It didn’t actually fail because of it ratings, they were fairly good. I think it was because of the shows budget limitations that would explain why we never saw the show again.
@merlith46502 жыл бұрын
I mean it wasn't perfect, far from it. The writing was often horrendous and had practically no continuity. There are no character arcs and pretty much everything is isolated to episodes, where character traits or quirks will be introduced to be the "gimmick" of a particular episode and abandoned in the next. Not to mention the inconsistency in what characters can't or can do, doing superhuman ninja flips one second only to stumble on a branch and be all "help i can't get up" the next second. Which is fine when you are a kid, but it certainly makes it a harder watch as an adult. Which makes it pale in comparisment to more well-written shows like Avatar, or even a different Jetix example like Oban Star Racers The writing is actually frustrating at times as the writers actively undo character development and plot progression so that they can "reset" the show back to it's starting premise for the next episodic content. Like Jenny getting her memory wiped, or Martin's "perfect match" girlfriend who's relationship was built up through a 2-part episode, only for the writers to completely contradict her established character and throw all that away, by having her break up with Martin off-screen over the cellphone for the dumbest reason. Characters aren't actually allowed to mature or change, because they have to continuously fit the role of the stereotype they were written to be. The show could also have greatly benefited from having an overarching and consequential villain, and a more interesting weapon/gadget for the main characters. Even as a kid i thought the watch was kinda boring. It was one of my favourite shows as a kid and still is primarily because of the incredible and darker art style, animation and the premise of paranormal investigation. You are always excited to see what new creative monster they were going to face.

As a girl, i favor Martin Mystery more because at least they didn't have the stereotypes that Totally Spies did. The girls seemed to have too much in common and there wasn't anything that really set them apart. They liked the same things that people believed girls loved to do in the early 2000's. Shopping, boys, and not to mention the whole fetish thing that came with the show. I wouldn't say TS was a bad show, I thought it was okay at least. But I preferred MM because the characters were more fleshed out, I liked the idea of monsters and myths over the typical evil bad guy or organisation wanting to rule the world through for some unjust reason. Overall, it had more of a concept of mystery that not many kids would be into, but yet it really appealed. I mean, let's face it, the only reason that guys watched TS was because of the girls. The boys either wanted to date the girls or they wanted to be like the spies.
@carlottajohns86915 жыл бұрын
Cosmo K-13 I agree. Martin mystery is better than totally spies since the characters are better and fleshed out, they have creative stories and storylines, dark and mystery creepy atmosphere etc. totally spies on the other hand wasn’t that great the girls were too streotypical, shallow, obnoxious, and annoying and totally spies is very unoriginal show all they talk about is boy, boys, boys, they also talk about boys in missions too and the villians were generic and not threatening at all. Martin Mystery on the other hand is very original, the characters are great, the premise is creative and original, the villians are actually threatening and scary and plus the two Parters like day of the shadows for example were awesome! Totally spies is just garbage!
@cosmok-13675 жыл бұрын
Carlotta Johns you got a point. I mean, not to dis on Totally Spies, if you like the show fine. But in terms of flaws, that show had more than Martin Mystery. It’s a shame MM only had three seasons. I don’t know how many seasons TS had... but I’m sure it was a lot more. I think there was also another spin off of that where there were four kids that became spies but I don’t remember the name. Though I know the same company produced it.
@carlottajohns86915 жыл бұрын
Cosmo K-13 oh u mean the spinoff about 4 kids who are spies u mean the amazing spiez to be honest I watch that show it wasn’t that great either it’s already as bad as totally spies because the kids in amazing spiez are streotypical and has little to no development at all just like totally spies. I’ll be Honest with u the only marathon production show I liked is Martin Mystery because liked u said in the comment below it doesn’t have the stereotypes like totally spies or amazing spiez did. To be fair, the cross over episode look more vibrant probably because it was made at least 4 years after the last season of Martin Mystery. I think the real problem was that they run out of ideas. The season 2 two last episodes feel like a grand finally, the show could had stopped there. The season 3 finally is really odd and doesn't add up to season 2 finally. I think the stories of the comics where to hard to make kid friendly and they put their beth on totally spies and the Galactic Academy... Or something like that. Since we are in the universe where a live action Dora the Explorer is a thing, I say we should have a live action Martin Mystery movie!

I liked both shows, but Martin Mystery was the best. To me they had the supernatural appeal that sent them all over. And sure Totally Spies did travel a lot too, but to me they actually had the same formula of always at school then whooshed away on a mission, kick some butt then back home. At least you got a better story from Martin with the folklore, meaning they couldn't kill things the exact same way. Plus them getting vacuumed up made the point of them being secret spies stupid since their cover was blown pretty much every episode. Still love them both, but if I wanted a reboot it'll have to be Martin Mystery for sure. Also just where did you binge watch the episodes? Can't seem to find an english dub online.

By the way Bonelli in Italy is THE Italian comic publisher. Dylan Dog, Martyn Mystere (Martin Mystery original name), Nathan Never, Zagor, Tex were all best selling comics and some are still published to this day after decades. Over here Martin Mystere is far more recognized as "that comic from Bonelli". It's really interesting to see a switched perspective honestly.

Just a correction though: Martin Mistery is a 1983 comic and is still published today.

I love Martin Mystery it’s a really good show. . I’ll be honest with u about totally spies even though girl power shows were really good like sailor moon, Kim possible. But to be honest while totally spies are decent not my favorite, not great. the girls especially Sam, clover and alex in that show were too stereotypical, boy obsessed, obnoxious, and girly in my taste and whenever they said like ‘whatever’, or something like that it gets irritating fast not all girls are like that. And the villains in totally spies were not that interesting/threatening in the least bit just generic. The only tolerable character in totally spies is jerry. To be honest I prefer Martin Mystery over totally spies in my opinion. Because Martin Mystery has better characters, better villains that are actually threatening etc

Honestly, I liked them both at the same time. I don't have Cartoon Network - haven't had it since I was really little and only saw Totally Spies at least a few times (on vacation). I don't remember how I found out about Martin Mystery, but I enjoy it because of it's futuristic, Scooby Doo vibe with REAL monsters! I liked Totally Spies because I love travel, and they showed the girls all over the world - same with Martin Mystery, and I loved the idea of teenage spies when I was eight and managed to grow up with them when I found the series online in high school. Like you mentioned in the video, Martin Mystery can grow up with you and STILL be enjoyable. I found the two shows on-par with each other and was disappointed they couldn't produce another season of MM. Because 'not enough boys watched it'? What about the GIRLS that LOVE this kind of thing? It might've scared me if I saw it when I was six, but I would've STILL watched it! To be truthful, the sixth season of Totally Spies was kinda horrendous compared to the first five; almost like the show downplayed everything for the sake of five year olds watching it! You get even weirder cases, and it doesn't follow the end of the fifth season, like they're trying to make an alternate timeline that makes VERY LITTLE sense! Great video, by the way! ^^

Martin Mystery will forever be my favorite show from when i was a kid. I grew up in the Northeastern US, and we used to get Canadian tv stations', and MM was on one of them. NOTHING was better then being stuck inside during a dreary Northeastern winter and watching Martin Mystery with hot chocolate and a blanket, dreaming of doing what he was doing. However...nothing was worse when all of the sudden, Martin Mystery wasn't around anymore, and i didn't know why. I had no explanation, no closure. As i got older, i learned that shows' just get cancelled sometimes', and i realised that's just what it was, and the show faded to the back of my mind. Fast forward, and i also learned that no one i know watched it as a kid, or even knows what it is. I'm glad that i was lucky enough to have seen Martin Mystery, and the fact that i seem to be the lone watcher where i'm from...it makes it that much more special. Thank you for the video, it brought back a lot of memories'!
