The video is a combination of the late 1960s song by Zager & Evans with scenes from Fritz Lang's 1927 early science fiction film entitled "Metropolis". The film is based on a 1925 expressive science fiction book, which is very speculative about the replacement of humanity with humanoid robots. The central character is a kind and religious woman who ran worker's charities in a future capitalistic society where there were the "heads" and the "workers". The entire silent film was produced at a great cost during the Weimar Republic period of Germany. The combination of music and silent film is very powerful, with both covering "unintended consequences". To me, it demonstrates that our humanity is precious and must not be discarded for the false safety of authoritarianism of any variety.

yes. it you think that this music video/song freaked you out- try watching the classic film. omg. it has only been avalable in its entirety for about 10-15 years. it was previously cut to hell by the censors, and made it un-understandable. it is a masterpiece, especially for its time. very scary and very prophetic.

I heard that Zager performed with 4 different groups at Woodstock and was considered one of the great guitarists. He has for years had a quality guitar manufacturing business in Tennessee. All the inspiration of the youth of the 60's evidently was for naught -- just look at the world run by the psychopaths who over-powered and killed goodness.

I'll never forget my cool Elementary teacher, Ms. Kostoniak, a Woodstock survivor and coolest teacher ever! She had the class memorize and write an essay on what we thought the song meant, and then another about how we thought it would really be in those years in real life in our opinion. So fast forward and I'm teaching at a local vocational college and met the owners at the time and one was the guy who actually wrote the lyrics to this song, B.A. (forgot his last name), anyway I was in school in New York with Ms. Kostoniak, and in Wichita falls, Texas when I met BA, smaller World then we think...(I'm 65)
