If you have gastritis and GERD/acid reflux, then avoiding caffeine is super important. At least until the stomach and adjoining areas are healed. Caffeine may also weaken or make the LPS inactive and items can travel up from the stomach. Again, acid-related issues. It wouldn't hurt to cut out all items and then reintroduce to see what the culprits are.@@jensandersen7011

Lactose free milk works for me. I spent several years using goats milk before the lactose free was available. Gluten free bread used to be a real problem, but not these days. You can even have a pizza - gluten free base and buffalo mozzarella - but make sure it is buffalo not cows. I find sheep's and goat's cheese are also ok, but they don't really melt very well for cooked items.

I just experienced an IBS flare up during my trip to Mexico. On my first dinner, had a Cantarito, is a cocktail drink made usually with Mezcal, but this drink was made with Tequila. Had a Rib Eye stake, this cut had a lot of fat in it, not impressed. Not thinking about the consequences, added spicy salsas and took at a bite of a hot pepper. That night sleep pretty well, but the next morning I spend my entire day literally in the bathroom! My IBS was out of control, had to see a local Gastro who prescribed medication and that was the only way that I was able to feel much better. From the list of things not to consume, I definitely need to stay away from spicy food, greasy food, and caffeine.

Low FODMAP was a game changer for me. I always knew fatty foods set off my stomach but cutting out certain veggies and fruit - wow! Like stone fruit or watermelon - cauliflower too. Some foods make me gassy (beans) where as others (watermelon) will liquify my bowel contents and make me call in sick to work. The list you provide for Low FODMAP fruits and veg is pretty short so I'd recommend people look into it. I think the biggest problem is compliance. You have to commit. For me I've been pretty good with my diet because the pain and suffering isn't worth it. Also get your iron, magnesium, zinc and B vitamins checked. Low iron can cause all kinds of digestion problems. Lesser known symptom and nutrient deficiencies are common in people with gut issues.

Folks, be sure to rule out a persistent illness from campylobacter poisoning caused by once eating undercooked poultry. I used to think I had IBS until I saw a specialist who gave me antibiotics as an initial treatment (cipro I believe). While it took a number of months to fully recover after years of being sick, those antibiotics did the job. It was not IBS after all and I've been about 98 percent well ever since. And I was very ill for a long time before the antibiotics. Campylobacter poisoning is an extremely common illness I read.

I had a lot of relief from the low FODMAPs diet and it was shocking to have normal stools again 2 weeks in. It is recommended to slowly add back most foods to see what your triggers are and with most of the foods I have reintroduced I feel the IBS flaring up again so I'm going back to the low FODMAPs. It's really hard the first few weeks, but if you find relief you will get used to it so I highly recommend giving it a try!

Not to be gross lol Also I did not take any medicine ever !! I eat baked fish 5 times a week, and yams If I eat dairy I always every single time I take lactaid I drink a liter sometimes a tad more of Evian water I drink coffee morning and afternoon I use Evian Now I eat great most of the week but last night I had spicy chicken wings 4 and a chocolate croissant lol a year ago I would have been in pain and running to the bathroom nope … fine Eat healthy !!! I’m surprised there aren’t thousands of IBS specialists, since IBS is so prevalent t in the U.S. that one of my doctors said it should be called ABS, for America Bowel Syndrome! Many of the foods you mentioned as good can sometimes bother my gut; but, it’s possible that I’m in a flare when it happens. My last horrible episode was just 3 weeks ago and lasted for almost two weeks. It happened after I shoveled a bunch of delicious, plump, moist dried apricots down my throat while preparing a too-late dinner. When I bought the apricots, I checked to make sure that they had no added sugar, which is oddly rather common with dried fruit. But in my haste to check for sugar, I overlooked what I believe was the culprit…that sulphur dioxide used as a preservative in most pre-packaged dried fruit. It was awful, and I have an appointment to see a gastroenterologist the day after tomorrow. I also have a history of chronic, low-grade gastritis, GERD, and several instances of hospitalization because is severe pancreatitis, so my gut problems are much more than IBS. I am considering a FODMAP diet, and I also need to get off of the PPI I take for the GERD, and the Gabapentin I take for nerve damage from low back surgery 20 years ago. Both of those drugs can cause severe gut issues. Thank you for this video. I am subscribing.

This has never been part of a doctor visit for me, so thank you. Salads, nuts and beans are the foods I could eat every day without problems. After going strictly gluten-free, my lifelong dairy intolerance (along with eczema and psoriasis symptoms) quickly went away. I still stick to cheese and yoghurt for dairy. I prefer cheeses lower in lactose, so I may be lactose-intolerant but undiagnosed. I find my IBS flares up a lot with intense and prolonged stress like financial or interpersonal issues, performance anxiety or a big evaluation. I drank lightly but fairly regularly in my early 20’s at a time when symptoms were horrendous but do not drink at all since my 40’s, never smoked and avoid processed foods. I do not diet or watch my weight. In my youth I dieted to the point of disordered eating. Starving to alleviate symptoms was the gateway to starvation for weight loss and the positive feedback that comes with a smaller body and increased productivity. As a 50-year-old I now eat anything I want to at any time of day, in any quantity, combination and order I feel. If I want ice cream for supper or a bowl of mashed potatoes for breakfast, that’s what I have. I exercise regularly for stress relief and metabolism. I focus on building strength and endurance. I do drink one coffee but strive to take it with steamed milk. As a person with food allergies, avoiding even trace amounts has made a great difference. I no longer dine in restaurants, other than a trusted all-beef burger or gf pizza. My regular diet utilizes a lot of lean meat and veg slow-cooked, beans, cheese, rice and potatoes. I don’t find food is much of a problem if I stick to this. I am working on the emotional triggers by working at building a low-stress routine and a life I don’t want a vacation from.

I found that Cirtrucel is best fiber for IBS C, magnesium citrate, Cleanse Smart by Renew life. Please dont get hooked on laxatives, I depleted my electrolites and was hospitalized. I've had IBS symptoms for over 30 years. My doctor just told me to take more fiber, Metamucil, avoid AXY foods... Didn't help. I read an article that Turmeric may help symptoms. I started taking it and within 3 days all symptoms were gone. 8 years later, still gone. My sister had the same issue. I told her to try Turmeric, she did and the same thing, within a couple of days all symptoms were gone. So much anxiety and discomfort for so many years. Yet doctors still wont advise a natural remedy even if it's staring them in the face.

It’s incredible that turmeric worked so effectively for both you and your sister! It’s fascinating how sometimes natural remedies can provide relief where traditional treatments fall short. Your experience really highlights the complexity of managing conditions like IBS, and it’s unfortunate that conventional treatments like increased fiber and Metamucil don’t always work for everyone, especially after years of trying.

I'm recently diagnosed with High Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure so some of the foods that Low FODMAP eliminates are foods that I need to lower both. It seems like everything I eat is sending me into the bathroom lately. And IBS has gotten more painful for me with rolling sharp stomach cramping, low back pain, and just feeling tired and not so good after the bathroom trip. It's super annoying and life disruptive, especially while it's now summer and I'm taking more day road trips.

My situation is so sad it is comical! I was eating chicken livers cooked in bacon grease with onions and garlic a few times a week, only thinking of the "liver." I had stomach issues but never nailed it as IBS until this incapacitating flare up. Thank you for helping me find my way out of the woods. And now I see another reason you "are so good." Everyone is different. The gut biome is extremely complex and any food exclusion list has to be taken as a list of “this has worked for some people”. There are a lot of things to think about. Addressing the food triggers does not address the root cause. This is the most important one. You may still be doing something fundamental that is damaging your gut biome. The list 7:39 may be a lot more nuanced for you. Example. Only lettuce might be a problem, in which case try lemon juice on it before any other dressing. If this works, you may have the same problem with raw cabbage in coleslaw. Grated carrot, grated celeriac, avocado, tomato, peppers may be fine. It may only be modern apples like Braeburn that you have an an issue with. (Waxy skins that have been bred for long shelf life are different to most heritage varieties of apple) Nuts may not be a problem. Not chewing them enough might be. Try them crushed in a nut roast. Or crushed pistachio on a salad. Fatty food is very likely not just a trigger but a likely root cause. Cut out any processed meats as well, like ham and bacon. Steak and any red meat may be a core problem Refined sugar is another candidate for the root cause. Modern emulsifiers in processed foods are very likely to be a root cause. Whole grains and brown rice may not be an issue. It could well be that your gut is just not used to them and you tend to overload. Instead of brown rice try one part brown rice, one part white basmati rice, one part lentil. It has a much more calming effect on the gut. The thing to try to apply is that, although there will be a root cause, the bigger variety of food you can eat, the better protected your gut will be. Food yo-yo 7:39 isn’t good either. Spicy curry loaded with tomatoes one night. Creamy rich cheese sauce loaded pasta the next night. Big lump of meat that takes 10 days to digest the next night. Crappy snacks and a bar of chocolate and a sugar hit that strips your gut biome gut lining the next. Greasy take away the next night. Healthy salad the next night. No wonder your gut can’t cope with digesting raw salad at the end of that week.

@@SIBODigestionHealthTips-if8oc I am not convinced that the problems people experience with so called Fodmap foods, that are also whole foods, eaten for thousands of years, are the root cause of the problem. Very little research has been done on the cause, most of the research has been done on dietary intervention. Mono and disaccharides of fatty acids are in the vast majority of modern long life foods on supermarket shelves, that is a big and obvious red flag to look at. There are other “modern” ultra processed food ingredient candidates too. There is a rethink going on with gluten. New research is showing that 8 (possibly as many as 9)out of ten people with “gluten intolerance” are targeting the wrong primary culprit for their dietary health problem. I think it likely that more research will reveal a similar problem with so called Fodmap foods.

Steps to heal IBS (Note- While doing these, if you have bad period of irritation do intermittent fasting for not more than 2 days, only have your first meal by 2pm so that your body can rest and give you relief): 1. Identify your triggers 2. Your mental state is probably about 60% of the healing process, so realise that being healed isn’t really = happiness, people have very bad digestive issues daily and they may or may not have IBS, but digestive problems is a general problem of mankind; don’t let it ruin your mental health. 3. **Start doing Low FODMAPS and if you’re not Vegan, you can do carnivore or only fish based meal as one of your meals, ideally breakfast. 4. After 6 to 8 weeks blend Okro, Red bell Pepper, Ginger and Turmeric and take about 2 or 3 tablespoons for about 1 week. 5. Start introducing some High FODMAP foods gradually which could still be beneficial to your health like Salads, Fermented Vegetables and Apples especially in your dinner.

I've undergone a colonoscopy and blood test to rule out Coeliac or worse, thanks for that. I have IBS and to top it off a slow motility oesophagus, so small pieces of meat etc are the best. I have no gall bladder so guess that contributes at times with fluctuations in bile. Reflux is also a bother and as I love to exercise it can be really annoying when I think I've had a good break from food beforehand and suffer an attack. I am the process of eliminating my Lactose Free Milk and Yoghurt and my Gluten free bread to see if either of them is still a cause. My husband is our cook and forgets at times what is off my menu so I remind him but eat what he has prepared anyway! I'm 76 and this has been going on for some years and I have recently learned that depression can be a contributor, not funny at all. I realised I was looking at it all wrong. What was priming the gun? I had been looking for triggers. I cut out shop bought bread completely. Health back to 100%. I have been able to reintroduce everything else. Was it the artificial raising agents, the chemical emulsifiers, the residual pesticides in cheap flour? Who knows? For me, it's beans. I know, I know.. Supposely fiber, which beans have a lot of, is supposed to be a low FODMAP food. However, when I go without eating beans for a long time, I dont have the bowel leakage, hard stools, and itchy rectum. I also dont have blood on my toilet paper after passing hard stools. But soon after eating beans again, within 24 to 48 hours, the symptoms come back. I also always bloat up like a balloon, including if I eat tofu. My digestive system and beans just dont get along well at all.

I lost 20 pounds in 3 months and then the IBS started happening gradually. Today I am just wiped out and my stomach muscles are very sore. I didn't have these problems until I had gastric bypass. I also ended up in the hospital once. They gave me a CT scan and they said I have thickening in my lower intestines. The next day I had a colonoscopy. He couldn't see a problem except he wasn't able to get into my small intestine. Anybody who says for everyone to cut out dairy and gluten IMMEDIATELY loses any credibility. There is absolutely no reason for everyone to do this. I have zero issues with either and both are really soothing to my system. Also, ignoring the psychological impact of a restrictive diet is also a huge red flag to me. If you have IBS with constipation you will never poop again in this dietary recommendation. The biggest trigger for me is incomplete bowel movements. I'm not even convinced I have IBS because doctors just dismiss symptoms as this when they don't have time to actually figure out what's wrong.

I have had a bad problem with bloating after I eat, and the low FOBMAT diet has helped a little, but I am vegan and I need to eat legumes for protein and I need vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower for their nutrients. The active ingredient in Beano is the enzyme alpha galactosidase. That enzyme helps to break down legumes. If it works for you, then great. Maybe that's exactly what you need. It's also possible that it's treating the symptom and not the cause. If it only works temporarily, then that may be the case. But it's certainly fine to to use. Best of luck!

@@ipekbaykara3187 Interesting thought. Nightshades are very difficult to asses, but worth investigating.

I started getting bad cramps and gas. I kept wondering why. I normally ate stuff like chickpea salads, green smoothies every day, chicken breast with broccoli. Who knew this was making me sicker. My doctor kept giving me GERD meds but deep down I knew it wasn't that. Until a new doctor told me last week to try FODMAP diet and it has helped significantly.
