Visitors to Glenridding Common may well spot the ruins of several dams up the valley - one, which is in Keppel Cove, beneath Red Screes, initially looks like a natural tarn, whilst the other - a concrete wall, with a huge hole in its base - is more obvious.
These, and another ruined dam in Brown Cove, are the remains of hydroelectric projects to provide electricity to Greenside Mine, although both of the dams in this video met with dramatic endings (which have been recreated here, using ahem cutting edge special effects).
