I just deposited £160 of them at my local building society. I bought them on eBay in a bulk lot. They were filthy, and I had to clean them in vinegar. I sifted through them, removed some collectibles, and banked the rest. The manager of my branch was the one who served me, which led to an interesting discussion.

I have only around half of the old round pounds I like that the ones that were sent back to the RM go on to make the new 12 sided pounds Great stuff Christopher & BCC 👍🏻

I miss the round pound. Being born in 1979, I hardly remember the £1 note, so the round pound was a big part of my pocket money when young. My favourite design was the Cardiff City coin, and I have one of every circulated design, and I even got the last round pound in change too. I also have a big collection of territory round pounds, and an unstruck one, which is very rare

I remember tiny, blue Bank of Scotland pound notes from the 1980s, a few years after the Round Pound debuted. At the time, some typical stick-in-the-mud MPs denounced the innovative coins as "horrid brass buttons." Of course, the same dudes were probably still complaining about the demise of "real money," meaning shillings and ye olde pence. ;)

I visited the UK a couple of times and have some old round pound coins. My main impression of them though was, that the alloy used in their production was too soft for the mass of a coin. Most of those coins that passed through my hands looked not like decent worn money, but more like some beaten pieces of soap. I hope that the new coins you have now are made of better material and wear with dignity. And, no matter what, the only truly proper round pond coin will always be the sovereign :)

My girlfriends nana gave me about 5 or 6 old round pounds I've kept them in a 📦 with the rest of my collection and I didn't know you can take them back to the bank I won't be doing that though I've learnt afew new things from this video great content C.C 👌

I would say the Japanese 500 Yen coin is more secure from counterfeiting that this 1 Pound. Still they are both nice designs.

Believe it or not, I still find customers occasionally trying to pay for their purchases with the odd round pound. I politely refuse them, but until this video, I haven't known what to tell the customer by way of getting rid of them; now I can advise them to take them to a bank (Post Office? in view of the dwindling number of bank branches on the High Street) for a face-value exchange.

I have 3 1983 €1 coins plus 3 more of later years. Couple of coins have reverse printing on the circular surface. Can these coin be sold ? Are they of Gold ? I am from India

Sounds like the old Round Pounds met a worthier fate than the failed US attempts at a cupronickel clad dollar coin. The original Eisenhower dollars in the 1970s were huge, clunky discs the size of the original silver dollars, 1.5" diameter (~ UK crowns). The smaller Susan B Anthony dollars (barely distinguishable from the quarter dollar) didn't even last a year, though they were issued from 1979 to 1981, and a farewell in 1999. None of these dud coins saw much circulation. So what happened to them? The mint couldn't just melt them down, since they were "sandwiches" of Cu-Ni alloy around a core of pure copper. The solution was: sell them to casinos for use in slot machines. I kid you not.

i got an amazing find in my charity shop today, an extremely rare anime dvd, there are none on ebay, none on amazon, none to be found anywhere. not only is it very hard to find, it is still new sealed. i have no idea what it's worth.
