In summary: A car's fuel tank must be provided fuel which has a ron value AT OR ABOVE the ron value listed for the car. E.g. a car's fuel tank rated at 91 ron can use 91+ values (95, 98, etc.) a car's fuel tank rated ABOVE 91 ron (such as 95, 98 etc.) CANNOT use 91 ron.

So premium unleaded is 95 minimum, but E10 has ron of 94, so does that mean it's safer to use even if the flap says premium unleaded only?

Well I have FJ crusier - it is said it needs premium fuel. (93) however here in czech we have 95, 98 and 100. Should I go ahead and start putting the 100 in there? I cant find answer anywhere. it is very confusing cause it would seem that our cheapest most common fuel is the american premium, which doesnt sound real.

Are the octane levels in European standards? Some countries/regions use different measuring standards. The regular gasoline in Europe is 95 E10. Other options are 98 E5 and 99 E5(?). I'm not sure if 99 is E5 or E0 since it isn't sold in my country, only other parts of Europe.

What if my friend use RON 98 V-power and put a bottle of Octane boost boost the RON over 100? Would it cause problems to the engine?
@baresan46993 жыл бұрын
No
@notsureyou3 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the context. What I mean is that in general it won't, however there are a few things to keep in mind. - Quite a few "octane boosters" boost by such a negligible amount that selling them should be illegal. That is some claim to boost octane by 3-5 points, but what that means is that the 98 octane fuel becomes 98.3-98.5 So use a proper one like Nulon Pro Strength Octane Booster which claims to boost the fuel by 7 whole numbers (70 points), and even they claim that using it in combination with higher octane fuels give diminishing returns on octane increase, HOWEVER - Depending on what car your friend has, the engine may not be able to take advantage of the highest octane fuels in the first place. The reason is that there is only so much an engine can advance the timing before it can back fire/ other bad things. Which is why the ECU is programmed to ensure this doesn't happen. Forced induction engines generally need the higher octane fuels because of the higher pressures in the combustion chamber (due to more air forced in, versus "naturally aspirated" which just sucks it in) The ECU is also generally programmed (tuned) with that minimum fuel in mind, so while you can go a little higher, you will rarely see a reduction in fuel economy which makes up for the higher price. From my own experience if the car has 91 octane as the minimum, 95 octane will yielded the best results, for the most commonly used REV range (unless for some reason you drive with the engine at an average 5000 + RPM....). With my car using 95 gives the best performance in the 1500-5000 RPM range, using 98 gives poorer acceleration and performance below about 4500 rpm. So by using 95 I am only disadvantaged above 4500-5000 RPM, but by using 98 I am disadvantaged from idle until about 4500-5000 RPM SO if your friends car has a minimum octane of 98, then using a proper octane boost could yield some benefits. But again Octane boosters/ higher octane fuels may increase performance and efficiency a tad, they aren't liquid Schwartz. That is if you want real performance gains, you need to upgrade your engine (intake, exhaust, internals etc), For example in Australia the new Camry non-hybrid engine puts out 152 KW, which is an increase from 135 KW, but the compression ratio has been increased from 11:1 (from memory) to 13:1 and now having 95 octane as the minimum versus the 91 octane previously.
