In Barbados we call that sorrel, we also have another type of hibiscus that we pick the flower itself and make a drink.

Question: I am in eastern NC zone 7B and have been gardening a 40 by 40 spot of my backyard for 8 years, It seems the past 3 years our summers are much wetter than they have been before which makes it hard to get into the garden during some of the hottest months, this heat with the wks of rain is a recipe for weed disaster and I suppose my question is how do you suggest that someone might most effectively take back control of their garden and Tackle an area full of large overgrown weeds. Love the show I look forward to your response
@gardeningwithhoss4 жыл бұрын
The tarp and till technique is the best we've found for lowering that weed seed bank.

I am having trouble removing seedlings from my 24 cell seed starting tray. Only about half the soil comes out when I try to transplant the seedlings. Most of the time I can still get the transplant to grow, but not always. I think the 24 cell trays have larger compartments. Should I just let the seedlings get bigger by waiting longer to transplant? Any ideas on how to get a better root ball out of these cells would be appreciated. Perry Hubbard
@gardeningwithhoss4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you're trying to transplant them before they're ready. The ability to pull them from the cells easily is the sign that they are ready.

At 40:28 you don’t give the name of the fertilizer. What kind is it?
That was 10 biscuits worth of commercials on this video. Also when should I plant elephant garlic in zone 9b? The instructions y'all sent don't even talk about my zone. But that thing is huge. I hope I can grow some that big.

Plant in late November.

Question: This is the first year that I have grown everything from seeds. The bug pressure has been tremendously lower than buying small plants from stores. From your experience and knowledge, do plants from the nursery and stores bring pests into the garden?
@gardeningwithhoss4 жыл бұрын
Not always, but they certainly can.

Do you have to transplant onions right now in Zone 7b or can I plant the bulbs right now?
@gardeningwithhoss4 жыл бұрын
You'll probably want to wait until early next year to plant onions in 7b -- assuming that your winter temps do get below 20.

Hey Fellas , wanting to plant some tillage radishes in a new plot , I'm in zone 9A in Texas. When do you think I should get the seeds in the ground ? How long should I leave them in the ground before chopping them down and tilling them in ? Thanks in advance for any advice.
@gardeningwithhoss4 жыл бұрын
Aim for late October. Let them go until you start seeing them go to seed. Then till them into the soil.

Depends on the seed company. We are always bringing in new seeds. Just make sure your seed company posts the germ date and germ rate on the packets.

Today is September 14, 2022. I see that some of the comments are already two years old. I also live in zone 8b. My point being it would be most helpful if you would just state the date the program aired. or ones in the future air. Right now all I can figure is ya'll were talking about planting fall crops at some time or other.
@gardeningwithhoss2 жыл бұрын
We did make this change a year ago adding a recording date. Some of our older video's do not have it and we are slowly adding them.

Can you grow in clay soil?
@gardeningwithhoss4 жыл бұрын
Sure!
@oklahomachris62984 жыл бұрын
Hoss Tools can you elaborate? Like what it takes to grow in clay soil?
@gardeningwithhoss4 жыл бұрын
It takes less fertilizer because clay soils retain nutrients better than sandy soils. It also requires less water because clay soils hold water better than sandy soils.

Because the goal is to grow an onion plant than we'll then pull and transplant.
