For a moment in time Ricky Nelson eclipsed even Elvis Presley in hit records. An actor turned musician became one of Americas biggest teen idols and a respected song writer. Sadly, his life would end tragically early.

where does the time go, I used to rush home from school to hear him sing at the end of the Ozzie and Harriett show, I am now 70. Seems like yesterday
@thomas1004485 жыл бұрын
Margot Boyd My favorite part of those shows was when Rick would be playing and singing, his band behind him, a crowd of girls in front. I started guitar lessons because of him, wanted to be in a band playing rock ‘n roll to girls, but my teacher went by the book: learn the notes, learn to read music when I just wanted to play rock songs, so it didn’t last. The first tune he had me play was “Mary had a little lamb” from a song book. In hindsight I should’ve stayed with it; I might have been in demand as a guitar player after the Beatles hit it. Lol. Now we’ll never know

Rick Nelson was my idol as I grew up. I had all his records nd as luck would have it, I was fortunate enough to work with him and his family as a child actor in the 50's. The Nelsons were just as you saw them on television.....kind, considerate and wonderful people. Ozzie was a genius. I had a recurring part on "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" as the "Neighborhood boy "Terry". I will never forget those times. I am and will be forever grateful to Ricky and his television family. What a talent they all had. Good guys don't always finish last.

Elvis went to the Army from 1958 to 1960 and that was around the time Ricky was becoming famous. Elvis's swivel hips left a lasting impression on the girls cause the Col was putting his records out all along. They both were good looking but Elvis could draw the girls in with his sex appeal.
@lorimiller43012 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it seems like Elvis used his sex appeal in his performances, where Rick didn't. He was a good-looking man, but he didn't use it as one of his allures. His death in the plane crash was not instantaneous nor initially catastrophic. It was a private, customized DC-3 with a gasoline cabin heater. A problem developed with the heater while in flight causing the cabin & cockpit to fill with smoke. The pilots managed to make an emergency landing, but the plane quickly became engulfed in flames. The crew barely escaped by climbing out the cockpit windows, but the passengers had already been overcome by smoke and all perished. There were initial rumors that they had been freebasing cocaine and that caused the fire. This turned out to be false, the cabin simply contained some cans of aerosol hair spray.

I watched Ricky Nelson grow up on the Ozzie and Harriet Show. I think his fame came from being compared to the King, Elvis Presley, but, in my opinion, Ricky had more appeal as the “boy-next-door.” Still miss him. Proud of his boys singing as Nelson. 🧡

Я абсолютно согласен с Вами. Рики гораздо более родной, чем Элвис. И в нём нет никакого самолюбования и показухи. Это очень подкупает. Ну и песни очень чистые. Его красота не капризна.

I was 6 years old when I fell in love with Ricky Nelson. Back in 195 7. It was when we got our first black and white TV and it was very small and kind of round in a wood box. I guess I'm old now. LOL but I sure miss Ricky. The only TV show I ever wanted to watch besides Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. I was infatuated with Roy Rogers. He was always saving the women.

Bob Dylan was a big Rick Nelson fan. When he went electric he tried to hire Rick's band that included the superb guitar player James Burton who later put together Elvis's new band when he went back to playing live. Indeed, Rick's records with James Burton were arguably the most influential source for all the British rock guitarists who revere James Burton- and that's all of the big names. Keith Richards inducted James into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.You can see James in many of the photos and clips in this little tribute to a very great artist.

Ricky also helped launch the career of his early-years lead guitarist, James Burton, whom Elvis would later hire as his lead guitarist until his (Elvis's) death in 1977. What added sizzle to his recordings were the background vocals performed by the Jordainaires, the same group that sang behind Elvis. Those gentlemen were marvelous in their own right.

And James would help launch the career of Albert Lee who replaced him in Emmy Lou Harris Hot Band when he left her to play for Elvis .

I loved him singing in Rio Bravo! I loved his acting in that! He was the new up & coming actor to watch for! Such a sweet voice! Very nice video! Thank you. 🙏🏼 (I don’t think Helen Blair’s parents would’ve sued if Harriet had let them bury their daughter next to Rick. That is why they sued! He wanted to marry her, the family talked him out of it. 🙄)
