I have throat cancer…once I was diagnosed I wanted to know more and found that KZbin didn’t have anyone documenting their journey. So I am going to do that in hopes it helps someone having to deal with this.
My throat cancer journey will be different than everyone’s however the process of radiation therapy is basically the same. What’s not the same is the severity (stages of cancer) being treated and the physical effects vary by person.
Regardless this is my story. For everyone beginning this journey, during or after … tell urself just one more day.
For those who want to follow my treatments subscribe and follow.

I’m glad you are on the other side of it. Your story sounds really similar to mine. Had hoarseness that progressed, ENT said it was allergy, finally biopsy, was squamous cell carcinoma on my left vocal cord. I went to Mayo and had a laser newer laser surgery in July of 2021. And been cancer free since. Have check ups every 3 months. God bless!

Thank you for this. I was diagnosed with right sided tonsilar cancer . 7 sessions of chemo and 35 radiation sessions. I’m into week 4. Loss of taste is the worst all pain is in right side. Yup they keep saying get ready it’s gonna get worse. Thank u for this! I appreciate your giving of yourself

Great to hear they gave you a good diagnosis. I'm 15 months out from tonsil cancer with 2 lymph nodes. I had 3 high dose chemo cisplatin and 35 radio sessions. The whole treatment kicks the stuffing out of you for sure.But it's effective!. Best wishes for a cancer free future.

Same diagnosis for me. Finished first dose of chemo and 2 weeks of radiation so far. . Loss of taste is really the worst side effect at this point. Did the chemo get worse for you as you had your 2nd and 3rd? My first really had no side effects.

Your videos give me hope. I’m also Eagles fan now living in Florida after growing up in southeast PA. This afternoon my radiologist will map my head and throat and fit my mask. Hopefully, my experience is no worse than yours, but I’ve heard some really rough stories from others. Thanks for making these videos.

Congratulations on your progress. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos. Wishing you the best for the future. I have had a slight difficulty swallowing for about a week now and noticed a hoarseness in my voice. Hope it’s nothing but I have been a heavy smoker my whole life (64 now). If my symptoms don’t clear real soon I am going to get checked.

So glad to hear you are now doing well. I'll be having my last radiation treatment next week (28 in total) for vocal cord cancer which was caught very early, in stage 1. Not sure what to expect as far as recovery goes, I'm told the recovery time is about the same as the treatment takes, but we'll see on that. I guess every case is different. I feel very fortunate to have a great team at Orlando Health. But, enough about me, again, very happy to hear you are now doing well, it sounds like your recovery was pretty tough. Hang in there, bud! Thanks much for sharing your story.

Really great that you broke down the videos into weekly sessions since they provided a clear step by step picture of what you went through. I have seen other UT videos and you blessed in that you did not endure the suffering those other survivors experienced. Did you catch the cancer early? Did you have chemo (or I just missed it)? Thank you for sharing your journey. I have been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in the tonsils. I will begin my treatment next week. Stay healthy and prosperous with your roofing business. Go Eagles!

Thank you for sharing your story. Right now I'm going through something similar. I had an extremely hoarse when I went to the ENT and they ran the camera down there and said I have laryngitis caused by ulcers. I'm on Bactrim until the end of Sept and if that doesn't work I go back a few days later for a biopsy and to explore treatment options. Wish me luck cause my voice is completely gone now. It's good to hear somebody's story who's been though it and is ok because I'll be honest between learning that it could be cancer and not being able to talk a lot of the time other than to myself has kinda put me in a dark place. Thanks for sharing a be sure you keep an eye on it. I've been reading about it and from what I've read it is very treatable but there is a high risk of it coming back. Good luck.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I start 29 days of radiation tomorrow for stage 1 squamous cell cancer on my right vocal cord. The surgeon said radiation would be best because of the location (top of right cord). I think I've been living with some level of denial about what I will experience. Your sharing helps SO much. They suggest that I got it due to reflux that I've had for long time. Now I take Pepcid to prevent it. My father died of Esophageal cancer (alcoholic and pipe smoker al his life), so I was sort of on the alert for anything like that. Glad I caught it early, and glad to hear that you're cancer free! Live each day like it was your last. Love freely, especially yourself.. I'm ready for tomorrow......

Now I am mainly having issues with serious coughing like you keep me up most of the night. I have an appointment for February 6 to get my PET scan done then go back and see my ENT. Thanks very much for the videos. I’ve watched them all. I was diagnosed with medullary thyroid cancer stage 3 in August. November 3/22 I had major surgery, cut ear to ear like a columbian neck tie. They removed 18 cancerous tumours. Although it sounds horrible , the surgery was a big success. But to my surprise 3 weeks ago I was told I should do 33 treatments of radiation therapy as preventative treatment. As of today I’ve done 7. Unfortunately I got bronchitis last week and am really feeling the congestion and rough throat. Your videos at least give some perspective from a patients experience. I’m hoping I do as well as your experience. Just wanted to touch base and thank you. And I’m very happy you’ve come through this shit doing well. Dan Botnick. Toronto Ontario

Hey champ, great to see you got through this relatively ok to what I'm seeing alot of, and that is the feeding tube for a long time. I'm on day 7 of 35 plus chemo once a week for 7 weeks. Here in Australia they add dexamethsone with the chemo and that's 6 times stronger than prednisone with a long half life. They said it was to stop the nausea and it will give me energy which it did, but it got rid of the pain in my traps which is chronic and radiates to my head, and I felt like I was on top of the world, but 3 days later I was back to square 1. I will ask about the prednisone if I feel I will need it after the 7 weeks, although I do have a jar which was prescribed to me for bronchitis a few years ago.
@CertitudeHI
@CertitudeHI Жыл бұрын
Thank man. The prednisone helped me (was like magic). It so hard for the docs because each of these cancers get treated so differently because they are all unique and so are the people(us) that get it. They are guessing in my opinion. So I just kept them up to date with my pain level so they could help me as best they could. I think they add medication in order to ramp up the intensity of the radiation. I guess the goal is to kill the cancer so its a fine line between keeping us alive and destroying the cancer. I will be thinking/praying for you and your family. OH and FUCK CANCER!!!

I finished my 28 treatments almost 2 weeks ago and you are correct about the post treatments symptoms. Mine were not so much the swelling, but more hard cough to the point of almost vomiting. Then the Phlegm was real bad and is just now starting to taper off. My question is when will my normal voice come back? I am very hoarse and it will trail off to a whisper at times. IF I talk too much I will get this weird dry tickle that if I dont drink something it turns into a uncontrollable cough. Its like my vocal cord does a weird spasm that I can feel up to my eyeballs. I just want my voice back and not to be sleeping on the couch anymore with the late night cough fits. Thanks for the info and Go Phils..

My voice finally sounds normal again. I now have days where it sounds worse than others but then gets back to normal the next day. I can’t sing or yell as well as I use to ..definitely makes me mad. My husband is now in his last week of proton radiation. He is struggling to swallow. It is difficult for him to swallow the boost drinks even just a bit of it. He has no taste. He has a lot of phlegm and his throat feels pencil thin to him. He coughs a lot and it is brutal for his throat. We were so happy he was only two lbs down but when I read below it seems that as he enters his last week things begin to really get bad to get calories in. Drs prescribed Magic Rinse for his throat which has lidocaine in it but it has been useless. He finds a bit of short relief with advil but the coughing is a struggle. Thank you for posting your saving journey for us to know that he is not alone in his symptoms stage to stage.

Hi, I live in South Africa. The sun is always shining here and there is always the risk of developing skin cancer if you have a light skin. I developed a growth on the lower eye lid of my right eye. I do not know if it is cancer or just a benign growth but I went on a high nutrition diet for about two months and the growth have shrunk noticeably. I would like to share the diet with you. The soup Ingredients: - two handfuls of Chopped broccoli, one chopped onion (purple), two bags of green tea, two pinches of mixed herbs, two sticks of cut celery, Two handfuls of frozen and crushed spinach or kale, half a table spoon of crushed garlic, Three shakes of black pepper, seven shakes of turmeric, two tablespoons full of apple cider vinegar (with the mother), one bag of white onion powder soup for flavour, a hand full of cooked red speckled beans and a handful of cooked mince meat. Just add all the ingredients in a pot, add boiling water and switch the stove on high till the water boils. Then lower the heat until the water simmer, Let the soup simmer for an hour. The soup is now ready. I would only drink water in the morning. At 12h00 I would start eating the soup. There will be about two helpings that you can eat in the 12h00 to 18h00 time frame. I also ate a fruit salad every day in the 12h00 to 18h00 time frame. (Note: Apparently turmeric reduces the effect of some chemotherapy drugs and thus should not be taken during chemotherapy.) During the rest of the week I would also eat food that contains vitamin D like avocado’s, mushrooms, liver and eggs in the 12h00 to 18h00 time frame. It seems to be working for me, maybe it will also work for you. I pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ that you will be healed completely and that the cancer will not return. Amen. Best regards Chris “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. John 3:16 (King James Version Bible) Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son Of God the Father.

Went through this last year came off a 5k jog with a real sore throat had a bit of acid reflux at the time went to see the GP he put it down to the reflux about a week later started to lose my voice went back was referred to ent had a scope was told 99.9% nothin sinister but to get voice back better lesion had to be removed n would be biopsied, had follow up appointment was told it was carcinoma in situ stage 0, then had laser surgery after the laser surgery was told the biopsy itself removed everything, go for a check up every 4 months. Stay strong if your battling this 🤲🏽

So I’ve been watching your videos since I randomly lost my voice late last year. I went to an ENT and after the scope they found papilloma on my vocal cord. They didn’t think it was cancerous so I had surgery and it was removed. After it was removed they did a biopsy to be sure and it was in fact cancer. Both to my surgeon surprise and mine. I’ll be going through radiation treatment soon we just don’t know when yet. I notice all the Eagles/Phillies shirts and hats. I’m from south jersey so I was wondering where your treatment was.

I was diagnosed with the same thing.I have Squamous cell carcinoma it it in my left vocal cord and a small spot on the right. I did not do radiation I did KTP laser surgery they said I could go either way radiation or laser. I have had my 2nd and hopefully last surgery .They operate on one at a time so my vocal cords would heal separately instead of webbing together.My voice sounds rough time will tell how much it improves. I now have follow ups ever 4-6 weeks.I hate the coughing when im trying to heal.

It's great that you caught it early on. I also caught mines early and did the radiation therapy but had negative effects and it didn't do anything effective SMH 🤷🏽 and it re- turned and was told to do chemo but I felt like I was too weak to deal with the side effects and wanted an alternative which I did and saw a specialist with options. My go to therapy was turmeric capsules which is produced locally here in Hawaii. It reduced and froze carciogenic levels and the oncologist was surprised with results. I use the spice in my foods as maintenance and preventive care. So far so good. Hope and pray we don't ever go through this again. Thanks for sharing your experience. 🌺 ALoHa and GOD ❤ Bless

Congratulations what a massive relief for your family and you, I also have throat cancer and today I had the final cycle of chemo 6/6,- my oncologist has ruled out surgery and we will probably try immunotherapy after this final round-it’s IV for 96 hours.she is for some reason leaving the radiation treatment as a last option,having warned me it was quite an ordeal( I have managed the chemo Surprisingly well,only fatigue really,so that was a bonus I guess.Was surgery ever mentioned in your case? Thank you very much for your journey and words of encouragement to fellow sufferers expecting radiation,you are a fine,considerate man and deserve the great news of being cancer-free,God bless you.

@@CertitudeHI the 6 rounds of chemo was bearable but unfortunately the tumour remains,she(the oncologist) ruled out surgery right from the start,seeing her next week after scan result,with a view to immunotherapy which I have had blood tests to see if I am compatible,which I am thankfully.Radiation she seems to be putting off it seems…..she really seems to be the dr of doom and gloom with her manner which leaves me despondent,on the other hand I guess I should appreciate her candour…….

Welcome to the club 💩… I would just suggest that you rate pain differently than normal. I did the 1-10 scale and 10 is my arm getting ripped off or leg and dealing with it without any doctors or pain relief. Then as I was going through radiation it helped me put the actual pain in the 1-10 scale correctly. I wish for it to feel fast for u and for u to forget it ever happened when’s it’s over. 🙏

you gave me a lot of information a few weeks ago and it helped me a lot to know what i should go through. I start the radiation treatments monday 21 Nov 2022 and just after that i go for chemotherapy for 8 hours the same day. I have to 35 radiation treatments and 3 time 8 hours of chemotherapy. The doc said it might get to a point where I can't eat so the doc did an operation and put a gastric tube not through my nose but strait down my belly to the stomach. I am so happy for you and your familly that you are cancer free. @@CertitudeHI Thx very much for your support tomorow is my last day of the week of radiation treatments 31 more to go, but last Monday I had to do chemotherapy i got sick for 2 days but it was still ok. The great thing here in Belgium we have a lot of help all the different bills and payments and like cancer got a health code E its all most a 100% paye back by the health care system we have here, for 35 radiation treatments i have to paye 2 Euro and chemotherapy its totaly free, but for medication i have to keep all the payment i did to send it back to the Fondation contre le cancer Belgique aide au patien in english ( Foundation against cancer Belgium helps for patient ) where i can get each year 1490euro, but not more than 2 years . I remember when I lived in West Virginia from 1977 -1984 my dad had part of health care with his work but he had to get a insurance to cover the rest of his health care. I just don't get why the greatest and the richest country in the world that is the USA don't have a system like that to help its people. Our system works with solidarity like a tax that can go from 8 euro every 3 months and 24 euro every 3 months and familly that are on welfare its free, anyway that's another topic0 THE MOST IMPORTANT IS THAT YOU ARE CANCER FREE and that you can have great new things on your mind with your kids and wife be happy in life and have a long one i will be praying for you. THX again for all the help and support it do help me THX again from the other side of the world. sorry for my english writing i rarely write English I forgot a lot, try to do my best with google translation it help me remember a bit.

My haunted is going sometime this week to get his throat checked for cancer... He was battling thrush or that's what they thought.. Then it kept coming back.. Now they want an upper GI.. THROAT CANCER runs in his family.. His younger sister died from it 3 years ago.. And in the early 90's his aunt died from throat cancer.. My husband is already terminally ill... He has CHF (Congestive heart failure) along with having emergency hypertensive his BP usually runs about 180/110..hightest has been 290/180 not lying.. Most ppl would be dead.. He was in icu though.. My husband also has other major problems.. I'm just praying he doesn't have throat cancer but things don't look good In the past 3 months he's lost a lot of weight.. He use to weigh 200-220 he's 6'1 his thinnest he was 180..last week his doc weighted him he now weighs 130 pounds... He's lost a lot of body mass.. Extremely sore throat.. White spots.. Antibiotics did make him feel better but as soon as he was off of them he was sick again.. His voice has changed and it's hard for him to talk.. He sleeps a lot but I can't tell if that's from his throat or his heart.. He sleeps 98% of the time.. It's been like that for 2 or 3 months now... Out of breath yes but again I can't tell if it's from that or his heart.. He's not coughing or spitting up blood.. He did quit smoking we both did.. He has been smoking since he was 13.. So stopping is huge for him.. We stopped in Jan.. Of this year.. What I would Ike is if everyone reading this could you please Pray for him.. Living life without my husband /best friend is something I'm not ready for.. I'm not ready for good byes or the thought of our son no longer having a father.. Even if he's 23 years old.. please think about him and we'll wishes.. Thanks ❤

Thank you for posting these videos. Like you, I have oropharyngeal cancer (throat cancer), but unlike you, I will have to do radiation and chemo at the same time. Did your doctors score your tumor? I have a T4-N1-M0, which means the tumor size is a 4, only 1 lymph node is involved, and the cancer has not metastasized anywhere else in my body. I will have daily (weekday) radiation treatments for six weeks and weekly chemo treatments. I may do a similar daily/weekly update.
