As a 27 older millennial I'm so thankful I was expose to R&B music from 1950s-early 2000s. I think the best eras of R&B were 1970s-early 2000s. We need a more R&B singers singing about love, heartbreak and issues plaguing society again. We need instruments being used again. We need R&B singers being started back in the black church and music programs again. We need a new R&B revolution. In the past we got the quiet storm era, new jack swing era, hip-hop soul era, neosoul era, alternative R&B and trap soul era. Its time for a new era of R&B music! I will always love R&B music from the 1970s-early 2000s and have that music on my rotation. Music in general declined since around 2007-2009 and it has gotten worst since. This is an excellent breakdown of R&B music and is a conversation that needs to continue.

I think hip-hop is the main thing that killed R&B. I also heard that some music executive who were white supremacists didn’t want to play R&B anymore because there was so much love in it. They promoted hip-hop more because they like the lyrics more.

I'm 32 years old and I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. I personally don't think R&B is dead, I think it has been placed on the "Back Shelf" because of Vanity. Its sad seeing the current condition of the music industry being zoned focused on selling sex and making a profit, that's all they care about these days, It shouldn't be this way. As a Musician myself Its really disrespectful the way they sneer at singers and musicians who are phenomenally gifted and how they get passed over for pretty boys and pretty girls with the nice smiles and sexiest bodies. This whole notion of "Sex Sells" really gets under my skin, Its so embarrassing. I have a feeling that all of this teenage trap crap is coming to an end. That stuff is pretty much "Here Today and Gone Tomorrow" Nobody is going to remember this stuff, its just an unentertaining commercial. Real Music is coming back to reclaim its place on the throne.
