Our daughter was born on October 19th (3 weeks early) at 5.9 lbs & 18.8 inches 🌼 Sorry for the delay with this video, I wanted to use the first month to really bond with our baby and soak up as much family time as possible while also getting used to our new life as parents 🎉 My heart wasn't ready for this; I wasn't very emotional or hormonal during my pregnancy, which is surprising considering I'm quite an emotional person to begin with, but the flood gates exploded open after giving birth to our girl. I feel everything so deeply and so profoundly, it's overwhelming in a beautiful way. Motherhood is truly inexplicable until you experience it. My whole world is completely different now. My thoughts, my ambitions, my priorities, now all suddenly revolve around you, Airi.

I’M SO HAPPY FOR YOU! From “you’ll never have children” to “you’ll have to have a c-section” to “I got to have a natural birth” is unbelievably amazing! Considering all of the elements that made it seem like it was going to be an extremely unavoidable clinical experience, you still managed to have a truly amazing actual human experience with your 1 chance at it. It is such a beautiful thing! Sad that Mike couldn’t be in the room. My Japanese wife worried beforehand about me being a distraction during her delivery of our son too. However, in the end she was quite amazed at how my attentiveness and involvement in helping with decisions during the process actually helped to calm her down. She appreciated how I was able to help allow her to focus and concentrate on what she had to do instead of trying to deal with nurses and doctors distracting her constantly during her “meditative state.” Congrats! And Airi is a beautiful name for a beautiful soul! 🥰

Congratulations! Airi is also a beautiful female name in Finnish. It comes from the word "airut" which means omen/messenger/herald. I think it fits perfectly with the Japanese translation - she brings the message of love and reason :)

I think it's so interesting to hear the instructions and tips you were given in the delivery room. I wish common practices for birthing were a lot more publicly discussed, stuff like pushing your spine down and abs up. That's so specific, I feel like it'd be nice to get to train and workout those muscles beforehand, like taking prenatal vitamins or something. I feel like everyone should know how new humans are brought into the world and what they can expect to hear and do should they venture down that road themselves, with a partner, or with friends and family.

I absolutely agree! I used to work out a lot before I got pregnant and I really think that helped. I wouldn't know what or how to push if I didn't know which muscles to flex.

I was just thinking about you all last night. I am so happy you both are doing so awesome! As someone with a ton of your female health issues as well. It makes it so much sweeter. The coaching is so awesome. I absolutely love the name you all chose! Welcome baby Airi!! 👶🏻🎀🍼👩🏻‍🍼👨‍🍼 It is so funny way back in March 2nd, 2000 ( my 1½ days away from being a leap year baby of the new Millennium)! Hey 🎵☔️ Prince reference, the was no party like it is 1999 when you almost 8 months pregnant, lol. I am such a 🤓 nerd. They told me 3 times she was going to be a boy and 19 year old me was clueless what to name him. The father was clueless too. I had always loved the name Chloe, it was really rare back th3n. Myself being a Michelle (literary 4 Michelle's in a 7th grade science class of 25. I wanted a unique name. Well, surprise she came out as a girl! I named her without even asking anyone. Of course now it seems either everyone has a dog named Chloe, or the mean girls on TV have it. My 22 year old Sea Aggie is doing awesome now as well. Wanted to add a funny if not way to long story to such awesome news! We need more happy news these days! Edited because I accidentally gave her emoji triplets! Sorry about that Reina! ❤️

The telepathic connection with your baby, even if it wasn't spiritual, it probably also helped you to physically calm yourself which probably helped you have an easier labor and without all the chemicals in your body from negative emotions, it probably helped calm your baby too since they were still connected to you!

Congratulations mama! 🎉 ✨✨ (Fan living in Japan hehe). I had my baby 2 weeks ago. I was lucky that my husband was able to be there in the delivery room with me, and he was able to stay for only an hour. I guess depending on what hospital you do it in, they have different rules. I didn’t think delivery was going to be that painful and with no epidural! 😵 Also! It sucked because while I was having contractions, they made me take the PCR test and the doctor and jyosanshi had to leave the room for 30 mins til the results came back. I was in so much pain that I kept pressing the nurse call button. 😭🤣🤣 Like what happens if I was positive?! However, I did enjoy the hospital food lol.

Congratulations!!!!!! 💕That's so cool that we almost had our babies at the same time! And it's so wonderful your husband could be there with you! Although I'm also shocked that they made you take a PCR test WHILE having contractions, that's awful (and I was thinking exactly what you wrote- what if it was positive?!) But so glad it wasn't and that everything went well for you! Congratulations again 😍

Thank you so much Reina for sharing your beautiful birth story! These are my favorite stories after having my own first baby last May. Listening to what other women go through and experience is so amazing to me, especially from another country! The part where the nurse had you 'communicate' what was going to happen to the baby made me tear up, the support they offered sounded very unique. And i agree about the stitches being the worst part! I had a natural delivery/no anesthesia and 2 tears, i remembered that pain more than anything else... Enjoy all the sweet baby cuddle and being a new family of 3, its so freaking magical! Love from Canada

Congratulations Reina and family!! Airi is such a beautiful name and baby! I can hardly believe how incredible and cheap your care in Japan was. I don't have children or ever plan on it, but giving birth here in America sounds like a horror story in comparison. People go in debt for hospital care, hardly get time off work, and get the boot from the hospital pretty much right away. I'm so happy that your experience was so phenomenal though!!

Congratulations Reina! You and Airi both look so healthy and happy! And thank you so much for the informative and honest video. I have watched a few videos by people giving birth in Japan, and I'm just so impressed by the care you get. In my home country, because there is always a shortage of hospital beds, you are pressured to go home after giving birth as soon as possible. I even heard of a friend of my brother's who went home 3 hours after giving birth! Maybe some people want to go home quickly, but I really think that the training and support you got at the hospital, AND the delicious and healthy food being prepared for you, is so important. It's setting you and the baby up for a good start together by giving you a good rest, and having so many experts around you to help. My husband is Japanese so sometimes I think if we have children, maybe I should give birth in Japan, but I probably can't get the lump-sum allowance if we're not living there permanently, so I will just have to make do with my country's system, ha
