What happened to Piranha?

What are your thoughts on Piranha in WipeOut HD? Is there a superior option for every type of event or is the team still one of your favorite ones to play as? Feel free to leave a comment and elaborate! Considering the amount of hidden stats there are in this game, I'm very curious to hear your opinions :)

On 2048 in any speed class (other than A+) the pirhana speed and prototype are the dominant ships on altima and sol. They are simply unmatched, the feisar prototype comes close but is definitely slower on those tracks while it wrecks the pirhanas on other tracks. on A+ the ag systems speed is broken so its not close to anything and pirhana is just slower like any other ship compared to ag sys speed. On HD there are WRs that use the pirhana as with any max speed ship. My best guess is the fact that pirhana is hard to learn making it less viable for players. If youre wondering, using pirhana in speedrunning on 2048 is not viable, but on HD Fury you can totally get good times.

@@Beeeq358 Feisar prototype is very track dependent for sure. Thank you for clarifying the top ships for time trials. I assumed it would differ for different tracks, I feel like Piranha is way to sluggish for some technical circuits in HD even for expert pilots but it was interesting to know they are viable on certain tracks!

Couldn't remember this much lore surrounding Wipeout!!! It's been a long time since I played Wipeout, but this makes me want to play it again. Cool video!!!

Thanks! I think the lore has been presented in the instruction manuals of old, texts about the tracks on loading screens and there's also a comprehensive Wiki page. It's totally not necessary to dive into but it definitely increases the sense of immersion when you play the game.

@@AGRacingCentral in the first one it's paul belmondo that launch the ag scene if i remember, always tought it was funny cause paul belmondo is a real person, who fit the description, learned that from wipeout manual, this shit was like 150 pages weighted more than the game and the box combined, it was translated in lot of languages, you could buy merch and stuff from it with a coupon to send, was too young to buy anything tho.

I miss playing this game online. Whenever I look for a match, I never find any other players. Maybe it's the time zone, I live in Brazil. If anyone knows any groups, with times to play, leave a comment below.

There might be a discord server where people arrange matches and I do it too every now and then on my streams. I live in Sweden and there is an active lobby or two almost every night. Some Americans drop in every now and then so I guess you could try to expand your search to "world wide" if that's an option. Or just start a lobby and see if anyone drops in, works some times too :) Thank you for checking out the video, I hope you'll be able to do some online racing!

tbh tier list of craft dont mean a thing in hd, unless the new ship that was added with omega, i had really good result with hd assegai and fury mirage, what i never got is those feisar players that are sometimes so damn fast. i remeber a guy literally called feisar who was really insane online, would not be surprised if he still in game sometimes.

I agree, everything comes down to your play style and just frankly which ships you are enjoying the most. I have the exact same experience with Feisar. I can cut some nice corners but everybody just shoots ahead of me on the straights :) I have no clue neither how people can be so fast in that ship.

I thought that the whole point of piranha was that a skilled piranha pilot can outperform icaras and tigron due to shield. If you are neck and neck with those two ships for an entire race, piranha is much more survivable of the 3 due to the shield stat, which translates to an increased safety when going for barrel rolls as the next weapon impact isnt as likely to blow you up. I could be totally wrong about that though

I think you've got some solid points. My thoughts were that the core reason why you would play Piranha had been taken over by other teams but I think you made a solid case why the team would be a valid pick in a race with weapons turned on.

Good question :) They have made a couple of appearances in a few Wipeout games but to get the team in Omega Collection I think you had to buy the game before a certain date or something. And I'd say the team is a solid pick for many event types in that game for sure!

You are right, it is much slower. Although, after watching my final edit of this video, I kind of regret I didn't include any of the faster speed classes. For reference, the game has 4 speed classes and two of them are faster than the ones shown in the video.
