Here are some interesting facts; When the live action Ambassador Magma came to America and was shown on TBS as 'Space Giants', Ambassador Magma was called Goldar! In the original Japanese Super Sentai Zyuranger, from which Power Rangers was adapted, Goldar was named Griffozer, Scorpina was Lamia, and the two were married, and had a child at the end of the last episode of Zyuranger!

I think Goldar must have suffered from the same dumbing down that was forced on Lord Zedd, by the networks, because early on, it looks like Goldar is on the cusp of becoming even more of a formidable threat, than he was in the first season. Great video on Goldar. This henchman was one of my favorite henchmen in Rita and Lord Zedd group of minions. Loved the fact that you used his origin from the Boom comic series and yes I would agree with you that Silverback would have made a pretty good character in the show. Scorpina would be a hard one I'd think given how many zigs and zags her story and depiction take and seemingly contradicts one another. Execution by Zedd for failure in unused episode transcripts that weren't filmed, switching places with Black Dragon prior Shattered Grid/Drakkon New Dawn and being stuck in coinless world, removed from normal time via time travel in HyperForce, and being stuck with Lokar in Soul of the Dragon. Much like the Joker in Batman Scorpina likes to choose the multiple choice option.

From what I understand Rita took them for his constant failure. But I zordon said Zedd was Rita’s master. So I think Zedd had a decent understanding of dark magic he just chose other means vs Rita’s magic. I feel Zedd used some magic to either create new wings or cancel out Rita’s magic giving Goldar his wings back.

In Super Sentai Goldar and Scorpina are actually married, with Goldar unable to speak until Rita uses her magic to give him a voice. When I was a kid, Goldar was my favourite villain ever. He was strong, serious, and angry, the kind of guy who'd normally be a lone wolf anit-hero, and his design was flashy, yet cool and imposing. Then we moved and my parents refused to get cable again for like 6 years. The one time I saw the show during that it was when he was with Bulk and Skull, and I was appalled by what they did to him. One of the best side villains of all time, reduced to mere comic relief. And that show already had too many comic relief characters from the start.

Goldar scared me as a kid actually. There was a power ranger event where we walked around a series of hallways where power rangers kept joining our group and fight putties. At the last room goldar and rita repulsa took down all the power rangers so far then started walking towards me before the last ranger joined in and saved us. Good times.

Like how Rita and Zedd were magically corrupted humans (or at least, human-like); based on his armor and the armor that was shown in the BOOM comics Zordon and the other ancient rangers wore; I think Goldarr and possibly the others of his race had also been corrupted. If that is the case, then the positive energy wave released from the destruction of Zordon's tube would have purified him as well.

Season 1 Goldar was dangerously FORMIDABLE; and practically Rita's General! (Then, you factored in any time he tag teamed with Scorpina; or the time that he teamed up with King Sphinx. And lets not forget his one-on-one dual with Jason in the Dark Dimension...). Season 2 Goldar was almost as sycophantic to Zed as Finster was to Rita (understandable; since Zed had the ingenuity and drive to created HIS OWN monsters, there was little for Finster to do). Along came Rita's return to the palace to serve alongside Zed and Goldar was severely reduced AGAIN to nearly Squatt or Baboo! (Depending on which one Rito was supposed to be). Yeah; by now, the point is tired of being argued; but it was CRIMINAL what was done to Goldar...

Your assessment is how I feel. It's also one of the reasons I gave up on Power Rangers for awhile. I thought of Rito as Baboo because they have a similar body type. Later in the series, I thought Goldar acted much like Squat to the point of where I wondered why they didn't just use Squat and Baboo. Using Goldar and Rito for comic relief was bad but doing to a character like Goldar just made it worse.

Which Billy created. There are several episodes where the blue ranger dropped some science on the problem that ended up saving the day. It was the whole premise of MMPR: Rita and Zedd were magic and the old ways, zordon and the rangers were pro science and education, and science trumped magic every time

Funnily enough, That concept of Goldar and Scorpina dating was ACTUALLY turned into an comic! There Scorpina and Goldar are sent to earth on a theme park IIRC, and the two at first wanted to have nothing to do with it, but they got really into it and in fact, helped defeating an attack from zedd while still being in disguise! I can't remember everything, since it is quite a while since I read it and I can't remember in which issue it was, but it definately happened!

I felt like the first season of MMPR was dark outta any season of power rangers. I wondered how Goldar lost his wings after the pilot episode, was it because of his lost to the megazord? For the new Power Rangers movie, it would be awesome to bring in Goldar's brother. Looked badass as Goldar was in the first season and id like to see a video on Scorpina! I liked her as a villain. Goldar is a classic and one of the greatest characters in PR history. Would be a travesty if he did die in the z-wave while Rita and Zedd are let off. I don't believe Goldar Maximus is actually the same as Goldar. I don't think Jason thought it was the same referring to Goldar as "the last one he faced". I like to think he probably reunited with Scorpina and Rito and living on Onyx somewhere.

I was disappointed that Goldar got reduced to dust along with most of the Mighty Morphin faces, when Rita and Zedd got spared. I guess I just saw Goldar as being more of a character; his propensity for doing evil was of course great, but considering the tone of Power Rangers in Space, and the kind of being he becomes when he loses his memory, I can't help but feel like Goldar being bad was just a product of his environment. I don't know; I guess it feels a bit harsh to consider that a character who had been around since the beginning, and always had to defer to orders from their _clearly more evil_ overlords, got dusted while his bosses got redeemed. It just didn't seem fair.

Zedd took them at some point

When Zedd magically restored them at the beginning of season 2 it was implied that Rita had magically stripped the wings off screen for his failure some point after Day of the Dumpster. In the Boom! comics this stripping scene was graphically depicted with Goldar's wings being violently torn from his back by Rita's magic.

I want to get into the comics, where should I start with?

Boom Studios doesn't have too many comics. There were 2 main series books. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was the first. Later on they also released Go Go Power Rangers, which did take place sooner in the time line, tho. Both series ended and were replaced by 2 new mainline comics. Mighty Morphin is the first, which focuses on the original team after Jason, Zach and Trini left and Tommy became the white ranger. Then there's Power Rangers which focuses on a team original to the comics, the Omega Rangers. Everything else are side stories.
