So much love to the family of Ballymoss, to protect your horses from being stollen, please microchip them, keep surveillance cameras in your barn, always have someone on site to watch over, and use proper locks.

I forgot to leave my thoughts at the end! I personally think the horses were being watched by the sketchy guy down the road, who tipped thieves off to the horses (that currently had an order to steal), they came, took the horses, realized the three others were branded and drove them far away before dumping them. They later sold Ballymoss at that auction and the new owners realized after purchasing him that he was stollen but they never wanted to give him back and lose the money they'd spent on him. Comment what you think happened to Balllymoss, I'd love to know!

I agree, correct me if i’m wrong but did the auction sighting happen quite long after he was stolen? Perhaps they were hoping the searching would die down, maybe he pulled up lame etc. it’s just very interesting. Also what possibly could they want him for? Like you couldn’t breed him, i’m not sure how well he did showing wise and even then surely he would be noticed by people who would eventually flag it up to the family. Also as for the order to steal who would steal an old pony? Or 4 horses? it’s all very bizarre but certainly frustrating and very sad..

I hope U do more stories like these!! At a barn I ride at there was a gray horse that they bought and that horse was actually stolen and one day at a show they posted a picture of that horse on Facebook as some people do when your horse does well in a show and the original owner of that horse reached out to the barn and the barn have her her horse back so now she has her horse that had been stolen 2-3 years ago back! Also the barn had no idea this horse was stolen! We were all SO happy that the got reunited and it had a happy ending!

This makes me so sad. The family clearly loved and cared about their horse way more than people usually do. It makes me so mad that the one person who knew about the horse refused to give out any information. It's not even only about the horse, it's about the family getting traumatized and having their life torn apart. This is something that will affect Debbie and her parents for the rest of their lives.

My friend's mare was nearly stolen. Halarious part is that the CCTV footage showed the guy trying to catch her. Only one problem, she's a one person horse, and the guy left after being double barreled and charged repeatedly until he left. Totally out of character for that mare who was very well behaved. She wasn't putting up with that man's shit. 🤣

This is the only reason I agree with branding, Freeze handing or tattooing to be exact. It can save your horse when it comes to things like this, no one wants a stolen branded horse. I've had people scope my horses and I'm pretty sure the only reason they didn't steal them is because my grandpa came out with a gun and used his military voice on them.

What if the thieves brand over the branding if that even make sense ...😂
@mochimacaroon400
@mochimacaroon400 3 жыл бұрын
@@sgiiprizz7510 That isn't uncommon and sadly can lead to hiccups. But depending on when and how the horse was branded, you can see a visual difference between the brandings. This is why a lot of brands are fairly complex or are on multiple areas of the horse. There have been rebranded horses that have been found by brandings because the original brand was hard to cover up and a trained eye pick it out. I'm not saying to make a brand so complex your horse has to take longer to heal, I'm just saying don't slap you initials inside a heart xD give it something to stand out. Another pro tip is to double brand. By that I mean to get a tattoo and a freeze brand. Usually the horses registration and brand tattooed on the lip and a freeze brand on the body helps. Double the work for anyone trying to nab your horse. But I wouldn't recommend all in one go, give your horse time to fully heal between brandings. Over all, branding makes the horse 10× more work for anyone to steal. The more work that needs to be done = More time they can get cought and lower profit margins.

@@sgiiprizz7510 Also Never. Ever. Burnbrand. Not only does it have a high infection risk and take forEVER to heal, it also fades pretty quickly and can be easily covered up even by the horses own coat.

Agree. The best bet is a freeze brand and a microchip. Some horses don’t feel freeze branding at all and if there is any pain, it is short term. Compare that to suffering at the hands of unscrupulous thieves.

Edit; I love mystery stories... so this be nice to watch There's a story in German which is quite sad. A woman wanted to find for her retired horse a place where he can live his best life as retired horse with some other retired horses and geaze all day and be happy. She found a place that was saying they're like a retirement home for horses. She went over there, everything looked fine and stuff. The owner of that barn then asked her to sign a paper to sell the horse to her for 1€ , the owner of the establishment said it's only to make it easier should anything happen. The owner of the horse signed it and brought her horse there. For a couple of days she'd get pictures of her horse daily and it all seemed fine until all the messages stopped and calls were left unanswered. The owner then drove to the barn and saw that her horse was nowhere to be found. She tried to talk to the owner of the barn who rudely told her to go away. She did leave and found another woman who had the same happen to her horse. Till this day both women are seeking their horses eventho a man who picks up horses and drives them to slaughter said he knows that barn and they did sell them horses to slaughter - eventho on the papers of the retired horse it said clearly that horse mustn't be send to slaughter... Nobody knows where the horses are and more victims are reaching out about that. But nothing can be done because... well.. the barn owner always makes those people sign a Purchase contract and thus the ownership falls on the barn owner. These barn owners buy retired horses for 1€ and sell them to slaughters from anywhere from approx. 200€ - 300€ or more perhaps The owner of the reitred horse and the other woman I mentioned above did make I think a few documentations about the case to spread awareness, they even spread fliers for everyone to not only be warned but to hopefully give information about what happened to the horses or where they are, I think with evidences they would've been able to sue those owners of the barn for fraud - but there is no evidence as sad as it is right now.
@Jill_P
@Jill_P 3 жыл бұрын
Signing an agreement that gives up your rights as an owner, for 1€ no less, to a retirement boarding facility you are totally new to, in case "something happens?" Wow! That is one massive, NEON RED flag! ⛔ Even if these horses were miraculously found alive, determining ownership after signing such a document could prove to be an insurmountable task. Horses are only as safe as their owners are educated and have common sense. This is in no way to criticize the victims... It is incredibly sad, for both the owners and horses, that they fell prey to a scam.
@smol_lucifer
@smol_lucifer 3 жыл бұрын
@@Jill_P Honestly I wouldn't sign it becuase it is a clear red flag. But I think they just fell for the positive and kind facade the owner of the barn had put up. I don't know what went through these owners minds as they brought their horses there and signed that since it is a very weird thing to be made to sign a contract which bascially means the horse aint your anymore But I think at this point the owners only want to know what happened to those horses to be able to find closure.

I’ve had personal dealings with someone thinking my horse was their stolen horse and it was ugly too. The barn I was at our tack room was broken into 3 times and tack stolen. Now we figured out the tack was ordered to be stolen, about 3 years later saw at a used tack sale saw some of the tack. All the tack stolen was what all the 4-H kids were using, how did we come to this conclusion. Because the thief’s left all the high end Dressage tack, they took the tack of our 3 boarding 4-H people. I turned my car to a tack box on wheels. Now about someone thinking my horse was their stolen horse, that was a nightmare. The people who had the horse stolen, it was a 13 hand Paint Pony. My horse was a 15.3 hand Paint Horse, with papers. But here the thing that pony looked almost just like my horse. I had to deal with this crazy Dad who didn’t know the difference of horse to pony, just his kid that said there’s my horse. The farm the pony was at was just across the road from the big Horse Farm boarding I was at. Raleigh if you want the whole story of my ordeal contact, this was the nutshell version lol.

I guess if a horse was bought from someone that stole him, its possible another person rightfully bought a stolen horse. I have not a clue about the legal insanity that entails.

I definitely like the feel of this series. It reminds me of those videos where women will do their makeup and discuss unsolved murder cases. Only instead of doing your makeup, you're cleaning your tack, and instead of unsolved murders, it's unsolved missing horse stories. It's an equestrian spin on a pretty popular trend in the true crime community. Really sad that those people never found their horse. They clearly loved and cared for Ballymoss so deeply. I definitely admire their willingness to share their story and advocate for real change to help prevent things like this from happening to other people, and kudos to your for spreading this even further.

This reminds me of when I read in my local newspaper that two horses were killed. The owner found her horses dismembered and brutally stabbed, the other two horses that were also kept on the open stall were completely left unharmed. But sadly till this day they didnt find anyone, at least as far as I know. It was quite gruesome and shocking to even read about this.

My horse his name is Lakota he is a 17.2 hand holsteiner anyway so we were at the barn we were keeping him at the time, the previous owner came while we were feeding him the crazy girl came up and started hitting my mom with a lead rope. Lakota started rearing at the girl swinging the lead, and the girl go my horse, and took him to her horse trailer put him in, and started driving away. My mom called the police and luckily she was caught and went to jail.

Of course, an obvious exception to the "don't get your kid a pony" rule would be if the kid loves horses and has dwarfism, because those with dwarfism ("little people", of which a famous example is Peter Dinklage, the small Game of Thrones actor) never grow very tall and thus will not outgrow the pony. And such people usually have short legs too, so a pony would be easier to get on.

Bro this makes me so paranoid for my boys, especially Hank. Hes a Handcock bred horse (both parents were of the Handcock bloodline) and then others who would be very expensive horses if we had their papers. Our 6yo, Cash has papers, but the guy who has his dad (who is apparently famous idk he wouldnt tell us more) but the people who bought his mom got her from a kill pen and then we bought him the week she foaled him. (Sorry if it sounds confusing I'm really bad at English) we would be worth like $25k AT LEAST because of his color and stuff and his papers, mom said the dude would only sell Cashes papers to us for literally $1,000,000. It felt wrong but ig makes sense with how Cash is even as a green baby. Im not gonna continue with our others but yeah. Im insalling security cameras everywhere now. I cant have my babies be stollen.

I love this kind of stories. When I was a kid I got a paper every month that was all about horses (for all the swedes, it was Min häst). It had comics and I remember one time thre was a comic about a girl buying a horse and was told that it was sold because the owner became afraid of riding (from riding another horse). Later the girl was at a competition with the hors and another girl confronted her saying it was her stolen horse. In the end they confronted those who stole the horse and they other horses that they had were returned to their rightful owner. the original owner did not want their horse back because they had a new horse. Tho they stayed in touch.

I know this is 2 years late a response but i'm just now watching the Series. I personally am SO MAD at the woman who called at the end. Like ok, so you didn't call to actually help, you just called to rub salt in the wound. And even more it's so selfish what she did, because i bet you that her knowing it was a stolen horse was sitting on her conscious for a while. So she only called to make herself feel better and did so in a way that the spotlight wouldn't go over her. She didn't call to help the family, or to help the horse. The only person that that call helped, was herself, and it just makes me so mad.

My sixth grade math teacher got her dog stolen. She lived in the country and they didn’t have a fenced in property. He had a doggy door, woods, and he had never left their property. They went in vacation and came home, that’s normal. When they came home, their dog was gone. They looked for him, remains of him, tracks of him, anything for months, and the only thing they found were nothing. Their neighbors were having a yard sale and they thought they saw someone on the property, but like wasn’t sure. They never did find the poor dog, and she was probably brought for breeding and profit 😞

At the time Reagan was president there was a horse at a local show barn the horse was expected to win the pre Olympic trials coming up within days at that time. The people went to feed the horses that morning and that horse had been beaten almost to death that previous night with a crow bar. Only that horse. The horses career was over he was hit 19 times on the head with a stabbing motion it had to be someone they new because the dogs did not bark

Thought it's sad that the family was never able to find Ballymoss I do hope that one day that someone does get in contact with them and tell them that they did had him in their family and most of all to the people who basically destroyed this family, fuck you this is all your fault! You brought pain on this family! Whatever happened to Ballymoss though I hope he did live a good life and has found Debbie's mom somewhere in Heaven where she is watching over him until he and her daughter can be reunited again. This is an edit to add cause I just thought of this. With them spreading the news of Ballymoss being stolen to the people at her school and the parents' work place anyone there could have been linked to the people who stole him. This the jerks were alerted and could have scent the horse off to be killed.

When I lived in Oregon years ago, I came across a 2 yr old sorrel gelding with what I was told was a smidgeon too much white to be registered as a quarter horse and yet not enough to be registered as a paint etc etc etc.?? He was a pretty, typy little guy but I could tell he hadn't had much handling. He was out in my front field one day and a woman pulled in asking about him. Turns out this colt had a pretty wild history. His sire was a qh with a recognizable name and his dame was a nice paint mare owned by a woman with her own history. What had happened was this. The colt was born with an unsatisfactory amount of white so the woman told the sire's owners he had died and she wanted a breed back. She was given the breed back but for two years the colt was shuffled around and hidden from the eyes of the people who had been at the birth or knew what she was doing and would recognize his color pattern. Happily, the colt went on to be on a search and rescue team and did very well.

My horses was ALMOST stolen from a stall at show when I was like 15 years old the only reason they couldn’t get him on the float was because he ( my horse) caused a big commotion because he wouldn’t leave my mare his bf my dad brought for him when we move from one adjustment property to our own acreage because he loved her so much we didn’t want to separate them So as he was trying to get chinook on the float he was rearing and neighing and just generally refusing to go any further so they were being very rough and hitting him luckily a friend’s parents recognised him and got in to a altercation with them the police were called but nothing come of it Never let him alone age if we were out We have multiple large dogs on our property no one is coming there without us knowing he is safe at home (he passed away years ago ripe old age of 28) Really really sad they didn’t get the horse back
