It was a long time ago. My gracious he'd be 75, had he lived.

Ritchie’s always been my favorite. Great video. As guitar player myself. Ritchies tabs and chords were very unlike anything at the time. He had the advantage of being Mexican and learning scales and rhythms from his culture. Spanish scales that were only past down through heritage. Plus the blues and soul Rhythms he had. Ritchie is very very underrated. There’s very little we know about him. But what I can tell you from everything I’ve seen and read about Ritchie is that the day the plane burned to the ground, that was the day we lost so much creativity, individualism, and passion for music which Ritchie carried so noticeably.

The King of Latin Rock/pop. He paved the way for every Latin artist who have come after him. Everyone, from Los Lobos, Father Santana, to Ricky Martin. Even La Reigna, Selena. I was wrongly under the impression that Ritchie was at least in his early 20s. 17, I can't believe how young and talented that was. And now it's 60+ years ago. Incredible. All the musicians that have been taken away too soon are always the ones that would've pioneered the greatest in music, instead of just influencing through their successors.

My aunt saw them when they came to St. Paul, MN during their tour. They performed at the Prom Center, and she said it was a great concert.

Just so sad. I wonder how many more hits he would of had if he didn't get on the plane.

Tim O'Brien and fact he was afraid to fly this is tragic and if he never got on the plane he would be here rocking and rolling Rest In Peace Ritchie.

On Sept,1959 ,I had the opportunity to chat with Ritchie before his gig at Pacific Ocean Park,at Santa Monica,Ca. We a few months apart in age....I was a senior at L.A. High. He was introverted but very easy to chat with with no similarity to Lou Diamond Phillips.

Although Ritchie Valens is bot particularly viewed as being the greatest guitarist in the world, To my eyes he was. Ritchie was the reason I went out and bought a guitar. Although later on down the road I would find new Guitarist to look up to. Ritchie valens will always be the guy that made me get one and be my number one favorite guitarist.

That was a tremendous loss, Richie, The Big Bopper and the leading light of the day, Buddy Holly who might well have gone on to rival Elvis Presley. To see that talent crushed, almost brings me to tears....even sixty-one years later.

I have always liked "La Bamba & Donna " I was reading the book San Fernando Valley, America's Suburb and he was mentioned. Brought me here. At 17, I am just thinking what the music scene could have been, had the accident did not cut his life short. Thanks for the video

I'm from Iowa. The actual crash site is very underwhelming. The farmer who owned the land they crashed on was gracious enough to leave a walkway and the site open. Otherwise people might not know where it was at all

Everytime I hear the story of the conditions the musicians had to endure on the winter dance party tour, it reminds me of some gigs we played up in northern Michigan in mid winter in the late 70s. It was so cold our vans would not supply enough heat. During that whole little so called tour, I thought about Buddy, Ritchie, and J.P.. It was horrible. We made it though and joked how true musicians would toss 5 thousand dollars of equipment in vans worth around 5 hundred dollars each, and drive hundreds of miles in freezing cold to play a gig and make a hundred bucks... "NUTZ"
