Crazy how Chinatown Wars failed so much. I really enjoyed it. Had some sick features aswell, especially if you were playing on the Nintendo DS. Stealing cars, looking in dumpsters and finding weapons or drugs to sell and more all while using the stylus on the bottom screen. Memories 🔥

I’m really glad we never got an official game that told the backstory of GTA SA. The mystery behind the untold stories keeps fans talking and helps the community grow. However, I wish they had included LS gangs but from different states, like a Balla set from Liberty City, to make it feel more realistic. I do love the unique gangs they created for each city, but a more authentic gang expansion would have been interesting. If they had made a GTA: San Andreas Stories, I would have enjoyed following the Triads as they fell and then regained their power with CJ's help. There’s a lot we didn’t get to see, like their fights with the Da Nang Boys, Woozie Mu getting his ''Gift'' and other gangs they could have met in different states or cities within San Andreas.

There is a mod called "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Stories - Episode 1: Los Santos Stories" by the Kishinev Group. This particular story takes place in 1987 and involves Brian Johnson. There was supposed to be a part 2 & 3, but those have yet to be developed. Either way, I'll totally check out this one.

Honestly, whatever the story might have been, we can all agree that another game set in the state of San Andreas would have been AMAZING. I still remember the days of people speculating that we are getting the San Andreas map in HD for GTA V, so I think that tells you how much another piece of art set in the fictional state of San Andreas was sought after. It was honestly all about the timing. The Xbox 360 and PS3 had come out and they only had a short time with the devkits to release GTA IV, plus they had a whole new physics engine and architecture to work with. Their team was only so big and even GTA IV ended up with multiple delays because of the problems they ran in to, and it was important to get a release while the PS3 was still somewhat fresh. After that they went straight to RDR, and encountered even more problems, and by then the PSP was pretty obsolete so there was no point developing San Andreas Stories. Near the end of RDR, it had been so long of a timeframe since another GTA, they had to start developing V, and the rest is history.

I always thought it would be fun to have a San Andreas stories game based on the guy in one of the earlier missions that says “Tenpenny set me up”. If I remember rightly, you don’t learn anything about that character. You could see his rise, and give him a great backstory, then explain how he got betrayed by Tenpenny. This is a character we don’t know at all, so you can do anything. Maybe start it in las Venturas, but as it continues he is forced to leave, then gets involved with the Ballas - but also meets Tenpenny along the way. Kind of a reverse of San Andreas where we start at Los Santos and end up in Las Venturas. Here, you could start in Las Venturas, then end up in Los Santos. Maybe meeting characters like Zero, The Truth and Mad Dogg along the way.

My take on it is we should play as Wu Zi before he was blinded and the events that lead up to it. A story about a young Wu Zi's rise to power, the struggles he had, and what ultimately made him blind would be more interesting plus the wider scope of his character arc would make better use of the map over someone like Sweet/Cesar who doesnt see beyond their hoods unlike Wu Zi who has grander goals. This way the story would have more focus on San Andreas as a whole not just Los Santos, we get to see a character before he is handicapped, we get more insights on how he accumulated his wealth to own a casino, and it would just be weird to play as Cesar/Sweet get rich asf in story then suddenly they're broke again by the time GTA San Andreas took place.

I always wanted to play as Brian before he dies and get to see CJ (when he was a busta😂) and Sweet with how their dynamic really worked. Could've played up until Brian dies then you takeover as Sweet once CJ leaves and have maybe one or two arcs left with a handful of fun and challenging missions. Then post-game as Sweet you start to see the downfall of the Grove from the Seville Boulevard Families and Temple Drive Families leaving to the rise of crack and hard drugs while heavy hitters like B-Dup and Big Bear drop they flag and guys like Big Devil & Little Devil end up getting killed. It would do so much justice to Sweet's character when we see him in SA as CJ. Because it always irked me how petty he was towards CJ even after all CJ did. So seeing how low they fell up close ending with their mother being killed would be perfect setup for SA. I don't care about Ceasar and the Aztecas or Mike Toreno nearly as much. They're solid dudes but not worth a whole game. Maybe Big Smoke or Tenpenny but nothing would beat Brian to Sweet imo.

What im really hoping for if rockstar even cares. If de turns out well and improve everything from models to missing features to even adding new features or making the game just more accessible. It would have been exorbitantly expensive to produce San Andreas Stories, especially if they wanted to keep all of the original map. We are talking voice acting, music, and an immense amount of map detail. That by itself would have presented potentially impossible challenges, but we are forgetting the elephant in the room here: Sales. You say a few times in the video that both the stories games were successful, and while you are correct, the amount of success is another story. Lcs was the best selling game on the PSP, shipping about 8 million copies. Vcs sold only just over half, at about 4.5 million. While they technically were full returns on investment, that indicated a downward trend. So not only would San Andreas be really expensive to make a stories game for, it was incredibly financially infeasible. Not to mention that GTA IV was already well under development by 2006 (Stories games were developed by Rockstar Leeds and North), and with only 2 years between VCS and the release of their most anticipated game of all time, a 1-year turnaround for 2007 to make sure it did not compete with their big title would have been insanely unrealistic and even more expensive. Now, I do genuinely think that if Vice City Stories had been more successful, If it had been able to sell more units than even Liberty City Stories, I do genuinely think that it would have made sense to actually produce San Andreas stories for the PS Vita, despite the new era of HD GTA games. The Vita would have been a lot more capable of a platform to handle San Andreas' map. I do not believe Chinatown Wars was harmful to any of those prospects because it was very obviously a gamble to produce an m-rated game on a platform known to primarily be played by kids (it's the same reason that GTA on GBA failed, it was a platform largely aimed at kids). It was really just too expensive and it just would not have looked like it would be a large enough success. Now one really has to wonder, since LCS was the highest selling PSP game of all time, could San Andreas stories have saved the Vita? It's an interesting thought. And you are completely off base saying that San Andreas Stories on PS Vita would have been too different from GTA IV because it would have been primarily released for a mobile platform which has its own audience. After Vice City Stories underperformed, I do not believe for a second that they had any follow-up plans for San Andreas Stories.

Well for San Andreas Stroies i hope for an aggressive protagonist that would experience the initial chaos of San Andreas such as facing gangsters and Tenpenny's corrupt police units in Los Santos, dealing with T-Bone Mendez and newly formed Loco Syndicate in San Fierro, working temporarily for the Mafia(Leone or Sindacco) in Las Venturas and have a good ending or staying low in Countryside after Final Mission

I still play my PSP. recently bought one and started building my game collection from years ago. it’s a great console. some great games. lots and lots of pretty crap low effort releases however. I believe so much more could’ve been done with it it’s a shame that it only had a brief time in the spotlight. San Andreas stories would probably not necessarily focus mainly on the GSF or any street gang It could have at least focused on someone else like perhaps a member of the Sindacco Family whose backstory is a bit similar to that of Tommy Vercetti, ie he got betrayed by his friend who is a brother of Paulie Sindacco. He could have at least defected from the Sindaccos and attempted to start a new life in los santos

I think San Andreas Stories would've easily dominated the market ESPECIALLY right after releasing IV, because all IV did for a lot of people at the time was make them nostalgic for III, Vice City, and San Andreas. The second I beat IV I traded it back to Gamestop and never thought about it again. I could never do that to San Andreas. Most of my friends felt the same way. I still come back to San Andreas every few years to this day. San Andreas: 9.5/10 IV: 6/10 San Andreas Stories: Would've been/this world

Honestly, SA Stories should be a sequel instead of a prequel. It should show what happened to all those crazy characters from the 3d era.

I’d would still buy it today with the 3d era graphics it would be awesome to see the city before the earthquake,the gangs, and especially Mike toreno, also the non existing big foot and end with CJ’s mom getting lit up ❤

Would’ve been cool to see a story about cj and the gang before he left town 5 years earlier and maybe the story could’ve been about what caused him to leave

Rockstar Games has made a prequel to GTA San Andreas, it's called GTA SA The Introduction. A short film made with the ingame engine showing the events that happened just days before CJ came back to Grove Street. Tenpenny and Pulaski taking Hernandez into the force, Big Smoke and Ryder talking about how they're betraying Grove Street, Salvatore making a deal with Jimmy for the Caligula's Casino and so on.
