What Family Secret Was Finally Spilled?

My dad had an affair with our maid/ nanny and I didn’t find out until my late 20’s. I loved that woman like a second mom. She was so kind, playful and treated me like I was the center of her universe. She pretty much raised me since both my parents worked so much. My parents have always been amazing but they had very long work hours so the nanny/ maid was the one who would help me with homework and cook my favorite meals and play with me. Until one day she was gone when I was around 9. No explanation or goodbye. I never understood why she left so suddenly. Not even a week later we had someone else take her place. I cried so much when I realized she wasn’t coming back. I was depressed for almost 2 years after she left and no one would tell me why. I always asked about her and never got a straight answer. I literally kept asking about her every time I would visit my parents until my late 20s. That’s when my mom finally told me about my dad’s affair. My mom never planned on telling me about it because she didn’t want it to affect my relationship with my dad or change how I viewed him. But due to my persistence asking about that woman, my mom finally thought maybe it was time to explain what happened. Up until that point I thought my dad was THE perfect human specimen BUT I was always very critical of my mom. At that moment I saw everything under a new light. So much made sense. And yes… My mom was right. It did affect the way I saw my dad but it didn’t affect my relationship with him. He was always a good dad nonetheless. I did however built a new level of respect for my mom. The fact that She held unto that secret for years to not influence her kid negatively towards dad, is a level of maturity I don’t think I will ever have.

I sort of have one... My relatives always used to tell me I look like my aunt. (Don't know, never met her and only ever saw one photo.) Every time I asked how she died, they told me a different story. I have no idea which one, if any, is true. My dad is probably the last one alive who knows; but he's a liar.

Funny thing about the last story. My mum had me at 19, dad was engaged but didn’t want to ruin that with me so mum and dad went their separate ways (agreeing it was for the best) and I’ve lived without a father for 17 years until that age when mum told me that I wasn’t a part of artificial insemination (her original story) and that I have 3 half-brothers and 4 half-sisters (if I remember correctly) and mum is pregnant now with another child due in may 2024. I’m 18 now, that kid,s gonna grow up so confused. Oh I forgot to mention, dad lives in another suburb in my small city of 250 000 people so I’ve probably seen him just don’t remember.

My youngest was born on September 16th. Both of my kids were born in Pa, but we moved to Va when they were two and six. Pa cutoff is September 1 and Va is September 30. Both kids are homeschooled anyway, but the youngest was able to start kindergarten at not quite five. Now we live in Pa again lol

I took a DNA test. My great grandfather supposedly had 2 blonde, blue eyed parents. He was born in cuba with brown hair, eyes and skin. The DNA test confirmed a family rumor that my great great gma cheated on her abusive husband with a Cuban slave. My great gpa was the result. Turns out that we're not German at all! We're Cuban! That side of my family has issues with racism. My grandpa likely knew, but hid it. It really shook up everyone's world view! Lol

I found out five things: 1) My dad got cheated on before he met my mom. If the former didn’t happen, my brother and I (and through that, my brother’s children) wouldn’t exist. 2) My dad’s biological father was murdered back in the 1970s. My biological grandfather was an abusive alcoholic who beat my dad and his siblings over practically everything. 3) My mom was raped by a previous boyfriend before she met my dad. 4) That I may not be the only member of my family with ASD. Sounds like one of my maternal grandaunts may have had it but never got any assistance with it (she was born before WW2, do such programs practically didn’t exist, and their household was dirt poor regardless). My brother may have ASD as well. 5) I am descended from 2 different historical figures, namely artist Milton Avery (who I share a partial resemblance to) and the philosopher Petrarch.

somehow it took me until like 12 to find out my great-uncle was adopted. should've at least occurred to me based on the fact he's like 20 years younger and lives overseas. I also missed the part where my half-auntie exists and has a few siblings that no one talks to anymore. Then again I have a very large and complex tree so it makes sense I missed some parts. Not like they kept it from me actively I think that's because only my mother and uncle link me to that corner. But IDK

Found out when I was around 10-11 that my mom and uncle where adopted and while I didn’t make a big deal about it when I did find out I did ask my brother and 2 cousins about it and they where shocked I didn’t know and called me stupid... I’m 24 now and for years my mom has been trying to find a genetic test that wouldn’t give her names just percentages of what ethnicity she was ,due to her wanting nothing to do with them if it turns out they’ve been trying to re connect and recently she did and well get the results back in a couple weeks a bit sad she won’t try to find them but it’s ultimately her call and made it clear that she doesn’t want me or my bro looking either and for anyone who says she may be hiding something me and my bro are so obviously my dads kids me especially I’m practically a younger clone of my dad so no worries there thank god

Oof, 15 hits a little cause I know a kid in essentially that situation, except his mother kept her first and third child, the middle was right before she was goin to be shipped off to prison so her aunt and uncle took the kid in and adopted him as their own Though he has a much better life than his two siblings so I’m worried they might grow to resent their brother with them living in a crowded trailer with their mom and stepdad drinking and breaking up and honking back together constantly while the middle one is in a loving home with a big yard, stable parents, and lots of toys

Lock and key is good, but gun control doesn't work. Teaching respect and responsibility is far more effective. Been around them since I was 6 with no issues because I was educated on them
