I've worked in the mental health field for 40+ years. If she was unable to find work as a fully certified social worker, that's a red flag. Then when she finally got a job and didn't keep it, that's another red flag and a huge stressor. She might not have been diagnosed formally, but I think something was there. I feel bad for her and her brother. They didn't get the help they needed.

I totally agree as well. See had Master’s degree is social work. But was having trouble getting a job as well as unable to keep the job she had. 🚩 A lot of us go into the field of social work or psychology because we can empathize/relate on some level. That’s what makes us quite good at what we do. My heart does go out to her and her family for their loss. Very possible she was struggling with undiagnosed mental illness and/or started to “self-medicate” due to her being unaware/resistant of what was happening to herself. Her loved ones may have saw signs, but were in denial. Mental illness still carries such a stigma.
@jediping
@jediping 2 жыл бұрын
But she is also a millennial who graduated into a crashed economy and severe cutbacks in government-sponsored programs. If she was a web developer unable to keep a job I would agree more. But then there may be more openings for social workers than I’m aware of. We certainly need more, but my understanding was that there often just aren’t the resources to pay them. Would love to be corrected if I’m wrong.

My husband had a psychotic break a couple years ago, it was heartbreaking. He didn't know who I was and thought there were people outside our apartment trying to "get us". He took our cigarettes and dumped them in water because he thought someone poisoned them with arsenic.. His mom and I took him to get help and when he got better he was terrified I was going to leave him because of it.. that broke my heart a second time! Instead of leaving him we solidified our engagement and are still happy together today :). (and he is very healthy mentally too)

"She never showed signs of mental illness throughout her life" Well, schizophrenia is well known to lay dormant until it first presents in a person's mid 20s or later. Schizophrenia could definitely present at 30. Also, sometimes people just don't have anyone in their lives that understand and recognize symptoms of other mental illness, or don't want to accept it.

My ex had a psychotic break when he was 35. I knew him since he was 18, he had no history of mental illness at all. It is in his genes though as his mother is bipolar. He was able to hide it from everyone but me for 3 years, he just kept getting worse & refused treatment. He refused to see a Dr. but when I told a Dr. his symptoms he said it sounded like psychosis, which can mimic certain schizophrenic symptoms. He believed I called an organization on him & that me and all his family/friends were involved. He thought he was being followed everywhere he went, that there were cameras/microphones in the house etc. It was literally a nightmare. He started getting increasingly more manic, aggressive & violent. He started saying he was going to kill the neighbors because he thought they were the “headquarters”. I was so scared he was going to hurt or kill someone. I tried to get help from police but they didn’t do shit. Finally a few months ago he pulled a gun in my face threatening to kill me if I didn’t “give him names”, I managed to run to the neighbors, he came out shooting multiple times then banged on their door screaming & eventually left in his vehicle. Police finally arrested him about 45 minutes later. He was so not in reality that he didn’t even think police were there for him, he literally thought he’d done nothing wrong. I’m signing an affidavit for him to get treatment & medication because he’s extremely mentally ill & really needs help. He was not himself at all, it’s really cruel how mental illness can come out of nowhere & completely destroy someone and those close to them.

I think there's room for something between those two options. Being in the middle of a psychotic break doesn't preclude becoming the victim of a crime. Also, the fact that she wasn't seen after the video can be at least partially attributed to the fact that it was dumping rain, so fewer people were out and about. She may have gotten quite far, trying to hide from and escape from her delusions of being pursued, only to come to the attention of an actual assailant. It's possible. It's also possible that she got pretty far, and then, exhausted, tried to hide by the river and died from exposure before being swept in.
@naomiledger1374

I think this explanation sounds very plausible especially considering there didn't appear to be anything that obviously caused her death, as you might expect if she'd met with foul play. Her dog was back at the apartment though, I think Mike said, so does that mean she went out in the wet weather again, in those same clothes, later w/o her dog and then just took off? Seems a bit odd but anything's possible.

People can become extremely vulnerable during psychotic breaks. I am close to two separate people who were diagnosed schizophrenic, and both of them are lucky to still be alive. My friend was Rped, beaten and had tens of thousands of dollars swindled from her online. This is 100% due to the sad reality that people with schizophrenia will lose all trust for loved ones while suddenly deciding that they have deep connections with complete strangers because “both of them like music” or something trivial like that. I’ve got a long list to take care of. I just need to trick her into giving me the password for her instagram account.

I think she had an acute mental break. I’m bipolar 1 with pseudo-schizoid aspects and I developed it when I was 20. I can attest to the fact that it is more severe when it hits you as an adult. It was very sudden; I remember the day I started hallucinating and being paranoid, stuck in a bathroom at Miami airport. I was acting perfectly normal up until then. My family were confident I wasn’t having a break because I had never shown signs before, they believed I was in danger when speaking on the phone. They were wrong, it WAS in my head and I needed help. Thankfully, they got the right advice and had me checked out and all I needed was a doctor and the right meds. This reminds me so much of that. What she needed was a psychiatrist and medication. I’m confident there was no conspiracy. I hope her family is healing as best they can and are surrounded by love ❤️

This is Paranoid Schizophrenia. My mom was schizophrenic & she would often claim that someone was in our house or that people in restaurants were talking about her. If she watched someone giving a speech she would think that they were speaking to her thru code. This girl being outside with no shoes & wandering off is common. We would often find my mother in the driveway wearing her bathrobe & no shoes holding a knife. She would say that she had proof the Mexican mafia was trying to kill us. As a child I was terrified because she was so convincing. These things can be brought on by stress or by depression to people not even knowing that they suffer from it. My mom got on medication when she 53 & was fine until her death at 78.

I tried staying in my room and not talking to anyone in my house but it didn't help. I finally ended up telling my husband what was going on while breaking down in tears. I thought I'd be locked up in the asylum till it closed it's doors & left me behind. It was beyond bizarre there's no words to describe the horror I felt. I didn't get the best help either because I still don't know what happened. I was just given meds and the dr raised an eyebrow. That's it. I'm ok now, it hasn't happened again. The crazy part about waterways like this is that even a small amount of rain can raise the water level significantly. The last time I went kayaking down a river near where I used to live we had rain for less than an hour that morning and it was quite light everywhere but the effect that had on the river was immense.

Yeah, it becomes really dramatic in a desert environment. A crick can become a fast flowing river very quickly. The Jordan river gets very narrow in places and if the water raises up fast enough those areas can flow very fast. If the conditions were right she could have floated through most of those spots on the river.

One day he had a psychotic break, stole his mum’s car drove into some random town, left the car unlocked, keys in ignition, wallet on the front seat and walked for 5 hours till the police finally found him and took him to hospital. Two things have always frustrated me about the way the cops & media presented this case... firstly, in the footage it's obvious Kayelyn is wandering around waiting for - _and talking to_ - her dog. Ask _any_ dog owner about taking your pup out to the toilet.... _doesn't matter if it's pissing down rain - if your dog needs to go & the garden or grass area is nearby, you just grab keys & head outside._ You don't bother with shoes cause you figure you'll be quick, but then your pup decides that it's much more fun to wander around sniffing all the new smells the rain brings! So you wind up standing around for 10-20 mins getting wet & cold, looking like a crazy person because you're trying to tell your dog to 'go toilet' while they run around having fun instead... just like Kayelyn is in the video. Secondly, a usually dry area that has a sudden downpour is a perfect equation for a flash flood - and it doesn't even need to be raining where you are, just upstream. People are killed in flash floods every year because it catches anyone downstream (especially kids playing in storm drains) by surprise... a sudden wall of water that will break the banks of a creek or river & carve it's own way downstream, so those twists & turns in the creek map become irrelevant. If Kayelyn was down by the creek - regardless of whether she was having a mental crisis, looking for something she dropped while out with the dog earlier, or met with foul play - she could _easily_ have been swept away in a flash flood. If only they had looked to a flooding event carrying Kayelyn away & searched downstream earlier I'm sure they would have found her much quicker - and hopefully had far more clues to her actual fate. Instead they just stoked the fires of speculation and did Kayelyn & her family a complete disservice - RIP 🤍

Pretty much exactly what I was thinking on all points. Police can be extremely lazy. No need for further action.

@@yaxiyaali2094 where's the motive? The last person known to have seen her isn't automatically suspicious. Hopefully the police ruled her out as a suspect but it seems the police and the media went off on a tangent that Louder was depressed or deranged. It still doesn't explain how she was found five miles away in a body of water connected to the creek behind the condo. But then again the dog was found in the condo so why would she be back at the creek? Anyway, a sad story that will probably never be definitively solved.

She would not listen to me to leave the house while police came, she decided to stay in the room and kept telling this person to leave. I couldn't hear any response from a second party in the room. Police arrive and I can hear them speaking while she was on the phone with me still. The officer checks the whole house as well as under the clothing, he states "ma'am, there's nobody here. The doors are locked." She keeps stating "don't you see the man!? He's right here! Look, he's looking right at me!" Nobody was in the apartment. She had mental health issues and called multiple times that day for the same problem. I haven't finished the video yet, but that 911 really brings back memories of my experience.

I AM convinced that she was hearing voices that weren't there in her apt and running from things that weren't there in the video. She is at an age where you sometimes see a first major psychotic break. But, that doesn't mean that she wasn't assaulted or killed by someone later - even later that day. She would have been a vulnerable person and could have been seen by some sick f*$# as easy prey. Or, it could have been an accident. Difficult to say.

As someone that has a diagnosed mental illness and a sibling with a mental illness as well I worry she had a disorder that she was trying to suppress. The disarray of her living space in the photo was a sign as well as the inability to hold down or secure a job as well as her underlying genetics. The stigma on mental illness makes it so hard to come for help or to admit you can’t cope =which therefore makes you feel a burden to the ones you care for the most. Much love to her family✨

I’m similarly going through something like that now with my boyfriend & children’s father. We’ve been together 20 years & until about 3 years ago he had never shown any signs of mental illness. 3 years ago he first started acting manic, paranoid & delusional believing there was a conspiracy against him and that he was being followed & our house & electric devices were hacked/bugged. This psychotic break happened while I was pregnant with our second child. In the years since he’s become increasingly worse & constantly accusing me of being involved with an organization behind his back. He’s starting to get dangerous & violent, he’s very erratic, irrational & frantic. I don’t know what to do anymore. His Mother filed paperwork to have him admitted on a psych hold but they told me it would only be 3 days. He’s very intelligent & good at acting normal in front of other people so I know he would be let out & would just come back here & be even angrier & do who knows what. He’s threatened me multiple times. He’s blaming me for everything & why “they” won’t leave him alone. I know he won’t take medication & get treatment unless forced. I’m at my wits end & scared, I don’t know what to do.
@rmark1083
@rmark1083 3 жыл бұрын
@@hollyroxy25 it's not an easy thing for anyone to go thru. If theres one thing I could suggest it would be for you to listen to yourself and do what your intuition is begging you to do. To leave someone you love isn't easy. For your sake and that of your children and your husband, would be for you to leave and file for sole custody in family court. Ask the judge to give him a mental health evaluation. Judge will question you as to why, and all you have to do is tell him. My ex was very clever and good at hiding it. That only lasted until she did the evaluation over the course of 3 days. Nobody can fool that. Find a counselor you like and talk to them. Idk how old your children are but if they are old enough to talk, they should also have alone time with the counselor. Push for sole custody even if it's temporary. Your main focus now needs to be you and your children. You will sink with him if you don't get away. Things will only get worsev if you don't take care of yourself. It's mentally taxing on a level that most have no idea unless they been there. My ex accused me of being crazy telling me to see a Dr because whatever I was claiming to see her do, she claimed didn't happen. I was being gaslit and at that time I knew nothing of it. I thought I was going crazy and actually sought out treatment only to have my Dr reassure me I wasn't. Leaving him doesn't mean you don't love him. It means you love him enough to let him go knowing you can love him no matter where you are in this world. Leaving might be hard to even think about let alone do. More often than not, doing the right thing for yourself and everyone around you takes tremendous courage. After I healed from all that I wanted to help others. Without any experience besides my own I when up getting a job at a mental health rehab facility. If you ever need someone to talk to, you can message or call me at my Google voice number. (716) 406-7779. It would be my pleasure to help in any way I can. Hang in there, and take care of yourself.

She told the 911 operator that she was hearing voices but hadn't actually seen anyone and her roommate confirmed that no one was in the apartment and the deadbolt had been locked all morning. Sounds like the onset of schizophrenia to me.

sle2470 Honestly same. I’ve a family member who had schizophrenia and their mannerisms resemble that of hers when she’s wandering around the creek. Very fidgety, acting like someone is watching them/following them.

@@Shininanigans Yes, same here. I've seen my schizophrenic relative behave the exact same way many times. It's truly tragic that emergency responders didn't take this woman for a mandatory psych hold after her phone calls (and after her roommate said she believed Kayelynn was delusional). She would still be alive today if they had. Sadly, first responders (police in particular) have shit training when it comes to mental health calls in the US.

@@106gspot Very interesting theory! Shame this wasn't thought of at the time, they could have searched for traces of drugs around the house/in the flatmates possession. Or the flatmate could have been an accomplice to the intruders, bit more far fetched but I still think it's a good theory that the flatmate was involved somehow.

Absolutely a mental break. The phone call basically proves it. And her twin brothers story. This case fascinates me though. I do wonder how she ended up in the river though. Doesn’t seem likely that she was washed all the way from point A to point B.
