I have a theory: maybe Celestia and Luna gave up their alicorn powers and became mortal ponies. When they did this, they went to that retirement village called Silver Shoals to spend the rest of their mortal lives together before passing away. As for whatever happened to them in G5, they likely had their spirits merged into the sun and the moon while in heaven to make sure that the planet doesn't end.

I like the idea that there's a reason the sun and moon move on their own in G5. When Twilight was about to remove all the magic and seal off Equestria she realized that would stop the sun and moon in the sky. So Celestia and Luna volunteered to merge with the sun and moon and keep them moving.

I quite enjoy the idea of Luna relaxing in a resort town and Celestia traveling the world. And I agree on both of them giving at least half of their power to Twilight due to stepping down as leaders. I haven't seen much of G5, but it sounds like they had a great opportunity of a story, and they pooped the bed. It should have been done better. I think Celestia and Luna, and Twilight for that matter, are still alive somewhere.

I have a theory, but i don't know if it makes sense or not. But what if after Twilight stored all the magic in the unity crystals, celestia and luna gave their spirits to the sun and moon so they and control them without the need of magic. That's why they are gone and why the sun and moon can now move without any magic to control them in G5. But that's just what I think, don't know if it's cannon.

I like to think that Luna after the events that happens and she settles down, will probably have a cottage somewhere near a cave or something to hang out with bats and nocturnal creatures. And that Celistia lives near the ocean (or cliff that has a cave under it so she can be near her sister) so she still has the feeling of freedom. Either that or one of the other theories 😅

I'm not entirely sure that the alicorn sisters got their happily ever after when the pony races divided. I'd like to imagine that Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker at least got some slice of action. Who knows? Perhaps the alicorns are on a different planet or dimension. Celestia is no stranger to travelling through the mirrorverse. I don't think Opaline kept track of Luna or Celestia, or they would've been the first that the purple fire alicorn would target instead of the Equestrian ponies. I think with the alicorns went a lot of powerful magics including the Cutie Map, the Treehouse of Harmony, and others.

I think, that they were the ones who banished Opaline from Skyros. And since it is, where they are from, they probably stayed there. They, probaly still had parents and family there. I believe, that alicorns still age, but it depends on the amount of magic they have. Based of the age of human Celestia, I would say that Celestia ages 10 years of her lifespan, every 1000 years. Skyros could be a place similar to Themyscira, whitch is easy to leave but, hard to come back to. I think I heard someone say that, Opaline arrived in Equestria during the 200th aniversary of Twilights rule.

Luna's retirement never made sense to me. Luna only ruled for a few years - she spent most of Celestia's reign in exile - why did she "retire" after such a short reign? It makes sense for Celestia to retire after working the job for a thousand years, but Luna could have served out the majority of her thousand years beside Twilight. And I think Luna would have been motivated to continue ruling, so she could have stepped out from her sister's shadow.

I've been wondering about this for a while already. Luna said they'd both be chilling at Silver Shoals but I really like your take on Celestia exploring the world. She always loved the outdoors and nature. I highly doubt they'd age, even if they did possibly give some of their magic to Twilight. Which could explain how Twilight has gotten Celestia's build in a matter of 10-20 years, rather than having to wait a few hundred. Twilight should've at the most have Luna's build. I'm not saying Twilight immediately gained height after taking their position, if that's what y'all are thinking. Any how, I doubt Celestia and Luna are dead by the time of G5. I think when everything was beginning to go wrong, Celestia and Luna went into hiding. They possibly went back to Skyros for sometime but I believe they're *with* Twilight somewhere. *They're all three kinda in the same boat now, if you think about it. 1. That thing about Opaline being a unicorn comes from a story on Discord, and you don't have to take Discord's story as completely true. 2. Celestia and Luna may have retreated from Siley Holls, but when they found out Opaline was after them they returned to Skyros, and I don't think Opaline is stupid enough to face an entire army of Alicorns. They could have also hidden somewhere in Equestria. 3. Celestia and Luna could have died in the war that is presumed in G5 that even Queen Cally Lily mentions. 4. I don't think Opaline killed Celestia and Luna, because she never hurt anyone when she started her plans, which seems strange to me since she showed that she didn't need the ponies alive to remove their cutie marks.
