So I get the take a lane concept, but how about when the bike lane is perfectly wide for cyclists, yet they ride three in tandem and spill out into the driver’s lane. That is not only “cyclist entitlement “, but super dangerous. Help!

The road is there for everyone to use like the air we all breath. When the opportunity come up, pass them safely on the left.
@joeblow8206Күн бұрын
If you listened one of the laws allows them to use the full lane if they're going the speed limit. If so they are allowed to use the full lane and no one is allowed to pass them since they are doing the speed limit. Let's see you ride the white line riding 45mph and let cars pass. Bet you can't do it. Some of these bikes with the right rider go 25-45mph easily. And cost more than your car. Set your alarm clock earlier.....this is the real problem

Glad people are finding out about this, but bicyclists need to start observing other traffic laws. They want all the benefits of being a pedestrian and a vehicle but none of the drawbacks of either
@Dave-my1weКүн бұрын
I agree that ALL people engaged in transport should observe the LAW. Folks who ride bikes should. Folks who walk should. And, gasp…. Even folks who drive cars and trucks should. But, we all know that every single automobile driver is perfect - every one of them. They never run stop lights, they always come to a FULL stop at stop signs, they never speed, they never, ever, kill pedestrians in cross walks or sidewalks, they always signal their turns or lane changes, they NEVER drive distracted or on substances. Nope. Drivers are perfect…. Every single one of them. But, since we know that isn’t true, it Seems that automobile drivers want all of the benefits of driving but none of the drawbacks.

"Take" the lane isn't even the correct way to describe it. You're USING the lane, just like anyone else. Just using the lane. You're not "taking" anything. Makes it sound like the lane disappears. Remember, the folks behind you have brakes and steering wheels. If they don't have the skill to figure out how to get around a simple bicycle, there's a good chance they wouldn't have made it home anyway.

So, they can take a full lane and then go 20 miles under the speed limit? Then they can blow stop signs, lights... Got it! I don't understand at all why people hate you...

To be fair, there are many vehicle drivers who go 20 miles under the speed limit and who blow stop signs & lights as well...

Next tip - What are the rules of the road for STOP signs & red lights for cyclists?
@Dave-my1weКүн бұрын
They can be legally treated as yield signs by the cyclist under Colorado law. Google “Idaho stop, Colorado” and you’ll have your answer.

A cyclist may proceed past a stop sign if it safe. Stopping is not required.

@RandyVictory420 from CODOT Safety Stop Pamphlet - A person on a bicycle or low-speed conveyance may - proceed straight or turn right on a red light, only after coming to a complete stop, yielding to crossing pedestrians and immediate oncoming traffic.

Do bicyclists pay road use taxes?

Rebecca asked two questions: 1. Is this legal? and 2. What should she do if she sees this again? I think you answered the first question…..but maybe I missed it…..what was the answer to question 2? This is very important as it addresses the recommended response and behaviour of the driver? I cycle recreationally and for commuting as well. I am a driver of a car as well and I really think as a driver I would like emphasis on the answer to question 2…….. thank you
@Garrick42Күн бұрын
The answer to #2 is simple. Follow the rider(s) at a safe distance until it's safe to pass, then pass with at least 3 feet of separation between the side of your vehicle and the side of the rider. And did you know... Colorado law permits you to pass a slower-moving bicyclist over a solid yellow centerline as long as you can see far enough ahead to do it safely. See Colorado Revised Statute 42-4-1005.

How about licenses on bicycles? Then there's an identifiable consequence for both drivers and cyclists. We have a huge issue with impolite, entitled and even reckless cycling behavior in the foothills. Take a lane doesnt.mean the cyclist is always right ...
@Bigfoot2025Күн бұрын
Bicycles should be required to have license plates and be taxed. This would allow the reporting of bad behavior and pay for the upkeep of bike lanes. This would be in keeping with the Democrats philosophy of- Colorado only for the rich and well connected! Nobody should ride for free.
