Really enjoyed that video. It was one of the most informative videos pertaining to questions that have been haunting me since I began hunting for minerals. You can imagine how pleased we are to have Those types of rock in our piles. What I enjoyed as well was the thorough examples and explanation of its behaviour was that it was to the point. Thumbs up all around G.R.E.I.!!

I went to an area close to gold basin and checked black metamorphic rocks (I think they're metamorphic). Found a big vein looking outcrop. But not sure if it carries gold. My metal detector won't sound on quartz vein but right next to the the vein it will sound when swinging detector passing the quartz.

Can you pan gold from pyrite INFESTED rock,will it separate in the pan, or is it the same density
@goldrushmines5 жыл бұрын
To pull the gold from pyrites you will need to crush to a very fine powder, then separate, this is best done with flotation, or cyanide. Short answer, you dont want to be trying to crush and pan gold from pyrite. Your recovery will be less than stellar.

Lots of ways, the most simple if you have free gold is to crush the rock to a fine powder and then run it over a table. If its sulphide, you will need a flotation system to extract after crushing.

Cracked me up and learned something. 👍 6 mins in. THAT rock is all I really see here in Oregon. Off a claimed site anyways. Recently found an approximately 30ibs rock too heavy to carry that was covered in pyrite and rust, clay and hard rock like that. Just off a trail in the right environment for gold. Gold bug kept reading it like 2 different metals, one which was a gold sound. Broke off pieces. Took home tested. .18 IN JUST MAYBE 6 ibs of crushed material. Silver, Gold flake throughout along with alot of pyrite, specs of solid copper. Hiked back up 2 days later to get the rest.....GONE. Someone left it, came back to get it or stumbled on it as I did. Made me sick. Been scouring an area of Mt. Hood National Forest since December trying to figure out where they got it from or where it came from. Where it was just didn't have what was showing in that one piece. Possible, but not exactly where it was. No trace

Refineries will only run ore in batches of several tons, and its not cheap. You will need to quantify in most cases, the source of your gold. if you dont have the rights to the claim it came from, you could end up in big trouble. Best of luck.

Here in Washington they brought me some large black shale rock for my driveway, I picked up a fist size shale/quarts. I turned it over to look at the white quarts and there were 12 -1/4 inch gold flat sided points pointing up. I figured because they were in the shape of a pyramid that it was fools-gold. Someone relieved me of it so I know longer have it but just was wondering if my analysis sounds right.

A high grade chunk from a vein like that big chunk could hold a few oz. Its a big difference in working a vein vs. getting values on a per ton basis which accounts for all of the material around it.

@SaltwaterServr8 жыл бұрын
Gold is formed in certain stars during the final stages of fusion of heavy elements when other fuels have run out. Once the star supernovas, the gold is spread out through space. That's where all gold originally comes from. Once planets form, the dust discs they form from has gold in it and gets concentrated as the planet forms. Meteorites could deposit some gold and other precious metals, but in all likelihood the gross majority comes from the initial planetary formation.

Hi. Just curios when you say you see gold pieces in the pyrite, you sure that is not fools gold as in chalchopyrite? As far as I know gold in ore is invisible to naked eyes.
@goldrushmines8 жыл бұрын
10 or 20 years ago we would have thought the same. Gold will be malleable and can be dented with a knife or fingernail if its really pure. There are lot of mines that work in microscopic gold, but that doesnt help the small miners. We locate mines that can be worked by average people without a lot of expensive equipment. In many cases, that means finding deposits and gold that can be easily and quickly identified!
@johnmyers5417 жыл бұрын
The gold being visible to the naked eye depends on where the ore comes from. I've crushed a couple of tons of ore from old hard rock mines, about half of it had visible gold on the surface of the rock, the other half had visible gold as well, it just wasn't on the surface of the rock.
