It is fascinating. The failure of the Jedi Order of the Old Republic was that they refused to get involved in the Mandalorian War. The failure of the Jedi Order of the Clone Wars era was their all too willingness to get involved in the feud between the Republic and the Separatists.

Actually I think that if Qui-Gon had survived episode 1, he may have not agreed with the council to join in the war. That would be interesting especially since he would be training Anakin.

That's right, and Qui Gon Jinn would've taught Anakin Skywalker to defy the rules of the Jedi Order. This would lead a conflict between Qui Gon Jinn and the Order itself. Qui Jinn would know that Palpatine was the Sith Lord that orchestrated the Clone Wars and would expose him to the Senate.

@@jessemillan1385 there is a lot of speculation that qui gon would have been able to help anakin a lot more and train him in another way than obi wan managed. it was what 10-12 years difference between obi wan and anakin (something like that) so anakin most likely looked at obi wan more of a older brother than a master. qui gon also had run into some of the things anakin strugeld with like falling in love (if i dont remember wrong) so things might have ended in a different way, and anakin might have gone to qui gon instead of palpatine with the force vision he got about padmes death (That in the end was what pushed him over the edge, even though he was realy close some times regardless)

If Anakin agrees to fight in the war, I bet Qui-Gon will go into action if Anakin asks him too. This is because Qui-Gon trained Anakin to not allow his emotions to cloud his judgment every now and then.

Making the Jedi commanders of the GAR was a foolish decision that should have raised a lot of red flags. It would have been better to use them in a special forces role. Jedi Guardians would have made excellent shock troops. A small group of whom could have smashed open a hole in an enemy line with ease. Councilors could have served a diplomatic role in helping the GAR and the various planetary defense forces they often had to work with coordinate more effectively. And Sentinels would have been perfect for black ops. I could see Jedi Sentinels being permanently attached to various GAR Commando squads.

Don't know why but this made me realize the clone wars is probably my favorite era in Star Wars for the speculation alone as to how many different ways the resolution of the conflict could have changed the galaxies known future. I'm currently trying to picture one where Dooku lives by working with the Jedi and they just take the fight to Sidious sooner and defeat him but then where would that leave the CIS and Republic? Just one of a bunch of questions someone could ask. If anyone has done a theory vid on that or there's EU content on it then please and thank you do tell, if not then get on it Stupendous

I find it convenient that most of the Jedi that refused to fight fell to the Darkside. I think that a lot of them left the Order or found other roles where they wouldn’t be part of the war effort between the Battle of Geonosis and when the Clone Wars CGI stories pickup, because to me, too many Jedi presumably died on Geonosis, and I feel that more than just a few dozen Jedi would’ve protested or wouldn’t have wanted to partake in such a departure from their charter. That’s especially when compared to the Knights of the Old Republic era where the Jedi Order as a whole chose not to go to war against against the Mandalorians. That Order then branded those that did as the Revanchist. And after the War the Order considered those Jedi that took up arms during the War as,.. well they exiled them as they believed that they were all tainted by the Darkside thanks to their lust for battle. Meanwhile, everyone seems to hold that the Jedi Order of the Prequels and the Clone Wars era as to how the Jedi should be.; Dogmatic military leaders, quick to fight. As opposed to the monkish counselors, guardians, stewards of justice and avatars of peace from previous eras. Well, for most of the Order’s history anyway, except for their off and on conflicts with the Sith during the last few millennia. But, the nearly 20,000 years prior to that.

If Anakin Skywalker left the order with Ahsoka, they would already figure out that Palpatine was a Sith Lord. This would lead to the events of Revenge of the Sith but the movie will open with Anakin heading to General Grievous's ship to confront Palpatine before Obi Wan and Mace Windu would arrive and the three Jedi would fight both Palpatine and Count Dooku while Ahsoka would be in Mandalore fighting Darth Maul.

There were other force originations and users outside the Jedi that didn't fall to the dark side during the war, so yes, a Jedi could have resisted the dark side after leaving the order. Most likely it was the way that most Jedi were raised that would push them to the dark side. Being raised in a temple would they really have much experience with conflict? What about the sudden poverty that came from leaving the order?

I think that it’s simpler: if you are always told that there are only 2 ways and the way that you follow is shown to be corrupt, then you automatically become the other way. At one point sidious was quoted to be the dark side incarnate. Is it possible that this too was part of his plan? To create such a no win situation for the jedi behind the scenes? Sidious has always been a "join us or die" type of character and i feel given his exceptional skill and planning that it is quite possibly well within his ability to infect others with the force through nefarious means, giving the jedi no other option but to die on the battlefield or join the ranks of the fallen and betrayed

i would think there was a larger amount than what we know of that was aigenst fighting, but they might have been doing other rolls like heling to heal people that got wounded, help evacuating civiliens from the war, help getting suplies around and simular things. so they dident fight in the war but helped in other regard that would be more within the jedi codes, if a platoon of droids started to attack the refugees the jedi doing that would fight to defend the refugees and then shortly retreat from the battle when the refugees had escaped.

I can think of a few questions regarding the Jedi that refused to fight. I'm only familiar with the movies, TV series', and cartoons, so I'm certainly not as familiar with Star Wars as hardcore fans. 1) Is the cause of the war a just one, for the Republic? I would say no, given the corruption of the Senate. Even without knowing how Palpatine manipulated the circumstances to cause the war, it sounds like the Jedi were ordered to fight solely because he didn't want the Republic split in two, which sounds pretty selfish to me, at the very least. Honestly, I'm surprised more Jedi didn't refuse to fight, given how they claim to value peace. 2) Does the destruction done by the CIS justify the Jedi becoming involved, in the cause of defense? I can understand the motivation for the CIS to secede from the Republic, but that doesn't justify the actions of their military. If they were defending themselves or were simply neutral, but later attacked by the Republic, that's one thing. However, the military was practically committing genocide on a galactic scale. Given how few Jedi refused to fight, I would think they could have easily chosen their battles or where they put their abilities to use, in the cause of defense, rather than attacking CIS worlds. 3) What would happen if all of the Jedi did not enter the Clone Wars? Unless they were charged with treason or dereliction of duty, I would think not much would have changed. Even given how much the Force gave the Jedi the upper hand, the vast majority of the fighting was being done by clones and droids. Without the Jedi, perhaps more of the Senate would have been willing to negotiate further, though Palpatine could easily stop that from happening. The Jedi wouldn't have been spread out and sacrificed to the war, though I'd think Palpatine could still otherwise arrange the destruction of the Jedi Order. Still, if they all refused, they certainly would have stood a better chance of survival.

The idea that the Jedi weren't meant to be warriors never made any sense to me. Or that this behavior lead to them weakening their ability to tap into the force. Jedi of the old republic were absolutely a warrior class. They spent thousands of years fighting the Sith and never became weaker because of war. If anything it seems like they were immensely more powerful.

I think Jedi who left the Order during the Clone Wars succumbed to the Dark Side so easily because they were no longer surrounded by those of the light side. Even if the Jedi joining the war effort was wrong, they still tried to promote some of their ideals and beliefs. I suppose Jedi thus work better in communities than they do alone. Look at what happened to Jedi who survived Order 66. Even those that didn’t fall to the Dark Side became cynical until they found other Jedi or joined the Rebel Alliance. Also with the Galactic Republic and Separatist Alliance fighting each other, there wasn’t any big power to enforce law and order. Criminal Gangs and Pirates flourished in this era. Jedi would thus always have to fight to defend themselves. And since they would be killing more people than droids, they succumb more to the Dark Side. Now, I kind of have to disagree with saying the Jedi lost as soon as they joined the war. Yes, joining the war effort did play into Palpatine’s hands. However, not joining the war effort wouldn’t be much better either. Palpatine would paint the Jedi as uncaring in the face of atrocities. Sure, they could try to be a neutral force and since they would still be together, few may have fallen to the Dark Side. However, Jedi who have strong political opinions may break off to aid either side as the carnage continues. The Order might even get into a civil war between Jedi like Anakin who take a side and those who want to stay out of the war. At least being part of the war effort meant they had an inside look into the machinations of the Galactic Republic, not to mention they also tried their best to limit the amount of war crimes committed by the Republic. As a neutral force, Dooku and Palpatine could have both given orders for them to be targeted. The Jedi came pretty close to unmasking the truth, but they were just a few steps behind Palpatine and Dooku. And to be fair, the Jedi have had to have close relationship with the Galactic Republic. They even influenced its culture. But back to the need for this alliance, the Jedi had to spend thousands of years fighting Sith Empires. Sith Empires that didn’t just have thousands of Sith, but also millions of soldiers, hundreds of fleets, and so on. A Jedi Order unaligned with the Galactic Republic wouldn’t stand a chance. Look how easily the Jedi Order got wiped out when the Galactic Republic turned on them. Jedi are powerful, not god-like. Though granted, having an alliance with the Galactic Republic shouldn’t have meant they stopped keeping the government in check after the High Republic Era. If the Jedi wanted to be officially part of the Galactic Republic, they could have gotten senators to pass some laws making them act as some sort of oversight over the Senate. Though they would also need their own autonomy so they wouldn’t be tied down by red tape and bureaucracy. It would be a tough balance but at least they could actually have political power to stop the Senate from passing laws empowering megacorporations instead of just providing their opinion and being ignored.

I mean, it's only logical jedi who abandoned the order refusing to fight fell to the dark side - lack of marketable skills beyond waging war does that to a person. But TBH, jedi were less monks and more protectors of peace and in case of a defensive war best way to restore peace is to win it asap, in this context refusing to try to restore peace seems to be less about ideals of peace and more about selfishness and pride as you prefer a peaceful life when universe burns and are proud enough to leave jedi order thinking you know better. Seems like leaving the order was a clean gateway into dark side.

The fact that they all fell to the Dark Side seems like lazy writing and overly reductive. It's much easier to say that they all turned evil, instead of grappling with the philosophical questions. If a person is unable to remain with the Light side without being part of a specific organization, then I think that says a lot about the fragility of that philosophy and is probably a failure of it.

The clone war was 100% the fault of the treasonous jedi . If Obi-Wan Kenobi did not invade the planet of Geonosis , the jedi wouldn't have had to invade the planet and try to assassinate guests of the planets leaders. If Yoda hadn't brought the clone army to Geonosis , there never would have been a clone war . Then if Mace Windu didn't try to assassinate the Supreme Chancellor and seize control , then their wouldn't have been a reason to execute order 66 . Any jedi that refused to fight in a unjust war , was accused of falling to the dark side ( witch in itself was not a crime ) . But through the jedi's time honored tradition of religious persecution they were imprisoned or killed .
