I really dislike that Scott killed off Shaw ofscreen between movies. It's like nobody learned anything from Alien 3. The dynamic between Elizabeth and David worked very well and thats why it's baffling they threw this out without any good closure

TO be honest there might be a lot of reasons for that. From the studio meddling to actors hating each other. We will never know.
@davyheijlands19568 ай бұрын
@@iguanatrader3781 I suspect both, this is what it makes extra sour. Screen chemistry is rare and Noomi and Michael had it in spades. I say this as an Alien and Prometheus fan when I say we should have gotten a trilogy focussed on the Engineers

Ridley Scott should endorse a writer to finish the shaw and david story arc in books. He left us all hanging like a jerk.

Disneys acquisition of Fox is the reason we didnt get a sequel to alien covenant which Ricley scott claimed there was a script written already, from what he said it would of been a movie where all the factions collide and war with each other.

Glad to know that the impression I got watching Covenant, that no one had any idea what to do with the main character of Prometheus, was on the money. What a waste of a character in a waste of a narrative. More thought put into 'how was she mutilated?' than 'how is she motivated?' When I saw The Crossing my interpretation of David's motivation to wipe out the Engineers was one of transferred rage. In Shaw he had found a reason to be invested in and empathise with a human. She would meet her 'god' and be heartbroken by their indifference or their antipathy. David would be unable to help her with an existential crisis. That he would destroy the Engineers for her, as punishment for their hubirs for having created humanity 'because they could', deferring his judgement on his own makers onto the Engineers. This would be his 'gift' to her. It would fracture their partnership irrevocably and highlight that David's though processes are both divorced from human and yet motivated by emotions his creator refused to see he possessed and as a consequence ill-prepared him for. Instead we got what we got. Some asinine overture towards a Gothic Horror villain. He killed her, off screen, coz 'reasons'. Reasons which the creative team put less thought into than they did all the myriad, painful, humiliating ways in which he killed her. Certainly highlights Ridley's creative priorities. Fantastic video man.

I think the main reason is the studio wanted to get to the Alien faster and they skipped the first sequel idea, which was Shaw and David on the planet. Guess they got cold feet after Prometheus got lambasted online, including Shaw (that's how I remeber the comments to be like after the release - was qiote toxic really). I do remember interviews with Ridley where he said that was the first idea but it got skipped ahead. The "Paradise" story was to be a sequel-prequel to Covenant but that died after Covenant did not do that well. Then the final prequel was to be the Covenant Sequel. To put it short, the release timeline was to be: Prometheus>Covenat>Covenatnt prequel and Prometheus Sequel - the Paradise one> Final movie to close it all off.

I think for us, people who actually enjoy prequels and all the weird lore they brought to the franchise, fate of Dr. Shaw became something of a Space jockey on its own

I hate how they just discarded Shaw in Covenant. I didn't expect her to have a happy ending but its such a letdown to have her not even appear, except in a glorified trailer released on KZbin prior to the films release. It's like Covenant is the third part to a trilogy we never got the second part of.

David is an extremely interesting character. I wish we could definitively know what happened to him.

I liked Shaw a lot. She should and could have been a very good example of how a female character can be strong without showing them beat up four 250lb men with karate chops and flips.

I always liked the mystery behind what happened to the character of Shaw, allowing myself to use my own imagination with the pieces of information we are given, like David's drawings. I'm a big fan of Covenant, though taking away the character of Shaw like they did, does make it feel like a slight detour of what they may have originally planned for the continuation of Prometheous. But its the focus on David and his motivations/desires that I found really compelling about the story.

While this is a great angle to pursue, this storyline would have been more fitting in a Bladerunner movie.

"Alienated: Inconvenient" is an abomination, they kinda went the "Disney-SW Nonsense-Bullshit Non-Canon Sequel-Trilogy" way, everything that's important was flushed down the crapper. To be fair, the technical aspect is good, visualy it looks good, the sets, effects, costumes, camera-work, but that doesn't work when it went full braindead. Incompetence nearly killed this franchise, and by that I mean the brutal studio-interferences.

The only complaint I had about the David’s drawing book is the fancy calligraphy 😂 I’m shit at reading that , and I couldn’t very well take it to my grandmother and say “ Oi Grandma can you read me this ? “ she’d probably have me exercised for demon worship

At first I hated how they treated Shaw, but now I think it was very well put from the story perspective. It helps I like Alien 3 I guess! Alien films are gloom and doom and in my humble opinion this is their strength, no sappy crap or marvelization.

I don't like the bit where Shaw revives David it's silly and does not make any sense
@Lighthazzles7 ай бұрын
The designer saying all speculation on Shaw's fate should remain unexplained and open to interpretation is bang on. Everybody needs spoon-fed explanations for everything these days and it greatly negates imagination and anticipation of any new Alien stuff. Bring back the Alien Universe mystique 100% I say and let the silly fanboys weep. After all, the themes in Scott's, Giger's and O'Bannon's concepts were ADULT in nature. Let's get back to adult horror.

To me this movie is the victim of editing, it could’ve done with an extra 20/30 minutes in the Necropolis I love and hate this movie just like Prometheus… if only Alex White could write an Alien script, they seemed to have figured a way to connect the prequel elements to the original era very well
