could maybe help!
@isumr74803 жыл бұрын
maybe work on engagement and consistently getting the heel. with my lab sdit he is still working on leash pressure but does amazing with a prong and we worked on literally just taking like 3 heeled steps, stopping and rewarding over and over and slowly increasing the amount of steps. those tools will only be helpful if they understand the behavior you want. for reactivity its like watching a pot boil over, you have to catch it before it happens if possible and correct on the occasion that you dont. if shes reactive to dogs or people go to an area you know with only a few distractions, for my sdit he isnt super reactive but he loves other dogs so to stop him getting distracted we did this and i would reward when dogs or kids went by, letting him glance but not get to that overexcited point. maybe this helps? :)

what’s on his ears ?
@SR-fu7ty2 жыл бұрын
The stuff on his ears is a self-adhesive wrap. His ears have been cropped according to breed standards, and after that you have to train them to stand upright. You do that by using something ridgid (i have seen/heard of people using tongue depressers or tampons for this) and then wrapping the self-adhesive bandages around them.
