I'm from Sweden, and I think it's so much fun to see the different species you can catch in different countries. I love fishing European Perch and the Northern Pike! And that is a wonderful spot you found. Looks so relaxing!

If I ever get to Sweden, we will have to go fishing!

Cool to see that the plastic bait aren’t totally useless. Maybe this year I’ll get out.

I always use plastic at this spot. Live on lakes. I think the fish don't get a good look at it in the fast moving current

That looks like a fun spot! We went fishing last night. I landed the biggest fish I've ever caught up in Minnesota. I had a Snoopy fishing pole and my northern was bigger than my pole. That was a good time!

Years ago on an outing to the wolf river in WI I found a natural insect repellent. The mosquitoes were horrendous as usual that time of year. Found a few ladybugs, flipped logs for beetles with repugnatory glands, gently agitated them to release toxin, dabbed and spread on clothing and skin. Noticeable improvement. Personally no rashes or skin problems but can't speak for everyone.

Love those gulp leaches but I recently upgraded to the Berkley Maxscent flatworms because they still have the scent but they don't dry out! I end up having more of them as I don't worry about them drying out on the hook!

I've caught alot of big fish over the years amd lost alot of big fish. Salt water was a huge bull shark. Fresh water was a 4 1/2 ft common carp probably 60 pounds. Why I say the size and weight is because I've caught them over 40inches and 40lbs and thos one dwarfed my biggest catch but she was just too big to real in on your basic Walmart medium action rod. Anyways Dav good luck on lake of the woods in Canada. I've always wanted to do a fly in fishing trip somewhere in Canada with my kids. Maybe one day.

You gotta loosen that drag a little bit my man…great video tho, from one die hard fisherman here in Pittsburgh PA to another…..tight lines dude!!
2 жыл бұрын
I try and set the drag so I don't play the fish too long and exhaust them. It's a fine line and sometimes I lose. I'll be back to this spot to try again soon

Well, shit is right... always the big ones that get away, huh? ;) It just needed to grow a bit more until next time, I'm sure! ;) At least I learned some American geography... I remember that we had a test on the states a long, long time ago, back in what might be the Swedish version of middle school, and I had a pretty good idea about where Minnesota is, but when you said Mississippi I got confused, because I only associate that with the south of the U.S. So I had to look it up. And I learned something. And it's not even a school day. It's probably a good thing that I ended up teaching Swedish as a second language and not geography...
2 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear that. The Mississippi River is Ojibway for big river and the state is named after that

Biggest fish I've ever lost...9 foot blacktip reef shark that jumped and broke me off while fishing off the Keys at night on a scouting adventure. Also, concerns on toxicity of most bugsprays to fish etc. are nearly negligible unless you're drenching yourself in a gallon of it before going out and then wiping it on the fish (which I would then be concerned about your health as well). Small amounts properly applied are hardly an issue, and things like picaridin or lemon eucalyptus are considered nontoxic to aquatic life in standard amounts (DEET has recorded effects, but typically only in high amounts not likely to come from one person having sprayed it on themselves, and they all do break down over time). Info from the National Pesticide Information Center out of OSU.

Darn it. You worked so hard to land that bad boy. My only fishing experience? Daddy plants me on the bank, after sunset, (not allowed btw) and told to watch the pole for 20 minutes. K. And whatever happens don't drop it. "??Huh??". Down a bit on an incline, visually across the lake from the Ranger station up on the hill. Pole dips hard. I'm stage whispering "DADDY!!!" I hear him shush me an start to scrabble down to me hissing "REEL IT GIRL!! REEL IT!!" I did a decent job until I fell on my bottom and realized I was 1)losing ground and 2)that damn thing was BARKING AT ME!! I was at a mic drop moment when Daddy snatched that pole laughing like a loon. He landed that Cat, took it to another family as poor as us and it fed a family of 7. Thank you for letting me think about this on Father's day. He's been gone since 2017 and this was a good memory.

I haven't thought about hellgramites for years! When I was a teenager I found them under rocks in the Saline river. At night the adult form would fly around under street lights. Ugly!

Grow a couple citronella plants. Then all you have to do is take a bag full of citronella leaves with you to rub on your skin while fishing. Voila you have your natural safe mosquito repellent.

If you got frays on your line it means your line is brittle and old. Time to change out that line .

I did that just a few weeks ago. Lots of rocks and rip rap in the river that damaged my line. It's all part of the game
