I was lucky enough to have been picked by Google to own Google Glass. I was a student in New Media at UMaine at the time. I really enjoyed it... for the first couple of months. Then there were issues. One, I have prescription glasses and to get those cost more money, that I didn’t have. Two, yes, the battery was ridiculously bad. Three, the audio was really weird, basically it vibrated the noise against your skull and that’s how you heard. Four, it was too damn slow. Then, to add onto it, I dropped out of UMaine and my initial purpose for requesting them was no longer relevant. I think if Microsoft and Google were to work together on smart glasses (a love child between HoloLens and Glass) we could see something really cool that would be effective, and it might come this decade. I’ve always dreamed of being able to apply this kind of AR tech to things like air traffic control, it would help the guys in the tower out a lot with identifying aircraft. But this was exactly what you thought it would be: a prototype.

Google Glass-like products would have to compete with Augmented Reality (AR) glasses. AR technology is still very much in its infancy and not ready for prime time. AR glasses as a whole are also up against mature technologies like Virtual Reality (VR) headsets and to a lesser extent First Person View (FPV) goggles. The whole schtick of AR tech is that you can see everything in front of you plus whatever it is you're controlling or interacting with. Hence the "augmented" portion of AR. However, this assumes that potential users are willing to multitask, which is just not what you're going to be doing when using VR headsets. As for FPV goggles they're something you'd wear while flying a drone. I'm not sure about you guys, but I'm still a bit skeptical of wearing AR glasses while flying. As with VR headsets I don't think I'd want to be distracted when I'm flying.

@ErikVanRent3 жыл бұрын
However, in recent years things have changed a lot. Recording someone without them knowing is all too easy and happens all the time with many different options like smartphones, dashcams and action cams, just to name a few. A small battery and high price is something that also proves to be valuable. Still so many people are willing to buy devices with low battery life for a high price. Case in point: iPhone batteries still suck, price tag still high. I think Google was just some years too far ahead.

I feel the biggest factor was an issue on advertising and updates. I always heard it was coming out, and I never heard it was ever released, and after it was released I don't think I ever saw commercials?

These are too underrated I wish society would see face technology as a form of fashion.And the possibility that these could have with a 2021 twist( real time Artificial intelligence assistant,remote computer screen paring,battery technology,real time text translator,wireless charger,and more). I would just add a on/off button for the camera and Mic.

Ill give a quick review of my experience with my friend's google glass that I wore many years ago whenever we hung out... because it was funny. Call, picture, and sound quality were all terrible. There was no privacy to doing anything voice related. Even wearing them made our friends suspicious that we were taking pictures of them. One of my "friends" was my gf and yes it was easy to take naughty pictures discretely, but of terrible quality. The user interface was basically non-existent. Some of the minuscule number of features it had were not availlable making it even worse. You needed to focus away from anything you were doing to use the Glasses. So any positives were outdone by a simple smartwatch which would come years later. It was a terrible niche device with no redeeming qualities. Quickly dumped in the garbage bin by superior product ideas like the wireless earbuds or smartwatch. The whole idea was a product that could allow someone to take in more information than normal, and it was a complete failure in that aspect.

what happen is it was using bone conduction technology. These frames go over your ear and in that spot is the mastoid cell of your skull. There are two important parts to this. Part 1: There is part of your brain for language/speaking, what it does, it automatically sends a signal to your vocal cords to vibrate the words you want to speak, then you push air out of lungs and thats how we hear each other out loud. But if you dont push the air out, your vocal cords are still vibrating. It is vibrating on your bone, sound travels thru your bones up near the mastoid cell which is by your inner ear (you will not hear this or read this from anywhere else, I seem to say it first) your inner ear is picking up that vibration which allows your to hear your "inner voice." Your "inner voice" ( your are going to trip out on this part, I could not believe it myself) is your voice that you hear in your own head, that will be your voice out loud, your inner voice, your thoughts , your thinking, your dreams when talking in your dream not out loud and also when having a conversation with someone in your dream it is all coming from your vocal cords. Your vocal cords mimic sounds from memory and your vocal cords vibrate it in your dreams. Your brain can not hear with out your ears. so your inner ear picks up vibration and sends to your brain. Part 2: We all know that your brain leaks signals, when you get an EEG reading it picking up signals leaking from your skull, right? What ever you look at, the cones and rods in your eye creates a sign and sends it thru the optic nerve. As the signal travels thru optic nerve, it makes a physical connection with your inner ear. Now the signal for vision is leaking thru inner ear which is by mastoid cell which is behind your ear. if you place and eeg tab behind ear and modification to eeg device to have an video out put for that tab and with the right software, vision can be seen from a monitor. this was proven back in 1999 at UC BERKLEY. You can go to UC Berkley website for research papers from YANG DAN "how an animal views the world" www.berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/99legacy/10-15-1999.html here is video kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJXVg6eLa82aicU So that has something to do with glasses they would be able to pick up your vision and hear your thoughts......

I've noticed this as well. But it's like he's not sure which direction he's supposed too breath....in or out....but for some reason always does the wrong one? I'm sure very few people have noticed that. Glad I'm not the only one. And I don't mean to be petty....but that's why I'm not subbed too him and catch videos at random. I just can't deal that weird breathing thing. lmao. But hey, looks like he's doing perfectly fine without my sub and pet peeve.

I think nowadays they could catch on, providing they look more like normal glasses, and maybe if they had no camera. Or if they do have a camera give a clear indicator that it’s recording, like maybe a red light that others can see. And with smart watches being LTE now, glasses could be the same way also.

Apple can´t develop smart glasses, if Google Glass was $1500, the iGoggles would be around $12000, not many people would buy them.

I see Google Glass explorer editions for sale in the hundreds, My main interest in this is the Google maps feature where it is real-time tracking the road you're supposed to be on with it highlighted. I'm looking for some sort of confirmation that the glasses still work even though there are no more updates or are the glasses now just a brick and non-functional?

Why did they have to have such a long stalk over the the glasses themselves? Wouldn't it be better to have the display hug the frame more? It would blend in more if it didn't try to center the display so much, it would also have more space for stuff
