The exact function of the muzzle attachments in Rainbow Six Siege has been a source of speculation over the last 3 years with many community members attempting to find out how these devices work and what their individual strengths are. The problem is that recoil is randomised in R6 and that has made it basically impossible to understand the exact stat modifiers of each attachment. But now, Ubisoft has finally revealed how each attachment works, allowing us a much better insight into which attachment will work best on which gun. Let's go and have a closer look!

[my notes from this] Suppressor: No smoke trails. No white threat indicators. -15% damage. Good for headshot players. Good for roamers. Flash hider: -37.5% first shot recoil. -30% centering time. 5% smaller recoil diamond. Reduced muzzle flash. Good middle ground between muzzle break & compensator; for guns with strong 1st shot recoil & unfavorable horizontal recoil. Good for bursters. Compensator: 17.75% smaller recoil diamond. Good for fast firing weapons with lots of horizontal recoil. Good for sprayers. Muzzle break: -45% first shot recoil. -45% centering time. Excellent for semi-auto weapons. Decent for bursters. Ok Ik this video was about a year but I finally understand what barrel attachments do now since watching this. To top it all off, muzzle break is good for slow firing weapons and to center you’re shots for the body (this apply’s to high damage weapons). Compensator is good for spraying, high rate of fire weapons, and also if ur missing ur shots or flinch easily because of the high fire rate (easier to explain compensator is good for spraying and flinch accuracy). Flash hider is good for peak advantage therefore making it good for players to react quickly for spawn peeks and window peeking (doesn’t matter which gun to put it for if u going for peek advantage)

My opinion: Suppressor Best for headshot-sneaky player Flash hider Best for burst A.K.A weapons that deal great damage and has small ammo capacity (my opinion) Compesator Great for spray gun and better for weapons that has many ammo capacity (alda, scorpion evo, etc.) Muzzle break Great for semi-auto A.K.A single firing shot weapons (DMR and pistols) Extended barrel For Pros that want to spawn peek, holding angle site that has long hallway and weapon that may have less recoil(my opinion for pro)

i did the math myself for only vertical recoil. Muzzle break is a go to cohice for semi-automatic guns. Flash Hider is for short burst up to 4 shots. at 4th shot flash hider and compensator will be same. Compensator is great after 4th shot. Before picking any of them be aware for some guns have horizontal recoil so compensator might be better for them.

single fire weapons: Muzzle break full auto weapons: compensator use flash hider if the weapon cant take a compensator suppresor is for fun and trolling long barrel if youre a dirty spawn peaker. but i would still recommend a compensator. compensator is the over-all better attachment for most guns, since you never really know whats gonna happen, its really just is gonna help you in most situations.

A small clarification to recoil centering: the recoil will drop vertically to the lowest point during the burst/spray, so if you never have your gun dip below the initial firing point, then you should have no or minimal (the game keeps the center point moving down with your aim until the next bullet fired) dip. Horizontally, it's a bit more complicated, if you control only vertical recoil, and make no horizontal movement besides that of the recoil itself, it will center back to the initial horizontal firing point at the appropriate vertical position. If you move your aim side to side during a spray/burst, it will set your new horizontal point wherever the reticule itself last was when you stopped adding your own horizontal movement and will center based on that.

Huh. So the in-game recoil sheets are still not accurate? Because if I look at Buck's C8 for instance, vertical spread with the Muzzle Break is also reduced for the 3rd and later shots, which shouldn't be the case according to this info. Or did I get something wrong? In addition, the Compensator doesn't show any reduction in vertical spread, when in truth it should shrink the diamond in all directions? (3rd shot spread height on the graph without attachments: about 1.8 blocks; with Compensator: about 1.8 blocks; with Muzzle Break: about 1.2 blocks) EDIT: Okay, I ran a short test and yes, the sheets are lying. Sometimes they lie really hard (like on Hibana's Type-89).

I used to run Muzzle Break, but since I full-auto a lot I switched every weapon capable of auto firing (including C8) to Compensator, or Flash Hider where there is no Comp available. Haven't tried all weapons yet, and it depends on your play style / preference.

After a longer conversation on reddit I feel like something is generally wrong here. On some weapons, attachments just flat out don't do what they're supposed to do, or do it worse than an attachment which isn't supposed to do that job. If you really want to find the best attachments for all weapons, I guess there's no way around trying them out one by one and deciding for yourself... I think I'm switching to mainly Flash Hider until I know what the hell is going on.

I did some tests once and actually found a lot of the patterns to be quite accurate. You're right though, there are some mistakes sometimes. As for the muzzle brake affecting later shots, I would say that could be a knock on effect. The recoil stacks from bullet to bullet, so if the second impact is moved a lot, then the displacement for each following shot is stacked op top of that. Imo, this would explain why even just a first shot benefit still makes following shots better. Hope I managed to explain that ok

Just saying that "long bursts" are bad and probably mean you are doing it wrong is the silliest thing ever. Tracing running targets while holding down the trigger, suppressing corners/angles/ walls, and pre-firing early are all perfect examples of why people would use it, on top of the fact it just simply makes the recoil easier in general to manage.

Is in-menu recoil/spread graphics an accurate representation? Because muzzle break on Hibana's rifle seems little op on that chart.

Most of them are. I tested them once for a video a while ago and they checked out. BUT! I think there are some individual ones that could be inaccurate.

After testing it out myself, i can confirm that using muzzle break on Hibana's AR is much more manageable in vert. & hori. Recoil... Thus making it easier to handle Edit : i also put muzzle break on both Buck's C8 & BB's MK17... They're now both very easy to control and im not even having any trouble dealing with its horizontal kick

mk17 with vert.grip makes it a headshot machine, had to be, cause dps is second worst for ars, but i still prefer angled grip in every gun, cause the aim down sights reduction is a life saver

I’m sure most people don’t know this, but almost every gun has Select Fire, which is really nice because I run Flash Hider on every gun I can because typically it takes 3-4 bullets at close range to kill (chest area, this is excluding headshots) 5-6 bullets at mid range and then 7-9 bullets at long range if you have a high damage weapon, but 9-10 bullets at long range. I would suggest stop using compensators because the fact by the time you used your entire mag, the enemy was killed probably a quarter into the magazine

Great video, but the philosophy of each "explained" attachment has been something I've followed since the beginning of the game. Almost like I instinctively knew what each attachment did. Glad this helps confirm my attachment choices for each weapon. Thank you!

I'm glad to see my suspicion confirmed, I have been a avid supporter of the compensator for a while now (and they all said I was mad!), I am by no means a very good player so obviously I don't know much of anything about anything, but I have always preferred minimising the randomness (especially horizontal) because I honestly don't feel like the recoil pattern is all that hard to control on must guns, (espcially not if you've played your share of CS:GO) with maybe the exception of the SMG-11, because hot damn, that climb is crazy. obviously some guns already have a pretty small diamond, in which case muzzle break seems like the better option. I can't help but feel like I am going to use flash hiders a lot less though, I am very much and either/or kinda guy. Awesome work, as always!

What I always thought about the attachments is that: -Muzzle break helps with centering and first shot recoil significantly -Flash hider lowers the flash, decreased first shot recoil significantly, small recoil reduction of few shots more -Compensator lowers the side to side recoil, best for everything -Suppressor changes fire flash into smoke, lowers the sound and damage. -Extended barrel only is for Frost's gun, since it's can't take any better attachments. Now I see I have not been really wrong. I never realized that the muzzle break also changes the fire flash, but I guess it's logical after all. I might just change compensators into flash hiders on Twitch's Famas and Buck's M4.

The compensator and laser sight on Maestro’s LMG is great because the weapon’s diamond reduces in size the longer you shoot when hip firing.
