Agree. Jon B really seems to be really genuine and humble and many artists seem too like working with him. Robin Thicke on the other hand seems to act like a douche and there are rumors going on that he's under investigation for sexual harassment after one of the models for the "Blurred Lines" video Emily Ratajkowski accused Robin of groping her and making lewd comments during the making of the video.

What happened to Jon B is what happened to Carl Thomas.. Donnell Jones.. Dave Hollister.. Etc... Music changed...r&b slowly started phasing out... Man do I miss the days of r&b... Love songs... Music is out of balance these days... Love Is missing... But I don't think his race played a factor because his cosigns were huge and his music still knocks... Put on "they don't know" right now and someone is gonna holler that's my sh*t! He still has a cookout invite... Always will.

I think the younger generation understand that love songs, Disney stories, romance novels/movie are pretty much fairytales. I often found it so disingenuous for these male rnb artists to be singing about love while dogging their spouses out. The type of love we see in movies and hear in songs doesn't really exist and most of us well NEVER experience.

@@jakemiles1427 that's fair... But cheating has always existed unfortunately... They were slicker with it back in the day with songs like, "me and Mrs Jones"... That song was about a dude cheating... In the 90s early 00s..there were songs about cheating.. But there were also songs about heartache.. About wanting love.. Needing it... Yes relationships are hard... People cheat... But don't let the world make u think people don't want.. Need.. Or believe in it. U have what u say... Love exist.. And we need it today.. Cheating ain't nothing new under the sun... The person singing the song has flaws like everyone else.. Let love lyrics touch your soul... Because if u can believe in love.. U can have it.. And u deserve it.

Wow, man, I always forget how Robin Thicke's father essentially got his "foot through the door", in terms of Hollywood. He's a 'spoiled' rich kid. And Justin Timberlake may have worked hard for years in *NSYNC; amazing dancing (Michael Jackson inspired)... but he is sort of the Diana or Beyoncé of the group. It was all for his exposure in the end, and biting off other ppl's styles like Jon B. That's not me saying they have zero talent - I was a semi-fan at one point - but after Robin's Marvin Gaye blasphemy, and Justin being THICK(E) with Janet after Superbowl.... nah I'm not down... He's been around sooooo long but doesn't get the actual recognition he actually deserves...!! Unlike the singers nowadays get recognition like they "da best" or something. Not saying alot singers nowadays can't sing or rap. He & other artists deserve wayyyy more recognition. I'm name some artists nowadays & 90's era : NE, Boys 2 Men, Keri Hilson, India Arie, Eve, Joe, Big Sean, Rakim, Chloe× Halle, Jagged Edge, Normani, Monica and others. Just to name a few. Seems like they giving out awards to anybody. Platinum albums have nothing to with this. More credit is wat they deserve. Do you get my point..?? Have great night..!!

However, after a while the brothers was like hold up too many of our sisters are swooning over this cat. Real talk women that had man wasn't buying his music like that no more and that hurt Jon. It didn't effect me personally but my brother threatened to smack his girl in mouth if she listened to Jon's music..crazy yes insecure definitely but it happened it wasn't just my brother. So fan base was cut down by men that didn't appreciate their woman looking at Jon like a vanilla sundae that's part of it. And white women kinda labeled him as a mud shark so he wasn't receiving love from them so he just faded. That's the dirty truth..if I'm wrong he would still be on top. Jon B is like the male version of Sheila E in my opinion, honestly. Both stayed true to R&B and made songs that are classics and you can still jam to this day. “Don’t Know” is my jam to this day, I still play it, and for whatever reason, has a soft spot in my heart ❤️

Jon’s counterparts were Robin Thicke and JT. While they were pushing Robin, they pushed JT harder which is why he faded to the back. Which is messed up, Because Jon is the standard. He didn’t rely on gimmicks, he is an authentic r&b singer.

I love these videos so keep it going. One artist that I think you should profile on is former child star turned pop star Martika. Many music critics actually thought that she was going to be the next big pop star thanks to her #1 smash "Toy Soldiers". She even became one of Prince's proteges at one point. But after only a few years, she just disappeared from the spotlight. That should be a good story to see.

I don't think Jon B was a particularly outstanding vocalist but when he stayed within his range and kept runs to a minimum, he was quite competent. Have to admire that he wrote a lot of his own material and his talents as an arranger and producer are probably a little overlooked. His major strengths imo.
