Kind of boring gameplay wise. But hearing Hedwig's Theme and being able to explore a castle that is very faithful to the movie version was quite amazing. Half Blood Prince was more or less the same game, but maybe with better gameplay (I can't remember for sure lol).

For better or worse, there was nothing like movie tie-in games. Playing as characters from the movie, lots of times voiced by the same actors in the movie, and hearing the music from the movie play in the background, even for the shittiest movie tie-in game was a crazy experience. It's a shame that they faded away

It's a shame that the 8th generation of gaming basically *abandoned* license games, but from how it's looking we have some new license games announced for the 9th generation like Bethesda's Indiana Jones, I.O. Interative's Project 007, Ubisoft's Open World Star Wars, Warner Brothers Montreal's Gotham Knights and many more. In a way you could say license games are making a comeback.

While I'm really excited for these games, and glad that studios are seeing the value in them, we've still basically lost the genre of licensed adaptation games. No matter how good these games are, there's always going to be an itch that I just can't scratch. I want to PLAY Harry Potter or Star Wars, not just play a game set in the same world, but actually play the stories I fell in love with, as the characters I fell in love with. I want to see full-blown adaptations in video-game form instead of just spin-offs, made with passion and an acceptable budget. But, unfortunately, the major studios still don't see that market, and perhaps never will.

Man, I came here because last night I was playing Spider-Man 3 on Wii - I know, horrible graphical optimization (It was released like six months within the Wii's lifespan and still there was no graphical benchmark reference such as Super Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3 that could truly show off the Wii's graphical power) but it was 5 bucks and I actually love the motion controls - 2007 was truly a year to behold for licensed games. And I have a theory why there were so many licensed games particulary on that year: It was a time of transition! The Xbox 360 was already a year old and many developers were familiar with the technology, but there were a lot of folks that still owned PlayStation 2 (Sony was planning on stretching its support until the PS3 became affordable) - and then there was the phenomenon of the Wii sandwiched in between as an unorthodox "experience over interface" system that made many devs justify porting PS2 assets and tack on motion controls. So this was the panorama: Easy to develop next gen systems (360 and Wii) plus a still supported last generation system with a large install base (PS2), Nintendo's always profitable handheld systems (GBA, DS) and one basically a lower-spec'd brother to the one with the large install base (PSP). And then the summer of 2007's movie lineup with superhero (Spider-Man 3, Fantastic Four 2, TMNT), fantasy (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), animation (The Simpsons and Ratatouille) and that looming juggernaut of mindless summer blockbuster fun named Transformers proved to be one hell of a cash fountain.

I'd say that a part of these games' demise is because of the general change in how games are developed. Read the big long article about the Tomb Raider franchise's development and how it explains the way that Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness turned out so badly because mainstream big-budget games could no longer be developed by a small team of like 20 people without any sort of schedule. Well... I'd say that falls into the so-called "underdog energy" of these licensed games as well. There's very little "underdog energy" in today's game industry PERIOD. I'll bet that many of these early PS2 licensed games were outsourced to small studios that only had 30 people on staff and they had two games in development at once. That worked back in 2001-2007, but with today's standards it just isn't possible. There's no way that they could make high end modern 3D models on that small of a budget with that few people. Also, the programming is much more complex nowadays. They need more people and more money to make games that are up to today's standards. If the makers of a movie or TV show don't have that kind of money, then it's just not doable.

I truly don't see why you would think Marvel's Avengers is a cashgrab... it really is trying to do its own thing and I truly think it being a live service is good, because all the important content added post-launch will be free, also I've seen the footage from the beta and people say it plays better than it looks. That being said, I still liked the video anyways, good job mate.

@guiltyhxc2 жыл бұрын
Buggy as hell, you can only play the story once, caring too much about multiplayer instead the actual story, which is poorly written, mechanics are boring and the art style is nothing but ugly, it gives complete uncanny valley vibes. And don't get me started on Spider-Man

@@NotJames2007 no not really. In the shocker fight you wait you dodge and wait for an opening in the rhino fight you lure him under a crane and then pull it down, and the doc ock fight you dodge debris and throw them back before transitioning to a brawl on the side of a building. And even if the bosses were repetitive which they are not, that’s not all the game has to offer. There’s stealth missions chase missions and different set pieces like fighting on a truck or taking down a helicopter. It’s constantly switching things up with new gameplay and interesting locations. Avengers can’t even HOPE to compare.
