Maybe Joss Whedon should start his own network. He could finish his shows and give some of these others a chance as well. We could pretend Serenity and the Dollhouse endings never happened and pick up the shows before they knew they were cancelled. Most of the Firefly cast has said they would happily come back. And I saw James Marsters at Wiz Con a few yrs ago and he said he’s always available for Joss, that they could pay him $1 and he would still show up. Oh James, Torchwood, another one that should have continued. Arghhh!!! So many great shows have been lost.

Oh, yes they do! Especially intelligent shows, like Firefly, and Dollhouse. And even though it had 8 seasons, House, MD, claiming "it was too expensive."(said in high, mocking voice) It's not that's it was too expensive, Fox is too cheap for anything except stupid "reality" shows. House's entire cast and crew offered to take a substantial pay cut to film another season, but Fox tossed them out like rubbish. And the show still did well in the ratings after 8 years. But oh, my goodness! We can't show intelligent shows like Firefly to people! Gasp! They might LEARN something! (sorry, I tend to get extremely sarcastic when stuff like this sets me off. These smug, self centered tv execs really get up my nose.)

One you forgot to mention: Quantum Leap. The Bartender was supposed to be a cliffhanger and Sam was supposed to have more of an understanding as to why he was hopping in time. At the end of the series, he was supposed to face a space alien hundreds of years as the person who was really leaping him in time, and Al was a leaper trying to find him in history and time to save him from the alien.

I'd love to know what would have happened had Dark Angel been renewed for a 3rd season. That was such a good show, I can't believe they cancelled it. Also would have liked to have seen a second season of both Forever and Almost Human. Almost Human was another show Fox screwed with (poor advertising, eps shown out of order, etc.) and it never reached its full potential. Forever should have been renewed, and I have no idea why it was cancelled. Rating weren't that bad IIRC.

Angel couldn't decide what it wanted to be. Killed off a major character in the first few episodes, changed from a detective series to a law procedural, and like most Whedon shows, characters would run out of things to do and get pushed aside for new ones. I also think Boreanz was tired of the character early on.

I'm still not over the cancellation of Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles. In comparison to the rest of the Terminator franshise this show was more in line with Terminator 1 and 2. And of course, Cameron, the TOK-715 Terminator, was much more interesting and a more believable infiltrator than Arnie's T-800. Especially her dynamik with the young John Connor character was very interesting, weired and romantic at the same time.

I recently rewatched the series a couple weeks ago on Crackle and got pissed all over again. It was a GOOD show and I can’t think of another similar since. Falling Skies was the closest. ☹️

I was hoping that they would mention Forever, it was such a great show that clearly had the potential for a long run. A few years ago the creator of the show did a Reddit AMA where he gave some insight into what would have happened next. These are the points that I can remember: The cliffhanger ending would have been resolved by having Jo receive a call out before Henry could tell her the truth. She'd make several more attempts to get the truth from Henry throughout the first episode of season two, but they'd keep getting interrupted and she'd eventually drop it. Lucas would be the first person to find out about Henry's secret. It would be revealed through flashbacks that Henry actually had another wife (I think she was Spanish) between his first wife and Abigail and that he had children with her, but his immortality was not passed on to them. A third immortal would have been introduced, a woman who was younger than Henry and would unplug Adam's life-support, thus freeing him by letting him die and come back.

Seriously all the blame can be laid on the TV Execs that (1) thought that screening things out of order was a good idea (2) wanted sucess, _Now, Now, Now_ like a bratty child rather then waiting for the story lines to grab the audience over a slow build. The demand by the TV execs for almost instant success meant that they just repeated themselves over and over with new show after new show and really it was their actions originally that drove the viewers into a wait and see cycle.

Fox is notorious for that, one of my all time fav shows, Wonderfalls was another victim. They played 4 episodes, out of order and not all on the same day of the week then canceled it for low ratings. But the DVD set has the full 13 episode season...like if you paid to produce them why not just air them all and see if it catches on?

Constantine.....ooowww...that show >sigh< i had such high hopes for it. i think to have done the character and his stories real justice it needed to be on a cable network and be a lot more gritty and lot less like Supernatural, which it was most often compared to. Matt Ryan was the perfect casting though. He really did sell Constantine and was justly rewarded with being on the CW shows and as his voice as John in the WB cartoon films....but now it's Constantine as part of the Teen Drama shows that are the CW roster. Such a shame when something as dark and...mad as Preacher gets the show it deserves and Constantine didn't.

A bit confused with his take on Alphas though. I didn’t think everyone was dead; I thought they were all unconscious, like comatose. What about Now And Again???!! It’s hard to think of a more original blending of different genres, and I’d really appreciate a follow up to that cliffhanger! Thanks for including one of my faves: Journeyman, that cancellation hit hard! There were many of us who fought to keep it on. As someone who was also a fan of Quantum Leap, the show got a bum rap by those mistakenly grouping it as the same show, not true at all. You also left out Joan Of Arcadia. Another very original premise that ended its first season with a promising twist.

What about Stargate Atlantis which was canceled after 5 seasons. Season 5 had the highest rating of the show, won a people's choice award, and was SyFy's second highest rated show at the time. The writers ended off the show with many questions unanswered. They did outline a brilliant season 6 and 7 they already had planned out, and its cancellation was a shock at the time. SyFy canceled it because since they didnt produce it and only owned the broadcast rights in the US, they didnt make as much money off it as a show with half the ratings that they produced in house. With the US syndication canceled, the show was axed internationally. In fact the lead on the show, Joe Flannigan, managed to convince MGM who produced it to revive the show, brought in new investors, negotiated a 10 year broadcast rights to the show, got the shows most popular director Any Mikita to sign on. And even got a commitment from Jason Mamoa, post GoT, to come back for the sixth season. He and his people, with input from fans wanted to take their new season 6 in a new direction and he outlined later what he had planned. However MGM during their bankrupcy sold off the rights to all Stargate properties and the new Studio who owned it, refused to allow the continuation of the series as they had different plans for the property.

they had plans back in 2008 when it was canceled and then in 2011 when Flannigan tried to revive Atlantis. SG-1 while it ended in the middle of a plot point they were able to end it off. And to be fair 10 seasons was a good run even though it had its second highest ratings when canceled. Searchlight who owns the rights to Stargate is working with Roland Emmerich to reboot his original film into the Trilogy he originally visioned. Though after fan backlash they seemed to have put it on hold, but Emmerich still says they will make it. The issue is with Searchlight. Amanda Tapping had an idea to Bring back Stargate with a new Franchise focusing around the SGC after the end of the Ori and to deal with new issues. But searchlight axed that idea too. The issue is with the idiots who own the property. Until then I will enjoy rewatching SG1 and Atlantis

the reason we were 'lucky' was because ABC's upper management were desperate to put Haley Atwell in another show, so they were finding any excuse they could to end Agent Carter so they could use Atwell in other things. It's quite sad their agenda (which didn't work) lead to the show ending early and being unremarkable in the grand scheme of the MCU.

yes to all 3. especially the second two. Terra Nova's cliffhanger is what made me want a season 2. and the original teen titans was just great, and I could definitely have gone for another season or two, but I'm also at peace with how they ended it. That epilogue episode was one of the best sendoffs of a show I've ever seen. and very unusual for a superhero show, normally they end with the big battle and triumph. Teen Titans had the balls to end on a bittersweet note, acknowledging that things change, people move one, and some things must truly end. it was something I didn't appreciate at the time, but a few years later I watched that episode again and was struck by how profound and well told that message was. Revolution, it was forced into rushing an ending,and left so many cliffhangers and loose threads. although honestly, I loved early revolution, before everyone had machine guns and the show was more committed to the low tech type combat and the more personal and less crazy scifi conflicts. I didn't need the nanite sentience plot thread, but it was part of the show and there's no changing that. all three good shows.

I loved that show too! Another big problem is that the episodes were shown out of order (Fox striking again). It makes so much more sense watching it in the intended order. One of the biggest indicators was how their relationship kept jumping all over the place. they went from cold one p, really friendly the next, back to cold and mistrusting then back to friendly.

An older series worthy of this list is "The Sandbaggers" which ran for 3 seasons on BBC from 1978 to 1980 involving (then) contemporary British spies. During the filming in season 3, the main creator Ian Mackintosh disappeared flying between islands in Alaska. The producers brought in writers to complete season 3, based on Ian's outlines, but left it on a cliffhanger with a main character being shot. Its production values were consistent with the time (not great) but the story lines and acting were above average. There were some plans for season 4 involving moving the one character to a desk job and promoting another to make room for him. Overall a great list, Tru Calling, Firefly, Dollhouse, Crusade, Journeyman, even Star Trek: Enterprise (less the season 4 finale) were all shows I watched and were worthy of being continued with good to great storylines and acting.

Their was a show called The Finder, if I remembered it correctly. It was a spin off from the tv show, Bones which the main character made a one time appearance. He was a help for hire type character that would find anything the client had lost not matter how long he/she/it was missing. One of the stars of that show was Michael Clark Duncan and the first season was fantastic. Unfortunately, it was cancelled because Michael Clark Duncan died from a heart attack and the show-runner did not want to replace/write oft his character in the second season out of respect. So the show just ended on a cliffhanger and it was heartbreaking to hear for many reasons.

GoAwayGoogle From what I remember they successfully closed the huge anomaly that was the cause of the apocalyptic future. But then at the end of the last episode the character that had come from the future to fix everything saw a future version of himself who was covered in scars and told him that what they did hadn't changed anything and the future was still the same. Its a shame it got cancelled would've liked to have seen a genuine conclusion rather than a US spin off that had few ties to the original show apart from a character cameo which also got cancelled after ending on a cliffhanger

the Pretender continued after the shows season 4 ending, they made 2 tv movies (which again left on a cliffhanger and took the show in a really strange direction) and where supposed to do more stuff but that stuff never happened, eventually the TV Movies released on DVD followed by the TV seasons.

One with government ties, the other, corporate. Supposedly, all of life's answers are given to you after you die. John Doe died, then resusitated after an extensive amount of time. the scarring on his chest, a byproduct. His color blindness was a byproduct of his dying. The government cabal, wasn't a government agency, but simply people who infultrated the government. The other cabal had extremeists who killed, but were not necessarily the bad guys, just as the government cabalwasn't necessarily the good guys. Digger was going to be killed off, possibly replaced by stocking cap. Tthey all wanted what was in John Does head: ultimate knowlipedge = ultimate power.
