Gardening is hard work. It's so sad when the rain doesn't come and you watch your lovely plants wither and slowly die. Such is life. A never-ending circle. Thanks for sharing.

I'm guessing you meant to say "plants" not pants. Anyway I agree 100% with your comment.

I live in QLD and a little inland so colder in winter and hotter in Summer. Everyone I know tries to garden like yourself. I have a huge area, but the principle is great for any size area. Grow on a food forest principle. Fruit trees and especially support trees crops. They provide heaps of shade and mulch. We grow lots of pigeon peas and QLD arrowroot. We chop these for mulch . Because we have heaps of shade and mulch we save heaps of water . We don’t get fried on the 40 degree days at all. In our dense large banana circle our temperature is at least 10 degrees cooler in summer.

Your winter doesn’t seem very cold. That would be super nice for growing.

Pasci and Troy, we just love watching your homesteading updates. Very impressed with your approach, all the knowledge you have and dedicated practice. It sure takes a lot to keep up with all the chores, take care of not just family, but gardens, animals, making videos. Good on you! I love the never-ending learning that you promote so well and the can-do approach that you role-model to all of us. It is truly inspiring

Growing your own food sure can be full of ups and downs. It looks like you got a good amount from your garden despite the hard times. It is great you have been able to,veto get some rain lately. I love the idea of the volunteer apple tree in your garden. Hopefully it dies well in its job of keeping the garden a bit cooler in the future. Hopefully you get plenty of garlic and other produce from your garden in the near future.

You three are great, here in South Carolina I use whatever I can to cover summer plants from shade cloth to old beach umbrellas. Sorry to hear about the water situation.

Frailties of gardening and weather. Time, patience are good attributes. Various tyoes of shading and water conservation when the downpours do come will help.

When one gets a dry season like you have experienced is a good lesson to remember that when you get what one would call too bountyful crop, that it is not always going to be that way in the future. So preserve more than you need, if possible for just that time that your crops dont do well, and as we realize that going to occur for many different reasons.

Garden burnout is a thing! I'm quite happy to turn my back on the garden when its hot, buggy and overgrown with weeds lol. I got such a late start this year it's a fall garden(Virginia, USA)! Beautiful place and a beautiful baby too! So nice!

Potatoes come from the Peruvian Andes. My experience is that they are more frost hardy than a lot of people realize, and that they grow in Australia best as an autumn planted and early Spring planted vegetable. My potatoes come up when they feel like it, which tends to be Autumn, just after the rains start (so Feb-March) and about August and September. I live in the Northern Country of Victoria, AU, about 20 km east of the Mallee, so brutal Summers are just a fact of life, around here. Fortunately, I have about 20 acres of land and about half of that is rainwater catchment, for my dam. Gardening was almost impossible before I installed a drip irrigation system, now it is not so bad! Fencing to exclude the swamp wallabies and kangas is another MUST!!! It has all been a lot of work but is definitely worth it! God Bless, And May Your Veggies Prosper!!!

Unfortunately, the climate shift is causing havoc to farmer's crops across the globe. Here's hoping that your Winter vegetables fare better! Loving the channel, and as always, learning something with each episode!

Climate shift is a joke. Everyone crying simply because they don’t get smart about how to produce food correctly. I see farmers crying “ drought “ and they have had 40 inches for a year. Yet farmers like Gabe Brown are cranking on zero irrigation and 10 inches a year. You like everyone crying wolf just need to get educated.

consider putting 3 or 4 inch diameter inflatable balls on the surface of the pond to minimize surface evaporation of the water.

Hi Guys. You know this, but I will comment anyway. Graft that apple tree over to something edible now in winter, or spring bud a variety or two on there in October. I was formerly an apple breeder at MHRC just down the road from you, and the odds of that seedling being anything close to edible is minuscule…

Hi Folks,if your Council has a recycling depot you can buy shredded green waste for about $6.00 per cubic metre. I run it into windrows. and get some shade if you study the Sun's path it's a win.

Harvesting and preserving is soooo important because of drought and weather. I have learned to preserve at least 2 years worth and will press on for 3. We have hard red clay here and building soil is not easy but doable.
