@@davonheria739 the college is pretty good I remember living in quite fondly. Durham uni as a whole is plagued with the issue of bringing in a load of posh southerners to a working class area. There's a lot of dickhead Oxbridge rejects and I'm told the support for mental health etc is pretty poor. I like the city though.

Just got allocated to St. Aidan's! Opinions on that college?
@LifeofM5 жыл бұрын
Congratulations - Aidan's is awesome! You'll have a bit of a hill to climb up from town which people will probably keep reminding you of aha, but it's got an awesome view and a friendly atmosphere + close to science/business lectures :)

Hi there! Love it! But didn't quite catch what course are you doing and which college would you recommend for Marketing Management course?

Hi Christina! I studied English Literature at Trevelyan college :) Durham colleges work a bit differently in that they don't specialise in subjects - each college has a range of subjects in it, which I loved as it meant I made friends with lots of different people! When choosing your college preferences, I'd consider 1) location (though Durham is small so everywhere will be walking distance for lectures etc) 2) whether you prefer a larger or smaller college - there is a range of sizes 3) if you'd prefer catered or self-catered. I didn't end up being allocated to my college of choice, but I absolutely adored where I ended up anyway, so don't fret x

hi, great video! Just referring back to the planner advice, does Durham uni supply you with a planner (my friends at other universities received one from their unis) or do I need to get my own before I arrive?
@LifeofM7 жыл бұрын
+Saffron Higgins Thanks Saffron! You don't get given one by the uni. However, I just went to the university Waterstones in town and got one from there - they have some really cute ones!! You could probs find a cheaper one from somewhere else too though :) x

Hey so I’ve got an offer from Durham but there’s just a few things on my mind... is there really bad classism?? And also is there a lot of sexual pressure... this is just because I’ve seen articles about sexual assault in durham.
@LifeofM5 жыл бұрын
Hey! Sorry for the late reply x I think Durham, like any place, has good and bad things to it, but personally I loved my time here and am staying in Durham now that I've graduated. I think it's fair to say there's a 'town and gown' divide (students vs locals) here sadly, but I took that as a chance to break that stereotype and have lots of amazing friends who live here. :) In terms of sexual pressure, I wouldn't say that from my experience it's any worse or better than most other universities. Overall the welfare at colleges and on uni level is great with lots of support - people's boundaries vary, but as long as you know what you feel comfortable with and stick to that, I've found people to be respectful of that. Best of luck wherever you end up going! x

Hey!! Great video!! I am starting uni at Durham in a couple of weeks, but I'm not sure what I should wear for matriculation. What do girls usually wear? Thanks :)
@LifeofM7 жыл бұрын
Hey - congrats!! Usually just something formal, black&white is always a good bet, whether a skirt and top or a dress, but some people had a colourful top too last year, so it's pretty chill :)

Luuu_15 CM Hi! Thanks for asking my question😂
@luuu_15cm557 жыл бұрын
Gulderen Oz No worries😂 I'm pretty sure at this point everyone is freaking out about the same things😂 Also, are formals very formal? (If that makes sense) We don't need to wear gowns for them in my college, but I feel like I don't have enough fancy clothes to wear for each formal😅 One last thing, I'm not very much into drinking or partying, and I'm kind of scared that I will not make friends or I will be judged because of it. Any advice? Thank you soooo much and sorry for asking so many questions😅
@guldy34477 жыл бұрын
Luuu_15 CM I'm the EXACT same about drinking and partying. To make matters worse I'm coming from abroad😢😣😣. And idek if my college does the gown thing 😞
@luuu_15cm557 жыл бұрын
Gulderen Oz I'm coming from abroad too!!! Your college may have updated a freshers handbook somewhere (St. Cuthbert's Society uploaded it on Facebook) which should specify if gowns are needed or not. If you're in Castle you'll definitely need one but I don't know about the rest😅 Which college are you in??
