I saw him on "Mind Your Language" on "Gulf Times" (Now Al Jazeera) Made me laugh very much. Sad outcome, but understandable... Really heroic that he picked up a work as a Taxi driver after being so famous. (in my eyes) Bless the ones that was a good friend with him in ups & downs to the end.

I'm 63, i remembered falling in love with Barry when I was very young. I just thought he was so beautiful. I watched anything he appeared in, he was an amazing actor, a talent that was never appreciated, I loved his voice, his facial expressions and simply how he touched my heart. Present day, Jonny Depp reminds me of Varry so much, especially when he smiles, if only Barry had been born later, I'm sure he would have fulfilled any ambitions he had.As for the lad mentioned in the documentary, I have my personal thoughts on that one, suffice to say, I hope his conscience never knows peace.Barry Evans, wherever you are, you are missed, and still remembered, you are a star, and will shine forever more.Inger.

he was a phenomenal actor, his comedic timing was perfect and his charm was something that has stuck with me since I watched him as a child in the 2000s to present day. It's truly baffling how he wasn't able to land better roles, he would have done them great justice. Although sad, there's a lot of beauty to Barry's story. He was all alone since the start, and everything he achieved he did on his own. I find his story so heart-wrenching, but it also makes him so human, relatable, and likable. I rarely ever get so invested in a celebrity's life but something about Barry has always drawn me to him, i keep coming back now and then to see if new info has emerged about him because he's just that fascinating.

Remember reading an article about him in the late seventies when he had been off the scene for a while and he was working in theatre, Reading between the lines it seemed as if he was having his problems even then. Did not know he was an abandoned kid though. Makes me think of my late dad a Royal Navy veteran. He allways used to say to my brother and I,'You two dont't know how bloomin lucky you are'. Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush was a brilliant film of its style capturing the late Sixties period so well. Can't believe I found this by chance just moments after trying to remember the cracking song and film The Mulberry Bush. Went to see it as a child and he was one of my first crushes along with Paul McCartney (same birthday it seems!) . Great to learn so much about him right here... 💘

An amazing video. Thank you. Poor Barry. We all loved him but he didn’t seem to know it. He was a superb comic actor with some of the best timing I have ever seen on British television (right up there with Ronnie Barker or early Hancock). Even surrounded by our best comic actors in the Doctor series, he stood out. But coming from the most humble of beginnings he never had any resources to fall back on. And he made that classic mistake (one I have made myself and which still makes me cringe over twenty years later) of turning down an engagement renewal. Producers never forget or forgive that. The last thing they want is a leading character not coming back in a series. Not only does it harm the brand but it changes the dynamics and has to be explained away to the audience (who may not forgive the loss of a favourite charter).

Such a shame I really think if he could of just hung on a bit longer things would of picked up for him but he simply had enough of bad luck, he was very talented and deserved better. God Bless Barry.

Such a shame what happened to Barry..such a good looking, decent, well spoken gentleman who played some really good roles especially the FE ESOL teacher in Mind Your Language..his life started and ended with loneliness but fair play to him for putting himself out there and doing his best to get roles..thank you Barry..still miss you..rest in peace my dear friend 🙏🙏

@Mark Mahoney - I am so pleased this popped up in my recommended list. As a young teenager, I looked forward every week to Doctor in the House and Doctor at Large. I always wondered what happened to Barry Evans. I think Richard O’Sullivan went on to take over more of a lead role in the Doctor sit-coms but one could never use Google in those days to find out where Barry had gone. Without doubt, he was everyone’s favourite. How sad that he turned down such a wonderful income to stay with the show and then tragically end up impoverished and out of work. So very sad. I used to live in Swiss Cottage but never spotted his blue plaque in Buckland Crescent. Rest in peace Barry. You are never forgotten, not in my house. Regards from Northern Ireland. ☘️

Excellently made, thorough, this piece of work is one of integrity, deep emotion and clear explanation. It is definitive, as reflected in the viewing figures. Thank you for this. It is clearly a story of success followed by tragedy; the squalid eventuality of Barry's life is disturbingly inconclusive. One may wonder if the outcome of the police enquiry, and the enquiry itself, was to anyone's satisfaction. Unresolved! Deeply disturbing. Barry brought pleasure to many millions and may he RIP.

George Layton was asked about Barry Evans on a Talking Pictures interview. The things he responded with is that Barry was a very strange chap and I will save the rest for my autobiography. My uncle worked at the same hospital where ther Doctors series was filmed, he used to meet the cast a lot and he mentioned that Barry had lots of odd traits and personality. My uncle enjoyed talking to George Layton when the cameras were off and mentioned he is very down to earth. My uncle told a few stories about Geoffrey Davies and he was not a nice person to be around.

Always wondered what happened to him as I always enjoyed his comedy work in particular. Really quite shocking to hear he died in 1997, so long ago now. I only ever knew the characters he played and never knew his real name, but now I do and will never forget it. Keep up the good work with these videos, we love them.

He was such a nice kind and talented actor I still can't forget that episode where he said I was left at the foot steps of an orphanage and hence the name Jeremy for the sitcom but just such a sad thing that people go unappreciated with such huge persona's to be remembered when they're gone alone and depressed and without appreciation, May your soul rest in peace Barry Evans you were an icon of our childhood we will remember till we die

I was in a shop on Sapcote Road in Burbage by the till by the door one summer night about 1996 and he came in the shop ...the night before I had watched Adventures of a taxi driver. I had to double take to realise it was Barry Evans in front of me who was the brilliant star in the film from the night before. As he left I caught up with him said I really enjoyed the film and would be nice to see you back on TV. He said I would love to be ...but it was up to me mate. I saw him a few times in Hinckley and Burbage and he always waved when I acknowledged him. When he died there were many many rumours around Hinckley with people my age on what happened that night and how he died...but as we know the truth always comes out if there are enough people involved.
