If you died TODAY, where would you be spending eternity? Have all your sins been forgiven or are you still hoping that you're a good enough person to earn a spot in heaven. The reality is that no one can earn a spot, our sin disqualifies us. But the God news is that Jesus paid for our qualification by dying on our behalf taking the punishment that we deserved. JESUS said, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son; that WHOEVER believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." - John 3:16 Nothing is more important than your eternal destination. Please, don't say, "When I get older I'll get right with God' or 'I'll get serious with Jesus one day when I'm ready.' Don't wait any longer, today is the day of salvation. Get right with God today, for tomorrow very well might be too late. We invite you to REPENT and accept that Jesus Christ is Lord of your life by praying this simple prayer out loud right now... 'Heavenly Father, I turn away from my old life and repent for my sins. I believe that Jesus came for me, that Jesus died for me and that Jesus rose again for me so that I can be forgiven and receive eternal life. I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life from this day. Through Him and in His Name, receive the gift of eternal life. This rule was egregiously used in an olympic semi-final women's football match in 2012 between Canada-USA. The keeper apparently was warned previously and kept holding onto the ball. Also, a Canadian player stomped on a US player's head earlier in the match so maybe a bit of karmic justice.

@@cltmckCanada was also significantly lower ranked than the USA, which makes the whole situation suspicious. Also, from what I remember, the USA keeper was usually holding the ball longer than the Canadian one, and in that specific instance was the quickest either of them had released the ball. There may poetic justice somewhere there, but the referees definitely made a biased decision on that play.

Learned this rule even when I was doing my certification for basic travel/premier refereeing. Always made sense as one of those “you’re probably never going to need to use this rule, but just in case some rare misbehaved goalie is stalling or giving you lip about it, you’ve got an actual rule you can reference to justify putting a stop to it” and like the video said, it’s usually a one-off thing that doesn’t happen again, removing the need to ever implement the free kick

There is a rule that it's actually *never* been applied: dangerous play can (and very often SHOULD) be whistled against the player who is going to a challenge with the head. The rule explicitly states that the free kick can be given against the player who endangers their own body, and yet it's never been used that way, although it should. Headers have no place at hip-height or lower. Don't put your head where it can be kicked, because it is football, and the game is all about bloody kicking. Players want to take care of each other, but don't put your HEAD where it can be kicked, for god's sake.

I feel that this rule should definitely be enforced far more strictly because a lot of games are slow now thanks to keepers flopping onto the ground and killing all the momentum in the match

I remember this being introduced and always have it in the back of my mind. You often see goalies drop the ball to their feet (at which point it no longer counts) - before this rule, they just held it in their hands forever until people started kicking off. At least by them dropping it, any attackers force them to kick it away

I've actually seen it apply quite some times. I've been watching football for +25 years and I can defintely see that it's been quite a while since the last I saw it being used. It always makes me angry when some goalkeepers do it to loose time when their team is winning

Whenever I used to play football with this one kid who’s dad for whatever reason told him about this rule, he’d apply it as soon as he’d start losing. After a while we just started agreeing as we would normally but then would snipe the ball at him as hard as possible and continue on with our game. Moral of the story, don’t be that kid

Sometimes it’s ridiculous that they can hold it for like 20 seconds. We definitely need this rule to be enforced. Maybe give more seconds, but damn, anything above 15 is way too long

I ask you to fill me with the Holy Spirit and lead me for the rest of my life. In Jesus name - Amen. 🎉

Another rule thats very rarely applied is obstruction, if you run the ball into the corner and continuously shield it to waste time that should in theory be obstruction as there’s no attempt to play the ball from the attacker. But refs just allow it for some reason.

What? Obstruction is stopping/impeding an opposing player from getting to the ball without the attempt to play the ball. Like if player A is running toward the ball and player B steps in front of player A with no attempt to play the ball (like a screen in basketball) that’s obstruction. What you’re describing IS allowed. Because both players are fighting for the ball.
@sususegar
@sususegar 10 ай бұрын
That's not obstruction. Clearly you're being bitter that it's been done to your team before. It's still considered as playing for the ball, as the teams attempt to respectively retain/regain possession. No one is sitting or laying on the ball to prevent anyone else from legitimately challenging for the ball.

Conversions in extra time to decide a game, rather than penalties after is my idea. The defending side has to allow free passage of the ball towards their net when a free kick is awarded in the normal way for a normal foul. If the ball enters the net it only counts as a point, and the points only count if no goals are scored in the conventional way during the normal extra time. Goals scored will always trump conversion points.

In amateur football teams are constantly reminding the refs about the 6 second rule. Also there's a rule that the goalkeeper cannot drop the ball and start to dribble with it, then pick it up. You never see that penalised in professional football, but professional keepers never do that.

Until 1997, the rule was that GKs could only take 6 steps while holding the ball before they had to release it. As backpasses were also allowed until '97, GKs could basically hold onto the ball for an infinite amount of time (apparently it took 100 years for players to start adopting this method of gamesmanship before new rules had to be introduced)

I remember when it was introduced to replace the old rule which restricted the number of steps the keeper could take while holding the ball. Time wasting is one of the things that make watching football tedious,so I would love to see this rule enforced more regularly. I generally don't understand why football is more or less the only sport that treats its rules more like suggestions and eyeballs a lot of the game's aspects. Imagine if basketball games were officiated like football games, the shot clock would be useless, buzzer beaters wouldn't exist, it would be general mayhem.

Back when I played in the lower leagues it was so much focus on this it was insane. The other team was often standing with stop watches to tell the ref immediately when I passed the 6 seconds. Sometimes it was really difficult to get it out at 6 seconds. You stop a shot with a diving save. Once standing up 3-4 seconds was already gone, then all the other players had to get to their positions or at least out of our half. Then finding the player that was available wasn't always clear. If you changed your mind while trying to pass it was even worse and the objection from the other team was astunishing. It was a nightmare untill the ref started to get more relaxed about the stupid rule. I got a few free kick against me the first year after it was implemented but I don't think we ever conceded a goal for it.

The backpass law changed this law somewhat. Most keepers will handle the ball and then drop it to kick it... once dropped they cannot pick it up again; so the 6 second law was introduced in 2000 to replace the "four steps law". Keepers very rarely hold the ball for 6 seconds, in fact hardly ever these days. And bouncing the ball is not considered handled control.

How about the rule where offside is completely broken as its counted from when the passer touches the ball and not when it’s actually passed meaning the passer can hold the ball on their foot and the attacker can then run offside and as long as the passer doesn’t drop the ball they can chip the ball up to the attacker in the offside position and it won’t count as offside.
