From what I understand, the "Bedrock City" name was licensed from Hanna-Barbera to the people who owned the property before the current owners. The terms of the license were that it would expire if the property changed hands; when the Raptor Ranch people bought the property, they were thus not allowed to continue to use the "Bedrock City" name. Great video, Adam!!

they should have changed it to something like bed o' rock city.

Well Warner Bros. owns the Flintstones along with other Hanna-Barbera ip’s so when the current owners bought the property they couldn’t use Bedrock City because they would have to talk to Warner Bros. to have a license deal to use the name and the characters.

He literally explains it in the video... no legal issues they were going to bulldoze it and change everything but new owners decided not to... I dont understand why they would give the stuff away and change it there is literally nothing else that would be cooler there. The new owners are now going to update and redo it for bedrock aka raptor ranch and a bird sanctuary

My husband and I were on our honeymoon in 1987 when we stopped to visit Bedrock City on our way to the Grand Canyon. The manager told us they had a license to use the name that would terminate if the property changed hands.

I was there about 20 years ago on my honeymoon. They use to have a Bedrock Movie theater that ran super 8mm movies of the Flintstones on a loop. The picture was very dim and the sound dragged. It was absolutely wonderful!

So that's what it was for! Me and my friends (age 21) live in AZ and visited here on our way to flagstaff. I remember we passed by the movie theater, and the door was open. We went inside and it was pitch black and rather creepy to be in. We saw the various chairs and saw a sign saying it was meant to be a theater. Even with the beat up look it has now I have always loved this place and may visit again if it's still there.

I remember the movie theatre from my visit long ago. I was waiting to see it once again during the park visit. There were long stone benches for seating. The picture quality was fine, so I’m guessing that I predated your visit.

Why are the younger generations so disconnected from the past when they have parents. Is it because of being more sheltered and protected from older media? Is it having more entertainment options like video games and video-on-demand?

Honestly, this portion of the state is... Bare. It would take millions of dollars to turn that into a profitable place, because it would need to be the attraction that brought people in, but The Flintstones don't have the market value to return a profit. It would need to be turned into a golf course / Waterpark / dining and entertainment venue. I agree that it would be awesome, but not financially viable

It is winter here in November so fewer customers, but still open ...COVID shutdown of the Grand Canyon has, like every where else, hurt business in this rural area ...there is continued clean up of this little park just purchased in 2019...believe it or not, people of all ages, many here when they were children, love returning for nostalgic reasons...some of it will remain as new activities will be introduced...Stinky is a pet and loved and taken care of by the owner...her name, she has had that since she was born...it is and will continue to be a great place to visit...much clean up has been done, including the gift shop...many food items, drinks and snacks are now available and a restaurant is coming in the not far distant future...the birds of prey you see are all flown and have their own place to live...when grouped together they are tethered to protect them...these are trained falcons and hawks that still get to fly free ...

When I was growing up, there were two Bedrock City theme parks in British Columbia, and my family would go out to one of them (in Kelowna) every year for vacation. They were actually really cool... The fiberglass and cement architecture was dead on. For attractions, there was a little train, a canoe ride, Flintstone go-carts, mini-golf, a theatre showing Flintstones cartoons, quarry playground, and costumed characters. Unfortunately, both are defunct, along with all the other cutesy roadside theme parks in the Kelowna area. Fastforward to 2008 and my first trip to the Grand Canyon... I had no idea this place existed, so when I found out we adjusted our plans a bit to see it. I was freaking out (in a good way), when we saw the sign and the façade, because it was so close to what I remember. Then we stepped through that door and... Oh man... I had to explain to my then-girlfriend how the Bedrock City I remember was nowhere near that ghetto. I was mostly apologizing the entire time >_

If this was a "free" Los Angeles attraction it would have been looted and destroyed with graffiti and bums more than a decade ago. If this was *IN* Los Angeles it would have been bordered off, the line would never move, tickets would cost $75 per person, and parking would cost $35. And after all that it would end up being the same disappointment Los Angeles as we know it is today. The way it is right now is much better :)

I sit on the train behind Steve Martin in a black cowboy hat. Steve was a prick. John Candy was a blast while we waited on the set. I almost got to do that bus scene.

I'm 47 and my parents brought my brother, sister and I here as kids! We loved it! And when the characters were still there they actually talked to you! They had some kind of speakers where someone, somewhere was watching and interacting with people! It was awesome! What went into the volcano was a small Bedrock train. We went in the summer so it was very hot so when we came down the dinosaurs slide, we burned the heck out of our legs! My oldest two kids were lucky enough to experience Bedrock City too. It wasn't as cool as it was when I went as a kid but they enjoyed themselves. I drove past in July of this year on my way to the Grand Canyon but had no idea we could still visit! I will definitely go back!

There is a Flintstone 's in South Dakota, at least when I was little. Yours seems bigger, but the other one you can camp at. It's near Crazy Horse. Crazy Horse was not done yet, when I was there. Mine had a theater which showed Flintstone shows. The buildings were closer together. It was fun! That you for sharing!

My wife and I stopped in for an unplanned night at the RV park. The people that are running the place are very nice and have worked hard to get the Raptor Ranch up and going. All new RV hookups and fire pits. Even the gift shop and store are all redone inside. Bedrock City is pretty worn but we saw families with little kids having fun and even as adults it was fun for us to walk thru and talk about what it probably once was. Stayed two nights cause they had everything we needed for us to enjoy. Pizza too! 1-15-22
