Hospitals and doctor's offices were never made for us black women. I went to the hospital once because I have severe asthma when I was 7 months pregnant. The wm who checked me in said I was okay. Nothing was wrong with me. But I told him I wasn't leaving until he checks me in. So he did I seen a female doctor who checked my oxygen it was 50%. They kept me for 7 days. We must be are own advocates!

My mom died 20 years ago, 6 days after giving birth to my little sister. I was young at the time and didn't understand but my aunts said it was due to negligence at the hospital, she could have lived. I miss her every day but she's gone💔 My little sister lived and has grown into a beautiful and intelligent young lady. As a Registered Nurse, I can say something seems negligent here. Go to every lawyer you can until the right lawyer takes your case. I remember watching Nicole's video on how she became short of breath walking short distances and feeling like she's being killed from the inside (or something a long those lines), I was thinking something is wrong here. Labs and scans should have been done when she complained about these symptoms.

At even nine months I could walk up a flight of stairs and be slightly winded but definitely far from feeling like I’m about to faint. That’s not normal. They failed her.

The hospital refused to give me service for 1 full month because I did not have active insurance. Let someone hear your voice. Luckily I was an advocate for my son who died . Nicole and Baby Reign needs you to advocate for them. I am so sorry. That is something I never got over. Happened since 2017, but God is Able. We have very little information but what they though was an obstetrics issue may have been a cardiac or respiratory issue. That isn't hard to imagine and wouldn't be considered negligence. When an ambulance picks up a pregnant woman it is usually an obstetrical issue. We need more information before commenting.

She expressed her concerns to her midwife that not only was she out of breath and was exhausted just by walking from one side of the room to the other, but she also was having pain when walking and it felt like she was dying and like her baby was “eating her alive.” The midwife brushed off her concerns and told her that it was “normal.” Clearly it was not normal because look at the circumstances and what happened.

We know such a small fraction of the whole story so it is impossible to comment on the situation. We don't even know how she died. We don't know how many times she complained to her midwife, what observations/tests were done as part of routine (like blood pressure, protein in the urine, looking at swelling, etc.), what her midwife said because we only had her interpretation of the conversation, etc. Clearly something may have been missed but whether it would have been identified in time and whether any treatment would have prevented her death is unknown. Would assume it is likely a very rare complication. That doesn't guarantee that negligence was involved. Maleficence would imply that the NHS staff desired for her to die or to be harmed. There may have been very rare cases where NHS staff purposefully harmed patients like a nurse that injected patients with insulin to harm/kill them but except those rare cases healthcare professionals don't purposefully try to harm people. Before people vilify the NHS staff you at least need to know the whole story and how she died. Would add that an autopsy can take 3 months because it takes a long time to get back results from things like toxicology so it is actually likely a sign of a thorough autopsy.

I had eclampsia in 2015 also midwifes failed to pick up on the protein in my urine and high blood pressure witch lead to me having multiple seizures witch nearly killed myself and children so had to deliver him by emergency C-section at 32weeks praises to the man above my son I healthy&well!! Just had a little girl 2nd July 2020 and because I was high risk of having it again I was on aspirin from 12 weeks witch brought my Risk of having eclampsia again Right down too 20% thankfully I have two beautiful children and here to voice my story ASPRIN SHOULD BE GIVEN TO EVERY PREGNANT WOMEN ESPECIALLY THOSE IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY AS WE ARE THE ONES AT HIGHER RISK!! As a black obstetrician, ethnic minorities and black women shouldn’t be scared to have a baby. They should empower themselves with knowledge and ask questions. Speak up, if are not happy say so. Never leave a consultation without having your questions answered pregnant or not. If you have a concern raise it. If you feel that concern is not being addressed ask politely for a second opinion. First step should be contacting the General Medical Council (GMC) to report the incident, detailing all those who are involved (hospital, doctor, unit etc.), the negligence that took place and the result. All healthcare workers are registered members of some kind of medical defence union that deal with negligent cases on their behalf. Then finding a medical negligence lawyer to defend you. There’s deffo a case and honestly no amount of money, doctor being struck off, apology can rectify the mistake they’ve made, but there needs to be accountability so this doesn’t happen to anyone else. I don’t know how many times black women can continue to shout about the medical bias we deal with and the changes that need to happen, so many preventable health issues and death, it’s crazy. For those saying it is not about race I can assure you that is really is. I found this video from an Instagram account and it led me this video and in the comment section of the insta video I found a comment from a registered nurse and this is the exact comment. “I am a registered nurse. I know this to be a fact. It is extremely sad but true, that women of color are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy complications than white woman are. The sad reason is the same reason so many other horrific things happen to people of color. There are far too many racist people that don’t value the lives of people if they don’t have white skin. I know I will get a lot of flack from telling this truth. I am Italian and Irish, but I have seen and known this for years. I have 3 biracial daughters (2 have blessed me with grandchildren so far). That’s why I went to their OB appointments, kept tabs on them and was with them and stayed with them during labor and delivery. I reported two doctors years ago when I worked with Mom’s and babies. It was also so obvious how they would fire on the white women and babies (especially if they had money) and pretty much barely attend to the women of color and their babies. Look up the statistics on it and you will find out what I am saying is extremely sad but true”
