made a shittily edited podcast with my best friend about this show that dropped around the same time last year. Yours is much more well-made, I see the flaws in my designs. This show is fuckin incredible, and it's a tragedy what happened to it. The creators recently pitched a continuation of sorts, Gus and Wally. WB denied it and denied them the rights to use the characters, for no reason. WB will never do anything with this. They're evil. Edit: I posted at the start of the video, i was just excited to see another in depth analysis of mission hill.

I didn't watch the whole season or get really into it but I liked Mission Hill when I was a kid. I mean I was in the age range of late teens when it came out. I used to watch Bevis and Butthead and Daria and this was on around when they were. Funny enough I never watched Mission Hill on any channel but MTV I just forgot about it when it went to WB.

We got robbed that this show didn't get more seasons. Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein working together were one of the best duos in the entire history of tv comedy animation and it's a shame we never got to see more from them with this show. They took everything they learned from The Simpsons and carried it over. They both did work together for the first 4 seasons of Futurama as writers which also explains why the writing was so good in that show as well

I like to think Mission Hill is in Andy's perspective, and he's the one that made and animated this whole show based off his life. And honestly even today I don't see very many (or good) shows for th age demographic that Mission Hill was targeting.
@Kaboomboo
@Kaboomboo Жыл бұрын
I think that was the plan. The show was supposed to a series arc in which Andy moves up in the cartooning world and eventually he starts an animated series based on his life in the last episode. Would've been so good.

I love urban based shows/cartoons. Cartoons like The Critic, The PJ's, Hey Arnold and This Beautiful Show really hold a special place in my heart. Outside of Hey Arnold! I grew up on Cartoon Network/Adult Swim (ALL KIDS OUT OF THE POOL ERA) Shows like ed,edd,eddy were hilarious but seeing characters living in the suburbs wasn't relatable, same with Home Movies. (Coach McGurk is the shit) I really love the commentary on this DVD. The creators were gonna have everyone grow older over the seasons like real people, and continue to have real world/slice of life issues just like most of the stuff present in this show already. I really wish there was more cartoons like what I mentioned above or rather just more Adult Animators willing to take this kind of risk again.

Mission Hill and The Oblongs were absolute best thing on television that happened to me as a confused queer kid. Growing up in conservative family in Russia, suddenly I was blasted with beautiful animations on “2x2” channel that bought licenses to air a lot of old cartoons from Fox, CN and others. Mission Hill actually helped me to understand a lot of things about sexuality, emotions, first love, and Oblongs taught me about consequences of being “the other one”, being alone and dealing with it and realizing that home is where you belong, not where you’re from - and grow into a woman I am now. Thank you for that essay, man, revisiting those memories was really great.

I never understood why such a top-notch show got such a short lifespan, or why it seems to have made so little impact that no one ever talks about it. I watch a lot of channels that are about pop culture analysis, including channels specifically about animation, and not only have I never seen a full retrospective on it before, I'm not sure any of them have ever brought it up at all. I loved this show. I just recently revisited it and it truly was a tradegy that it was killed before it's time. Great video! Seriously. You filled that need I have for more Mission Hill.

Fever dream. That’s what I thought this show was. I undoubtedly watched this show when I was a kid.

Own the DVD! The colors are like what colors a professional cartoon would throw out! I love it.

I loved this show. My favorite line is when the pimp throws his back out and says to Posey "Please help me, Bitch" lmao

Putting them in front of Wayan's Bros, Jamie Foxx and Steve Harvey is how I found this show. It wasn't what I was used to, but it was the first adult cartoon I had ever seen, and it still stands up today! Loved this thing!

I STILL can't believe Kevin's bling blong noise came from a real person LOL Still cute how Scott Menville did those. They should've made an episode of Kevin's bling blong phrase having some sort of "malfunction"

Nice, can tell by the background music you're a fan of Hotel Dusk. It's literally one of my favorite games

I don't think I saw this when it first aired, but when it made its way up here on Teletoon, I was in my early 20s so it spoke to me. Along with Clone high and Undergrads, it was a great time for indie adult cartoons!

Excellent video! One of the few cartoons that never compromised its integrity and remained brutally honest and funny throughout its entirety.

I think the show ended perfectly, i still have my Mission Hill DVD, if youre a early Simpsons fan you'll love this show, Andy and Kevin are such a relatable dynamic being an older brother looking at the younger sibling as a nerd and being the one able to adapt to a strange city with colourful characters
