@@nativeson1559To be fair to the Pope, it was very recently a Rome-dialect only word, and he doesn't speak Italian too well as a first gen immigrant, and his parents' Italian spoken at home must be pretty outdated. Certainly a confused message from Bergoglio. One day calling gays a derogatory word, then the next day apologizing in a statement released by the Vatican. This shouldn't be surprising as so many of his statements have no meaning, double meanings, mixed meanings and clear meanings, followed up by statements of regret or no clarification at all. Still, the only one ever to bring a false idol, Pachamama, into St. Peters. Nothing Bergoglio says should be of surprise as, in the end, he says everything and nothing. Are you confused by him? We need to make them feel welcome to come. Not welcome in doing their sin, but we want to make sure homosexuals understand the Catholic Church doesn’t reject them, we want them to come and be healed. So the Pope did the right thing, he kept his order to keep homosexuals out of the seminary, but wants to make sure that homosexuals understand they’re welcome as is any other sinner who wants to learn more about the Catholic faith.

Yes, he said the right thing in the wrong way. He apologized for his error to the world which is more than I can say for many leaders and politicians. I have used the word he said in my own speech. I was wrong too. He made it abundantly clear his stand, and I understand. I thank him for his clarity. Far better than things he has said in the past years. He is a good person and I continue to pray for him and the church.

I just feel like if people are going around saying i identify like this ect they are not fit until they repent and come to reason to serve the church in that way. I am gay but I agree with the Pope, too. He did not need to apologize. The Pope did not say to exclude gays just because they are gay. Instead, he said that if you cannot control yourself and behave, you probably should not pursue priesthood. So many gays are just too "fabulous", it does not give an impression of self-restraint and fortitude which we all look for in a moral leader.

Being Gay is not sinful in itself. if the gay “act” on their gay attraction that is the act of sinning. It’s their cross to bare. Even a heterosexual sins if outside the sanctity of marriage. Imagine the burden even for a well intentioned gay man the rest of his life living in close quarters with other men. @@loganw1232 There have been several credible studies. An excellent one is was by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 2011 and Terry & Ackerman in 2008. It may also interest you to know that research has shown that many of the abusers of boys were NOT gay but rather that abusing clerics were “situational generalists” victimizing whoever they had access to and trust with. Priests, historically, had easy and regular access to boys more so than girls (e.g., altar servers, all-boy schools, and sports teams). Thus, while they would have preferred girls, boys were more readily available to them.

It's just my opinion as a lowly lay person, but I believe soft language has made people soft. There should be no gay men in the priesthood. Now, a chaste man who deals with same sex attraction is a different story. Gay is a lifestyle while same sex attraction is a cross to bare. If you have people who deal with this burden around each other constantly, it becomes unnecessary temptation for them. Or worse yet, it enables predatory behavior by leadership who are gay. I gave the pope a pass on word usage here because 60 years ago it wasn't thought of as a slur, at least around me. Times change, we become wiser and more aware and more considerate of others, but sometimes, our mind goes back in time. I'm glad he apologized for the usage, but not the message. Not that a celebate gay man should never be a priest, but because they do have that extra burden in life, we have to be very careful. Viva Christopher Rey!

The word "anti" in antichrist does not mean someone who is going to be openly anti (against) Christ. That word "anti" in the original Bible language can actually mean "IN PLACE OF". So could the bible antichrist be someone who has actually put himself "in place of" Christ? Well, we have further Bible evidence to support this. In 1 John 2:18-19 it says that there were "many antichrists", who "WENT OUT FROM THE CHURCH". In other words, John is pointing to the fact that those "antichrists" were WITHIN THE CHURCH!! Not only that, but Paul in 2 Thess. 2:3-4 calls the man of sin the "son of perdition". Now there is only one other place in the Bible where the name "son of perdition" is used, and that is in John 17:12 talking about JUDAS! And what was Judas? A professing follower of Christ Jesus. Someone who deceived from WITHIN the "church". "The leader of the Catholic church is defined by the faith as the Vicar of Jesus Christ (and is accepted as such by believers). The Pope is considered the man on earth who TAKES THE PLACE of the Second Person of the omnipotent God of the Trinity." (John Paul II, Crossing the Threshold of Hope, p. 3, 1994). "ANTI" - Christ = "IN PLACE OF" Christ!

Normally I fully agree with you, Fr Mark, but there are false accusations here. Notice the media’s report that the Holy Father made derogatory remark “about gay men...”, but the facts you read said “in seminary’s.“ He was clearly talking about the seminary culture, which most are aware is suffering from many such issues, and he was speaking specifically to bishops. It wasn’t a public statement, but the enemy jumps on the chance to spin it. Further, you say that the Holy Father has made “confusing statements”, as though it is his character to deliver an inconsistent message. In reality, the Holy Father has been perfectly consistent and orthodox for 11 years. I challenge anyone who disagrees to provide actual quotes with context. You will fail. The confusion rests in the minds of the listeners, as it did during Christ’s ministry. A simple truth of our faith which clarifies 90+% of the so-called confusing remarks is this, which Pope Francis clearly lives by : Judge the sin and NOT the sinner. He does not condemn or throw under the bus ANY person(s), and he also never excuses any sin.
