Mexican American here, I grew up in Mexico ,I dont believe Mexico is a Nationalist country #1 because they receive with open arms people from all over the world, (most Mexicans are friendly) #2 Most Mexicans dont see themselves as better than any other countries/people. In my opinion just like Mexicans can be super warm and welcoming they are also very smart people that have pride in their roots if someone talks down on something like their food which natioanal pride or if they feel like a foreigner is talking down on them they will react. The military parade is because Mexico supports 100% their army men, most of the military people will die for their country regardless of the $.

No sé si nacionalistas.

The Mexican army helps the population during natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, they have search and rescue teams like the ones sent to Turkey after this country was hit by an earthquake several months ago. Their engineers build infrastructure and much more. They don't go overseas to invade, occupy and destroy other countries. Real heroes save lives, and that's the main purpose of the Mexican army. Just pay attention to the equipment displayed in the parade and you'll undestand.

Well said, I noticed in the US there are no military parades like the one in Mexico but instead it’s more disguised as in fleet week and at sports Stadiums with events that seem like public relations, and a way to recruit for the armed forces.

@renemaya1778 thank you for putting it into this perspective! When you put it that way... I actually agree with you. Having grown up in the USA, I'm used to seeing military as bullies and mismanagement of taxpayer dollars.. thanks for helping me see this other side to it.

It’s interesting to see how locals view other people in Mexico. I am a white male from Chicago but my significant other is Mexican-American and we spend a lot of time in many parts of Mexico. I can honestly say that during all of the years I have interacted with Mexican born and Mexican-Americans in Mexico I have always been treated great by everyone I have interacted with even when I am by myself. I have also never seen my partner treated badly. I wish I could say the same about Chicago. I know that there are bad people everywhere but in general I find the people in Mexico more accepting of different people. I do agree that if you have criticisms about certain things it is better to keep them to yourself.

As a Mexican American living in the USA, I feel so much anger toward Yahritza. They are giving Chicanos such a bad name and reinforcing negative stereotypes. I feel that they should never have shown up there. They obviously haven't yet hired a good PR agent. Any professional management would have known that showing up in the middle of a national scandal would not be a good idea. They need to go back to Washington and lay low and let this controversy pass. Right now they are just adding fire to the flames. They also need training and education on how to conduct themselves in PR events. If they want to keep pursuing their musical ambitions they need to train for it in terms of good PR behavior. They literally need to write a song about the situation and apologize in the song and hopefully sing about how they learned from it and grew from it.

I’m a Mexican who served in the US Army and I felt Anglos picture a white man as a patriot soldier not a brown like me. Mexico receives immigrants better than the USA also. Mexico has been at war with the USA and lost 1/2 its territory, it wasn’t until I studied the Mexican revolution that I found out zapata and Villa weren’t villains as the USA portrayed them. Mexico is one of the only nations that has fought a revolution to free itself from a dictator. I spoke with many Mexican-Americans that said they felt ashamed to be Mexicans and they mistreated and told Mexicans to speak English. They said the USA culture pressured them to do that even though they themselves were 2nd class citizens. Mexico in its constitution has Mexican-Americans as Mexicans of their parents were Mexicans. AMLO calls heroes to Mexicans that live in the USA. More and more people are feeling proud to be of Mexican decent, because we have an ancient civilization and great people. Reason being for many people from every where calling Mexico their home. I have had many of my family members give their hard work for the USA and sadly like me have been discriminated. So, Mexicans are born where they…f.. want. Feel proud!

Greetings from a Chilango living in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, I lived in the United States for 10 years and in Europe for another 10 and answering your question, I believe that we are Patriots more than Nationalists. Patriots because in our hearts we carry Mexico regardless of whether we are in National Territory or on Everest, Mexico in the Blood, and we have been educated this way since we were children, in addition to the fact that this abundant Culture is not easy to find in other places in the World, I know because I have traveled quite a bit. I do not consider myself a Nationalist because Nationalism and Fascism have a very thin line, if we were like that we would not welcome foreigners in the warm way that is customary and at the same time we would not have the level of Tourism that we have, very far from a Mexican being Nationalist, even though there will be a small percentage of the Population that is Extremist like in any other Nation As for those born here or outside of Mexico of Mexican parents or descent, it is incorrect to compare people like Yaritza and her Essence, those chavos decided not to measure their words and made a mistake, and they are also being given too much prominence and I don't even think about them, those chavos don't feed me and if they don't like Mexico, then Good Bye. Anyone who does not have respect will be treated the same way, just look at Borolas or Ricki Rickin Canallin, Loret de Mola, Profugos because there is no room for rats here. A Mexican, even if she/he was born in another country, feels Mexican and we will consider her/him Mexican, in his branch of You Tubers there are several examples, with respect the Mexican will open the Doors to our Fraternity and our House to you, that is the Key RESPECT, examples Ford Quaterman (gringo), Rusos Reaccionan (Russia), Corazones Gemelos (Cuba), Esto es Argentilandia (Argentina), Jan Bohnensteffen (Germany), Alexa López (Colombia), The Romantic Corner (Spain), so there are hundreds who love Mexico and they also contribute because not only Mexicans but people from all over the Planet see them and they do it with RESPECT and Love for Mexico. The problem here is that Mexico is attacked a lot out of envy and Mexicans like me are short-fuses, especially with National Symbols or our Internal Policy. There are thousands of cases that you can find even Burning the Flag of Mexico, of course We are going to react, wherever you are from. Maybe, for example, you yourself comment that you don't know the meaning of a National Guard truck, you don't know what it is taking and has taken, the path to having the National Guard all over The Country and the Fight against Politicians of the Opposition that does not want to see Mexico Better and want to continue living with Violence, those are exactly the details that You must if You really love Mexico Educate Yourselves more, not just the good songs or the good tacos or paradisiacal places, we have to know where we are Standing as Mexicans, Chicanos, Pochos or Nationalized Mexicans even if we live abroad. Send a big hug to You

Re: your open question about the military. I think that, like always, it depends on context. Mexico's military has never been used to invade other countries, and although there's been cases in which it has been used to oppress the people (ie Tlatelolco, 1968) it has never staged a coup* or defied orders from the civilian president. I think one can feel plenty of resentment still for the times the military has violated the trust of the people, but also a higher level of trust compared to countries where militaries have done worse. Regarding patriotism, I think the context becomes important too. We are Mexicans. We didn't arrive here on boats. Yes, we speak Spanish and our skin is multicolored, but we are not the same people who committed genocide and enslaved the people of this land- we're the people who rose up in arms to kick those people out of here. Our fight for independence was a fight against slavery and racism, our revolution was a fight for social equality, land distribution and fair wages. This is all a spectrum of course, but generally I'd say Mexico is not a country of invaders and oppressors, but on the contrary, a country that time and time again hast to fight against them. Nationalism is defined as the- "identification with one's own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations". Being patriotic for Mexico, given this historical context, doesn't equate being nationalistic. [*] the current, post-revolutionary military PS: great video btw. I heard about the rain in the news! In spite of everything I kinda wish I had been there, it looked like a great time!

The independence was started and promoted by direct ascendant of Europeans and Mestizos that didn't want to lose their privilege over others. Similar to what Texans did. See, the kings and representatives of the kingdom were actually doing go things for the people and protected them. But the Europeans that were born in the virreynato and the mestizos believe that they were being betrayed by the king . That's why, after the independence to now, we have racism , colorism, and classism in México.

Lol, our DNA is around 60% spanish on average according to many genetic studies and the ones who freed the country were criollos or Spanish people born in the Americas like Iturbide, Josefa Ortiz, Hidalgo, Morelos, Allende, Aldama and Leona Vicario, most had links with the Spanish Royal Army or people who held public office under the Colony, yeah the country was founded under values of race equality and brotherhood but we are not free of our share of blood, if anything the main reason why we became independent is because "The Motherland" was becoming too Liberal for the taste of the colonists, the 1812 Court of Cadiz was working to unify the Empire, take away the Viceroyalty system and turn every group in the Empire a full fledged citizen of Spain no matter the ethnic or racial origin which the Criollos didn't like. For better of worse guys like Iturbide and Guerrero ended up becoming leaders of the Rebellion and ended up actually supporting the ideas of the Court of Cadiz in the end (which served as a base for the first mexican constitution) There were many attempts to commit crimes and genocide against indigenous peoples like the Yucatec and the Maya outright having a race war (which is the main reason why Yucatan became independent of Mexico for a decade) or Benito Juarez ordering the massacre of several indigenous peoples for siding with the church and Maximillian Hapsburg during the 2nd Mexican Empire (the Imperial government gave a lot of land back to the indigenous peoples that were taken from them during the Reform War to gain their sympathy) like against the Yoreme people in Sinaloa and Sonora, then it was Porfirio Diaz who sold indigenous peoples as slaves.
@kevin9794
@kevin9794 Жыл бұрын
@@aldoxlalleca yes, criollos played a big role. And the independence movement was started in support of Fernando VII. But the reason we didn't stick to Spain after Fernando was restituted, and the reason the Mexican empire didn't work out after that, and Iturbide was ousted, was because the independence movement grew to reject European-ism and "Spanish roots" in favor of the identity of its people. Compare that with the USA or Australia for example, where colonists didn't mix at all, and don't have any semblance of native identity. The American flag doesn't have Iroquois symbology. There was a big civilization in the Mississippi River- they built pyramids too (see Monk's Mount)- no one even remembers their name, and Americans don't claim to be their descendants. Our second president was African-American. Benito Juarez was a Native American president fighting against an European emperor. Yes, the emperor was brought by those Mexicans you're talking about, the ones who didn't want to lose their privileges, and who were so connected to their European roots and so convinced of their superiority, they went to Europe to find royal blood to govern Mexico. That faction has always been there and we see remnants of them still even today, but they do not define the national identity. If you ask random Mexicans on the street, "who are your ancestors, before Columbus crossed the sea?"- I can assure you the majority will tell you "the Aztecs", or "the Maya", etc. Few will say, "the Spanish- my ancestry arrived here from Castle".

I am a Salvi born living in Canada since I was 6. I am now mid 40s. I feel and identify much more w being Salvi than I do Canadian. I actually don't even say I am Canadian even though I am a citizena and I grew up here. I don't partake in any patriotic or nationalistic celebrations for ES's Día de Independencia. And also not for Canada day. I don't wear blue and white or red and white to show my pride. My pride for my home country is shown in so many different ways everyday and not just on a specific date. I think having pride in your nationality or heritage can be expressed in so many ways that don't necessarily have to do w nationalistic or patriotic expressions. But I understand the social allure of it all and it looks like you had a great time. You will have so many cool memories to look back on. At the end of the day, your identity is yours to create. Nobody can state it for you. As for military showboating, the military in El Salvador (with the support of the U.S. and Israeli government) caused immense harm to our own people in the past. For that reason, we had to leave and we ended up in Canada. The military also massacred a large number of our Indigenous peoples in El Salvador. To this day I do not like participating in celebrations or rituals w militaristic tones. I am very much a pacifist. I have found the comments in this video about how Mexico's army has never been used to invade other countries, and instead the focus is on the civil service they provide, very interesting and I respect this a lot. As someone said above, your military is not perfect, but it has not done as messed up things as other militaries have done and I think that is worth learning about. ❤

Honestly I love this channel.. I have commented this before but I am Cuban-American and we in the Caribbean diaspora consider ourselves to be a part of a diaspora. I was just talking with a guy who was born in the Dominican Republic last week and he felt the exact same way about how we are separated from our homelands but still very attached to our roots. What I am saying is that it isn't fair that you become 'less' Mexican if you are born elsewhere. I can understand if you were born in Mexico and feel confused by someone who was born elsewhere returning to Mexico but it is a great learning experience for both mainland Mexicans and Mexicans in the diaspora. Even though he is Vietnamese-American I highly recommend the KZbinr Kyle Le Dot Net because of how he goes around the world as well as to Vietnam to interact with Vietnamese in the diaspora and on the mainland and you see exactly what those of us in the diaspora feel where we are genuinely proud of our roots but almost sad that we haven't been back to our homes.

thanks for recommending that channel, we'll definitely check it out. Anything that helps us as people connect to one another and empathize with our overlapping human experiences... that's so important. We tend to naturally gravitate towards familiarity in content consumption but this is especially when it's about other cultures. We went to Vietnam during our Southeast Asia honeymoon trip and loved it, but feel like we still know and understand very little about it. Looking forward to checkng out this channel. Thanks!

Interesting some interviewees said that it’s AMLO’s last Dia de Independencia. Actually, that’s not true. The presidential elections are in July 2024 but the new president doesn’t get inaugurated until December 2024, so AMLO will still be president at next Dia de Independencia (9/16/24). Just a clarification point. Loved your videos, guys! Saying hi here from San Francisco, CA from a Mexican-born first-generation Mexican American.

Not much happens on the 16th as it’s a national holiday, people are off work and the city will quiet down a bit. But it might be a good day to go to Xochimilco if you haven’t been!

Hey J&K, just wanted to thank you both for discussing this issues with your viewers. There not in anyway easy conversation and obviously hard not to bias as this issue affect people like us Americans with Mexican roots which we love dearly and our very proud of. I feel that at the end of it all they’ll always be individuals that even if your born in Mexico you’re still not enough Mexican for them. That’s fine, people’s are entitled to their opinion, but my position is that you don’t have to love everything about Mexico to be considered a true Mexican. As we know Mexico has a lot of issue that I neither condone or support. But there more things a love about Mexico than hate and what’s more important is how we see and experience our own personification of our Mexican culture. For me, I’m proud of being Mexican because the bloods that runs in my vine are of Mexican

Great video of a fantastic celebration ... I love Mexico for all the same reasons you do ... and for my own reasons... I was always afraid that Mexico would become too Americanized but i need not have that fear because I see their strength ... Thank God ... because Mexico is GREAT!... so I love it when your content shows Mexico AS Mexico ... You two living in DF is a great good thing... I am a big fan of you both...!

This was such a fun video and such an interesting topic, too 👀🇲🇽 I've definitely gotten a few 'you're an illegal immigrant' comments from Mexicans before, even though I've always had my paperwork up to date. Aside from those few random comments, I've always felt very welcome in Mexico 🙏🇲🇽 10/10 for video production & getting it done so quickly, that's no easy task at all and you guys make it seem effortless 👏👏

I appreciate your questioning what our relationship is with our parent's country of birth. I've been grappling with questions having to do with how does someone born here and doing well help those on the other side who suffer from poverty. Do most people hand out cash, ignore the discrepancy of living conditions or just buy little extras/treats? I just honestly have no idea but I am finally realizing this must be a widespread situation

most of the time I see discrimination towards Mexican Americans, it’s usually in the US by a person born in Mexico living in the US. It’s usually nothing more than teasing amongst friends but I do see people get heated about “how Mexican” someone is, and it’s all very silly.
