I'm from the UK and growing up, my sister (whos dad is black) never had many fellow British role models to identify with. She used to hate her natural hair and being the odd one out. But as soon as she saw Scary Spice she had someone to identify with. Suddenly the hair she hated become something everyone wanted. Kids need this kind of thing.

Also Alesha's was dropped by Polydor after the release of her second solo single Knockdown underperformed, and she independently released her debut album Fired Up in Japan before going on Strictly Come Dancing, then all the record labels wanted to re-signed her.

@@Calicapenergy88 Trying to achieve a darker complexion does not mean trying to be black as black people are not _tanned._ When white (or even non-white people, for that matter) darken their skin they are not trying to achieve the complexion of dark-skinned people so it is ridiculous to say _"they want everything we have"_ when it is literally impossible for dark-skinned black people to achieve the complexion that tanned non-blacks do and for non-blacks to achieve the same complexion as dark-skinned black people.

Great video. Mis-Teeq weren't really in the same league as S Club 7 and the Spice Girls (the latter didn't release much after 2000 anyway), they rode more on the UK garage scene of the early 2000s alongside So Solid Crew and Ms Dynamite etc. I remember the subject of Zena leaving was quite touchy for a while - in interviews the trio would say "She just left" and refuse to be drawn on it. After the second album they went quiet for a while then the split did seem a bit sudden. Almost surprised the lawsuit from Sabrina didn't arrive sooner. In other news, I was once on an identity parade on Britain's Got Talent and I'm pretty sure Alesha doesn't actually need a microphone - to her credit, the girl is loud!

@@blackheartbev3098 I think the thing is that Sabrina filled the role in the band that so many really good, but less explosive vocalists end up in. Like Kelly Rowland in Destiny's Child, or JC Chasez in Nsync, or Faye Tozer in Steps, or Rachel and Jon in S Club, or Liz in Atomic Kitten, or Gary Barlow in the first iteration of Take That. They're really consistent vocalists who are integral to the band's sound and the success of the songs, but they get outshone by their more extroverted and exciting counterparts - Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Claire, Jo (and Bradley), Natasha, and Robbie Williams respectively. Sabrina is an good vocalist with a very sweet voice and great control, but Alesha's got a bit more grit and punch in her voice - plus her rapping was incredible. Every band NEEDS a Sabrina to anchor the group, but a Sabrina on their own often ends up feeling a bit lost, because audiences are always waiting for the Alesha to come in and amp up the song. I think Sabrina's solo career would have always been less successful than Alesha's even if both had been light-skinned, just as Kelly has been less successful than Beyoncé and so on, but I still think it's terrible how she was discriminated against for being more black.
