Honestly, can't say enough about how good of a channel this is. The analysis and the ability to look beyond things at face value is incredible. Like you said, Potter's time at Chelsea doesn't remotely reflect the capability of this manager. He's an incredible manager that suits West Ham to the T and with time, he does wonders wherever he is. Great job guys and looking forward to keep seeing your stuff!

With AU we're trying to find ways of talking about tactics and analytics in a way that isn't too boring or dry, that's the goal at least! - Charlie
@512Squared11 күн бұрын
I've seen others suggest Potter plays more with almost wingers rather than wing-backs, playing with a back three instead with two defensive midfielders, with Todibo, Kilman and Wan-Bissaka as the back three, Soler and Alvarez as the DMs. That means Emerson might be on the bench, maybe covering for Paqueta, since he's shown he can link the wing and midfield play.
@analyticsunited11 күн бұрын
We advocated for AWB to play a similar role to one you're suggesting under Lopetegui at the beginning of the season, but we obviously didn't really end up seeing it. It's going to be interesting to see how he ends up working with the squad and players like AWB who don't seem to directly and obviously fit into what we think Potter could do tactically but his adaptability is one of the things I think everyone at AU is hopeful we'll see and benefit from. - Charlie

Our owner handled this situation just like he always does…. Like a circus…. ! We will never be right until he is gone… and his family involvement! I’m hopeful for Potter, but I ain’t sure if he’ll be able to do anything quickly, there’s a lot of ground to make up for …. My one concern is that his typical system won’t work as well as it might with our 2 keepers, I don’t think they can give Potter the best for his system especially with the way he uses a back three and the keeper in effectively a back 4 and the way he expects a keeper to play out and pass, let alone see the pass…. I am hopeful he will get the best out of what we have and start putting players in the optimal position and the least we will see is consistency in the first month or so…. Our coming fixtures will allow us some latitude in developing quickly…. But although Potter wouldn’t have been my first choice, I am happy to see him at the club and I hope he will succeed.. He will get my support going forward….! COYI ⚒

Great video guys incredible insight. Just a thought, seeing as how potter is such a good player developer - do you think any of the current academy prospects or players out on loan (earthy etc..) could be utilised to fill some of those gaps that are needed to be filled for the roles talked about?
@analyticsunited10 күн бұрын
Especially in a season where we probably won't be challenging for Europe (sadly) or in a relegation scrap (hopefully), including youth players seems like such an easy win. We've been talking a lot about Scarles as being the most obvious one! If Potter does end up using a system that has wingbacks like he has in the past, Scarles is arguably the most natural fit we have, including the senior squad. - Charlie
@chunkyharry530010 күн бұрын
@ yep it would be great to see some of the players used as much as possible. Have heard that potter is starting an academy player today, thinking it makes sense to be scarles! Hopefully ages well and a good performance if it does happen today and the start of more minutes

Everything else being equal: having a good man-manager, a calm, intelligent face to the club is a massive step up from the two previous managers and the board...We're ahead already. No expectations for this extended preseason we have left now, except a reshaping and development of the squad for next season. Europe 25-26.

First of all, thank you! And secondly, Moyes! Would love to talk to him about those first few months and finding players like Soucek, Coufal, Dawson, Lingard etc. Would also be fascinated to hear his thoughts on the increasing usage of 3-box-3 everywhere, the popular defensive solutions, and how to implement those whilst retaining a strong mid-block that can be effective on the counter. - Jack

AU, I feel Tim and Potter will be a respectful fit to operate for the greater good. I feel in my water, that Potter's apparent/reported cool and gentlemanly calming Brooking/Southgate nature and outlook, will effect Tim in a position way. I am quietly frilled and hopeful for the future as long as Sully stays waaaaaaaay away. Just focus on his adult magazine. 🙁🙁

Morning AU. The huge Q is imo, do WHU and "Potier" Potter have the man power to play football the cottect way. Who needs to go and stay. If the coin to bring in new players is not yet available imo Potter should focus on surfing up the defensive side of WH's game.

Chaps, do you not think that Bowen might be moved inside to one of the attacking midfield positions to allow for a wing back outside? I feel he’s sometimes wasted out wide - although of course that’s without the team being properly set up to suit him. But I think he’s super busy and hard working out of possession so being one of the 2 in the middle seems to be ideal
@analyticsunited11 күн бұрын
It's going to be really interesting to see how Potter uses someone as talented and important as Bowen, both this season and then in the longer term past the summer when he's had the chance to work with the squad and sign some players. - Charlie

Athletic & pacey midfielder/CDM massively needed for him to succeeded.

Maybe potter may try 4 4 2 with the wide 2 midfielders moving forward with the full backs doing the same or overlapping
@bernardjakob895911 күн бұрын
West Ham's main problem this season has been the lack of any pace in the midfield when we are out of possession. Bowen is good at getting back at pace, Kudus makes an effort to stop teams breaking at speed, but apart from that, we have a squad full of midfield "joggers", which opponents carve through at will. Regardless of what you think of Lopetegui, this is a recruitment issue. The players identified by the club (presumably Steidten) have their qualities, but pace is not one of them. This was a major error when recruiting for a Premier League club, and left Lopetegui and his coaches trying to shuffle a squad missing such a vital component. I hope that Potter is dealt a better hand by the recruiters.
@ScottRandall3111 күн бұрын
We have two youngsters who are some of the best in P2/Championship who easily could have filled those roles. It was a total tactical issue.

I have heard that we have approached Kyle Walker Peters from Southampton…. Apparently Villa are also interested in him…. So who in the club might have targeted him given this was a few days back, I’m not sure, but I think he would suit Potters system of play…. ⚒

AU, do u feel AWB's newly created Lopetegui swashbuckling role will be curtailed by Potter. Will AWB's XG be reduced. Will AWB's imo increased value, reduce back to norm by becoming a more defensively minded player. Will AWB prefer it.

It's almost too easy to mention the academy as a new manager, I'm thinking back to the video of Lopetegui meeting with Earthy before he started for example, but I'm hopeful that Potter could use some of our youth players. Scarles at LWB is an obvious one! - Charlie
@richardjames790511 күн бұрын
Sysiphian culture? Wow !!!! There’s one for pseud’s corner. Otherwise I am enjoying your measured analysis of the recent events that have occurred. I believe the dithering decision is the right one. I referred to Lopetegui as Moyes mark 2 but with a pool of better players at his disposal that he wasted. It was pointed out that there was a chasm in midfield that allowed an opposing team to attack- counter attack using route one that desperately needed to be filled. The mentality of devoting so much attention to defence and therefore negative play can only last as long as that defence doesn’t start leaking goals and this has happened at West Ham.

My question is guys why have they not brought you boys in to sort the number's for them you are better than anything they have⚒️⚒️

You praised Potter who finished 9th with Brighton (his biggest achievements with them; two other seasons he finished 15th and 16th) when he had the following players: Dunk, Veltman, Bissouma, Caicedo, Cucurella, Gross, MAcAllister or Welbeck. I'm not optimistic at all, hope he proves me wrong but for me he's just overhyped manager (without any reason as his records are pretty average) who couldn't find any club for the last 20 months so eventually he agreed to West Ham. Imho we should patiently wait until the end of the season and then judge Lopetegui. And if we decide to let him go that's fine, then bring proper manager and carry on. But nope, let's turn everything upside down in the middle of the season. Let's see how it ends up...

Can't agree with the Moyes points. He was only interested in his first eleven. The squad was alienated.

The club is now in a better position (no thanks to Sullivan). Lopetegui was a Spanish equivalent of Steve McLaren - brilliant coach to international level, but his man management skills were less than desired. A middle range La Liga team is his ability at best - he should never have been entertained in the first place. The players will respond to Potter - other than a few prima donnas like Kudus, Paqueta and Alvarez. If he is smart he will get them out the door very quickly.
@adlad319912 күн бұрын
He had quite a few primadonnas at Brighton i.e Bissouma, Trossard, Maupay yet they all worked brilliantly under him. This is a manager that hasn't fell out with any player in his career. An incredible man manager!
