There ain't no rules of engagement when it comes to staging against someone. You could have a gentleman's agreement but that can always be broken. You definitely nailed it you just gotta run your own race
@GregCobb3 жыл бұрын
I think this sums it up nicely. When I raised four wheelers on dirt with a sportsman tree I was taught that I should be moving when the green light comes on. I was cutting a .007 or better light. There is risk in going red as well so run your race and when when you can.

Reaper, Thank you for the explanation on how the roll out through the Stage lights works. Another thing to add with the roll out of the front wheels is how much stagger is allowed and built in with some of these cars. Example; my friends Top Sportsman car has a 1 inch stagger built-in between the left side and right side front spindles/tires per the class rules so the roll out distance is that much more or longer before the trailing tires clear the "Stage Light" beam. This is the reason why cars will Stage a shallow as possible during Qualifying Rounds of class racing, they are looking for as much roll out or running start before the timing clock starts.
@mikelohmeyer41403 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your thought and opinion. I think after both cars are fully staged it should be a random amount of seconds Before the light goes green nothing that would torch a transmissions. Also I think it should be a driver's agreement that is agreement that Turbo cars Fully stage Last.
@slowpoke96Z283 жыл бұрын
The delay is randomized from the time both stage lights are lit and the thre ambers go. The .400 or .500 is always the same, decided and agreed upon before the race. At least in the NHRA. The tree can be programmed to work off the starter’s command by the button. I’m not aware of NPK being any different and wasn’t told such when my team ran NPK in Ennis last weekend. Drag racers are taught since jr drags to chop the tree down. Trip zip is the goal.

It isn't a new concept, and as you explained has been around as long as flaggers have been starting races. I’ve been out of racing for yrs but at the same time spent the majority of the time I was in it bracket racing & index racing. I suppose it’s a good thing I don’t do any green light racing because once I broke both beams, the next step would have been chopping the tree down and bringing it with me. My teachings and my actions were if you waited to leave when you saw green, go park your shit on the trailer because you just lost. Apparently the NPK , flashlight, arm drop is just that different tho. For me personally, waiting on green to leave would be an extremely hard habit to break even after being out of racing for nearly 20 yrs….🤷. None the less, nice video Reaper. I thought you explained things very well.
@student1979oct3 жыл бұрын
The "go on green" comes from flashlight starts in street racing. There, they say if the tire cracks before the light is on, you jumped. Now these guys are coming to the track and they are having the opposite problem that you would. Except there's no ambers for you to time the green off of...
@chrissteinmeyer61193 жыл бұрын
Great explanation. I was wondering if it was just purely guessing or if there was some science behind it.
@garymckinziejr71943 жыл бұрын
Once one car turns on a stage bulb the other car has 7 seconds to turn in their stage bulb. Then once both cars are staged there is a random timer before the amber lights come on. You can guess but the time is random. Typically your time slip will say wether or not the starter used manual start or if auto start was on.

Don't know about anybody else who watched the video but, for all of the years I drag raced (quit racing in 91) I never guessed the light, no, I anticipated the light, who in the hell waits for a green light. That is stupid in my book. Anyway, staging was everything did manage to catch 3 perfect lights over the 12 years of racing. Very seldom did I red-light, it is all about focus and NEVER EVER getting "rattled" by anybody or anything. Never used a delay box. I guess drag racers today do things differently, should get back into drag-racing if everybody is waiting for the green,lol.

Now you're right when it comes to both drivers having the opportunity to guess a tree and Chuck has it figured out when it comes to running Justin that's for sure...... I was watching one of chucks videos where he guessed a tree and beat Justin a second time doing it and both drivers had the same opportunity to guess the light but yet again as always Justin came up short relying on that big horsepower but that's been nothing but a damn mess between Chuck and Justin's team where one will start bragging and it pisses the other one off and then all the drama starts but the only one that acts like they've got a inch of common sense in that small mess there, honestly is Justin because he's the only one that really don't get bent out of shape over even though he don't like it and really you can't blame the guy because he got beat by a lesser horsepower car and you can't blame Chuck for guessing the light because he knows he has lesser horsepower and needs every advantage but I mean honestly the two strongest cars in the NPK would be probably Ryan Martin and Justin Swanstrom with kye Kelly coming in not far behind with that monster musi power but anyway it's comical as hell to watch only every now and then, when Chuck boast and brag when he gets his win and then Corey lets it eat away at him and then he gets ready to turn Chuck inside out but knows that he can't because it would get him and his team banned but gee whiz those two just need to meet at a truck stop somewhere and get their differences over with and then come back to the racing surface and act like damn grown ass men for a change and knock off the ignorant shit and race and realize there has to be a winner and a loser....
