I think what many people really get wrong is that when they see someone dribbling past 4 defenders or lob a ball above keeper they think that player is new messi but what all the greats like messi, ronaldo(both), pele, maradona had in common was that they do the basics perfectly other than special skills. Generally players who have some special skills do not have work ethic to develop themselves into a complete footballer. Why try to spank a ball when you can just tap it in. It's those little decision making which makes them special.

Agreed! I also think it’s consistency. It’s all good having a brilliant few games or season even, but Messi and Ronaldo just never stopped being world-class year in year out. Both players proved that they live the life needed to always be brilliant. That’s what most people fail to do because it’s arguably the hardest thing of all.

Some players will be able to do some of the tricks that made these guys exceptional, but not all of them; in time, there will come about a guy, let's call him Criselé Ronéssidona who will master a few of those tricks and add new ones that no one knew were possible. That's when people will stop saying that that guy is the new Pelé, or Maradona, or Ronaldo, or Cristiano Ronaldo, or Messi. And all newcommers after that will star be called the new Ronéssidona.

The hype was so overwhelming that the boy played a half for the Russian National team while not being anywhere near the starting XI in Spartak. He got a huge contract extension in terms of numbers... and then started slacking in training, messing with his sleep schedule, eating junk, obsessively playing videogames... he stayed in the Spartak B team till 23 and then went to Bulgaria, Latvia, somewhere else and ended up in the Russian second league. My casual observation is far too often, when a player is described as the new {insert legendary player}, it hardly ever pans out. Perhaps it is the weight of the comparison but it is also because predicting how a young potential will turn out in years to come is very far from an exact science. In the cases where the talent reaches his potential, he is seen as his own person and not the new player he was compared to. Case in point: no one describes Salah as the new or Egyptian Messi. He's simply described as Salah, a phenomenal player in his own right. Perhaps it is time we stopped such comparisons which have often been nothing more than a marketing gimmick but often affect the player in a negative way.

Great video. I know the point of it is to highlight the surreal amount of players compared to Messi and show that there’s just too many to include them all in one video. Nevertheless I would have liked to see Mexican player Francisco Acuña mentioned. His nickname is literally “Messi” and it overwhelmed him so much that he pleaded to the fans and the media to stop calling him that. Cheers!

I expected a video on Krkic, not sure if the rest of these folks quite fit the bill besides sometimes being described as similar. Krkic actually had some success and showed potential, on top of being Messi's literal cousin.

One curious fact about Bojan Krkic is that he cannot play for Serbia because he played *one* game with Spain back in 2008, when he was 18. A footballing equivalent of doing something as a teenager that comes back to haunt you as an adult

Thank you for putting Faiz Nasir in the list as well! He is short but still skilful, he scores his first international goal for Malaysia on his debut as an equaliser against Afghanistan. However, after playing for like 3 matches, he didn't get a call up to the national team for now. He is 29 and playing for Terengganu FC

Pochetino must use a formation in which Messi will be played as False 9✨. As PSG has the two most talented forwards (Neymar &Mbappe) Messi will thrive as a false 9 and score record breaking goals & assists. Messi will cover the right and middle part of the pitch like a Boss.🐐✨

Search up Francisco Conceição from Porto if you don't know him. Still very young with a lot to prove but has been getting called Olival's (Porto's academy) Messi since his u-17 team days. It's obvious to see why after you watch him play, the resemblance in physique and play style is uncanny.

6:17 Amir Sayoud is Algerian he just was transfered to top egyptian club Al Ahly in cairo when he was young, which is where he got his nickname probably, he still brought the FIFA 2021 arab cup to us by scoring in the final with the algerian second team, he also shot the worst/most hilarious penalty in history (you can look it up it topped every list of funniest/worst penalities on youtube) ... Djabou scored two goals for Algeria in 2014 world cup with one of them against Germany in that 2-1 second round defeat in the 123th minute (latest goal in world cup history)
