Honestly i was fine with Ashiok's role. However it felt to me that they intentionally created the shadowspear from the nightmares of Heliod himself, and then tortured Elsepeth till her only thought was vengeance. But once they set Elsepeth on the path to HEAVILY damage the Theros Pantheon (and potentially set in place the pieces to recreate Cacophony) they traveled to New Phyrexia to learn to create even better nightmares.

I feel Ashiok is one of those enigmatic characters that is more a narrative tool for characters and the plot to develop. Than a hard antagonist.

I don't know what brought us to this point. First Theros had an incredible lore, and even TBD has some nice lore elements, but just like Historic at its time, they just don't support lore. When I think at how much potential is wasted with Ashiok, Phenax and the other gods, i'm deeply saddened. I play for the lore, I build decks and buy cards for the lore. I don't know how many player are like me, but I think WotC is making a HUGE mistake by letting the lore down.

Ashiok has always been my favorite! Plus it's powers to bring form to others greatest nightmares is insane. Think about it, Nissa tries to fight it, boom, eldrazi titan esque nightmares. Ashiok has the potential to be a huge threat, but seems to not have the desire to go full villain yet. It is seeming to be testing the waters still. Nightmares may be something we fear, but they can become our weapons to cause fear in others. I wish they focused more on Ashiok so much.

Part of Ashiok's schtick is to bring down the powerful with their own fears. They probably will love to harvest the nightmares from living nightmares themselves (the phyrexians). I like the idea.

Blue black is amoral at best. I am putting my bet dear that Ashiok will set himself a challenge to bring fear to the fearless. I almost pity the Phyrexian. They spent time experimenting on others, now they will be a chew toy.

What is the nightmare of New Phyrexia? As in, what does each sphere fear? The thanes are easy, they fear each other. The furnace level fears the orthodoxy, so that's another easy one. As for the orthodoxy itself, I can only think that they might fear a usurper? Big V's green crew fears extinction I'd figure. The progress engine has me all the way stumped tho

Iv been thinking what if the events of Theros Beyond Death was actually all part of Phenax's grander plan, and in some future return to Theros it gets revealed that Phenax is slowly removing the other gods one by one until he is the last remaining

Does anyone else think that Theros would make a great live action movie for MtG? Like you could have all the followers of one god building up and finally you see the god come from Nyx and wreck havoc? Also, people who don't know MtG would think the Heliod is the good guy when in reality he is not.

I was really hoping to hear more from kruphix since they now know about the existence of planeswalkers. Definitely seems like the next big bad will be phyrexians thanks to ashiok. On the plus side maybe we'll see Koth and Elspeth reunite. I just hope Koth is okay.

It looks like the shadow spear has phyrexian oil on it. maybe it was accidentally brought to Theros via making elspeths fears into reality. Maybe Ashiok planned it all along to reap the nightmares soon to follow either way we are definitely going to see phyrexian soon one way or another.

You're right ! It indeed looks like phyrexian oil :o That would be sick but I think the new Phyrexian block will happen in new Phyrexia as Karn tries to destroy it. Maybe Elspeth will be cursed as she joins Karn and may become the new Yogmaw ?

Just as a nightmare fades into wakefulness, so too did Ashiok disappear from Theros. Fitting and poetic considering the Greek themes of the plane, no? However... "What happens when it is the dream that wakes and the sleeper that fades into memory?" This haunting text, though unconnected to THB, seems to me to align with the machinations of Ashiok and may have some real consequences for the Multiverse at large. Consider for a moment that the smoke-wreathed enigma already creates disastrous nightmares from dreamstuff with mere whims; what would happen if they were to encounter Phyrexian Oil? If any medium were to be said an enabler of horrifying revelation, it certainly would be that, as Elspeth can surely attest. What if the worst could come to pass, the penultimate night terror of the Blind Eternities: What if Ashiok learns of an ancient cursed tomb sequestered in a far-flung marsh? Can the Sire be fostered by the nightmares he once birthed?

Ashiok is most likely an oldwalker, even if they were at some point of time human, they are definitely not one right now. So even if concept of gender still aplies to them, we have no way of knowing it. So why bother? English language has a perfectly usable gender neutral pronouns. It's not "sjw nonsense" it's just logic
