Cool fact about Smokey and the Bandit was that the actors didn’t adhere to the written script and most of it was impromptu. That makes the characters so enjoyable and shaving Jackie Gleason in the movie was brilliant.

my old pal Gary McLarty (maybe pal's too strong a word - associate is probably more fitting)? Designed, did all of the stunts for Burt's movies. Burt had him anywhere and everywhere Burt went. McLarty would not only designed spectacular, bloody, dangerous stunts - but he'd then PERFORM them. Greatest "stuntman" of them all - not even a discussion about it. There were TWO directors on the set - the actual director (usually the great Hal Needham) - plus Gary advising Hal on how to rig a really-cool stunt at the end of a particular (Blues Brothers) picture. Animal House (Gary's the dude on the motorcycle going up the stairs - does that funny thing with his mouth). Gary came out of an Orphanage. Duke Wayne rescued Gary when Duke SHOT A MOVIE at Gary's orphanage. Super funny guy in every respect - .
