What were the root causes of the great changes in the Church after the 1960s? Tens of thousands of Catholic priests and nuns left religious life, and tens of millions abandoned old beliefs and practices. Why? A discussion.

I have been attending the SSPX since 2015 and I can say that they are very best priests I have ever known. They are extremely hard working. They travel 1000s of miles to offer the Sacraments. The teaching is 100% Catholic. There is no "sectarian" mentality. That is a complete myth. They see a huge problem in the Hierarchy but then so do many others. Many of the dire warnings that the saintly Lefevbre gave have come true. I believe that when the Modernist madness is destroyed a future Pope will declare Marcel Lefevbre a Saint. Finally, after having found the Blessed Sacrament crushed on the floor at the end of the Novus Ordo I went through a terrible period of trial which affected my mental health. I was on the verge of losing my faith and my mind. It's a long story but every time I went to the Novus Ordo, each Sunday, I would leave the Church in a terrible state of panic and anxiety. Then I found a home and peace in the SSPX. Their priests have been true pastors to me and I thank God everyday that they are in my life. Thank you Archbishop Lefevbre!

Father Z, a stalwart defender of the SSPX, once featured a video, where he stated, was a reason why the SSPX would not only succeed, but prevail. It showcased a priest, whose priory is in Oregon. Yet he routinely flies, to Alaska. Disboards, and then boards a small plane to a remote area, in order to say Mass and offer the Sacraments to Catholics in in the sticks. In short, he travels thousands of miles so Catholics in a very remote section of Alaska can receive traditional Catholicsm. How many Novus Ordo priests do this? This very same priest has also substituted for our regular priest in NYC. He's amazing and serious about his vocation. God bless the SSPX.

Today the nuns have to sell off all their properties that were donated, so that they could buy into Social Security . This was extremely expensive. Most of the nuns are elderly and need Nursing Care. They are now begging for financial help. In former times the younger nuns supported the older nuns, we all know what happened, no younger replacements. Our nuns have literally given their lives for God. May He bless them abundantly.

In addition, Bishop Schneider also visited the SSPX seminary in Ecône and found nothing wrong. Actually, he essentially said Catholic seminaries could learn from the SSPX seminaries. SSPX is Catholic and part of the Holy Catholic Church……their status is “canonically” irregular, but that is an internal Church matter - they are NOT schismatic…….and are some of the most devout priests I have ever encountered……they are what the Jesuits used to be. Their formation is EXCELLENT.

"We have used ambiguous terms at the council and afterwards we shall know how to interpret them." This was the attitude by those responsible for the Council and someone, I can't remember who, maybe Annibale Bugnini, actually was quoted saying it. This was found in Bugnini's Council correspondence, he said that, " we would go from council meetings and lie to the pope and then we would go to the council from the pope and lie to the council. So much for being guided by the Holy Spirit.

The glowing reference to Cardinal Francis Spellman is interesting. "Frannie" as he was known, was a voracious homosexual, who was muich favoured by the Vatican because of his tremendous ability to raise funds. Spellman was the man who, out of sheer spite, put America's greatest and most effective public evangelist, Fulton Sheen, off the air - a puerile act of cutting off one's nose to spite one's face, as Sheen had brought many people into the Catholic Church.

Being just a couple of years older than Fr. Murr, and having lived through Vatican II and the ensuing years, his analysis is so 'eye opening' as to how everything 'went off the rails' - lack of leadership. Instead, the faithful were forcced to just watch it all implode as each new 'novelty' - as Ratzinger once pointed out - combined to a most devastating effect. I was just too young, too inexperienced and too greatly overwhelmed to make any sense of it at the time. The exodus of the religious and the laity, as Father points out, was one for the Index of Leading Catholic Indicators - devastating. What was certain at the time was that it just didn't seem right. It was as though everything that we'd been taught was just thrown out the windows that John XXIII wanted to 'open to the modern world.' The 'aggiornamento'/renewal was anything but! These interviews with Fr. Murr are just the best. We can't thank you enough for bringing Father's witness to the history books. Oremus!

I continually hear the proponents of the council say …we won’t know the effects until the results are seen??…but what I believe, anyone with a brain and faith in the trinity could see that you do not mess with God’s provision but that is exactly what the hierarchy of the council did when they voted to change the Mass of the Ages! Most of us in the pews at that time had never experienced anything like this and at the time we were too young and inexperienced to take exception. The destruction of the faith had to be the intention.

Early on, Father Murr states…”in reading the Vatican II documents I could find nothing wrong”. That may be true but the real issue is were they needed! The real problem in the 20th century church, was and is how modernism is manifesting itself in the church. The preaching of men/priests/ like deChardin, and George Terrell needed to be dissected and condemned at the highest levels in the church with excommunications. A language that also could be used to relate the message of the deposit of faith and other magisterial issues but maintaining dogma. But we all now know that’s not what Happened.

Question: I attend Holy Mass every day but Latin rite Masses are rare and hard to find. Please clarify that this Novus Ordo is indeed valid. My husband and I attended Latin Mass and by the grace of God, his funeral included a beautiful Requiem Mass. I am in Florida and across the street is a Catholic church. I was so happy I could indeed attend Mass every day. I lived through the 60s and I still have my faith. FYI I had a dear friend who was a nun. After the implementation of Vatican II, No longer could she wear her habit, pray 5 plus times a day with her sisters, and many other holy habits. She left her very first love, and entered into the world. It was a disaster and very painful until she recovered and began to live the lay life in a good parish. (Novus Ordo) I personally heard priest say. "No more Fulton Sheen, no more rosaries..."

Nuns in the schools were in the world and converted much of it through their teaching mission. Parents relied on the faith, many didn’t know in its fullness, being taught to their children. Critics of ‘women’ teaching children fail to understand how important these ‘women’ who became nuns were to forming what society was. My sisters, Dominican nuns, were great until they became ‘woke’m from Vatican II. High school was Immaculate Heart of Mary IHM nuns and I don’t remember a thing about my religion classes except for the Bible we used being grey with red and black lettering. Pretty damn sad if I say so myself. God bless those poor women now who chose the Habit and wedding ring of Christ. They are few and far between and usually cloistered or consoling. Certainly not teaching in our woke joke catholic schools.

The liturgy was corrupted, because the changes were to emulate the changes made by protestants to their liturgies. Vernacular, bread and wine in 2 forms, tables instead of altars, versus populum, no altar rails, and a reduction in language that emohasises the propitious act of the liturgy. The reduction of sacrifice of Calvary as being made present during the mass and an emphasis on the second coming, until He comes again. Noone ever talks about the chabge to the mystery of faith as detailed in the consecration. The old is the pouring out of His blood for the remission of sins the new is we proclaim your death and profess resurrection until you come again. Well He is present right there in the Eucharist, why woukd we look forward to the end of time when He is really and truly present at that moment? Those liturgies also reduced the role of the celebrant minimizing the inportance of the priesthood.

I agree with most everything Father Murr says..I do disagree in where he said we are born in innocence..maybe he misspoke or maybe he believes this, but we are not born in innocence..we are born in original sin, the sin of Adam, and for most of Church history, upto and including now, whether or not it's believed in praxis, the Church has aways and still believes children are born under the dominion of Satan, which is part of the reason to baptize infants, because, traditionally, even though that's a bad word now, the Church has taught that unbaptized infants go to hell..whether that is the hell of the damned like Augustine taught, or the edge of Hell, Limbo, like for most of Church history has been taught..which I tend to agree with the later..that is Limbo

It is not taught nor is communion in the hand treating Eucharist as our Lord. I attended SSPX for a period, but found the liturgy too modern. My Missal said KNEEL, at the Sanctus. I did. But, I was the only one. Very confusing I believe in Garabandal. I have been there. It is important to recognize what Jesus said. “You are in the world not of it.” the moment that John the 23rd through open the windows, the world and satan and his minions rushed in. The point is the church is made up of three parts. The church triumphant, the church suffering, and the church militant. The suffering and the triumphant, do not have to deal now with the times of militancy. In the history of societies, those that live their life in peace, and as a unit generally stayed intact. They protected their families their society only when necessary. The Evangelization of the world was achieved prior to Vatican II. That Evangelization pretty much suffered after Vatican II. Most, if not all missionary societies do not exist today and we’ve come to a point in the church, where Evangelization is no longer necessary, everyone is saved.

You get it! Your post is quite correct in its assertion, which I agree with. The Church decided to open itself to the world in a time of great social, religious, and political upheaval. A time of tremendous change and revolt. That spirit of change infected many in the Church. Allowing the Church to be swayed by the wild swings of the world spelled trouble for a Church built on the rock of revealed truth and sacred tradition. The Council in fact actually encouraged the secularization that was infiltrating and weakening the Church, prior to the Council.

The Novos ordo is fine with me, some Catholics like the Latin mass but for me I like to feel/ think of each word said in the mass because every words said in the MASS are very meaningful from the asking for forgiveness at the beginning of the MASS to the Blessing given by the Priest at the end of the mass. Every word said in the mass if you close your eyes are very meaningful. The only thing I hope they do is put back what Father Murr had said they took out during Consecration which was from the offering of the best lamb to God in the old testament to offering Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. It might be a long one for the priest to say during consecration but every Catholic should hear it because those are the proof that Jesus is our perfect sacrifice to offer to God the Father.

The NO “Mass” is really protestantized. It’s very very close to the Anglican service which basically removed the sacrifice.

Thank you for the discussion. This is the first time I’ve seen your podcast. I was in high school during Vatican II and related to what was being said. I cannot, however, agree that Archbishop Lefebvre did the right thing. He should have just accepted John Paul II’s concessions. The unity of the Church is paramount.

Is it, really? You think we should all unite under Bergoglio? I just read where he ordered books and papers of Pope Benedict be torn up and burned. I had so much respect, God forgive me, for Joseph Bernadine. unbefreakinglievable!

Totally disagree! And now, we are beginning to realise just how correct the SSPX are.
